Looking at our squad starting to take shape I have noticed that one thing that has not changed from Danny Lennon taking over is that we only have one natural attacking wide player in Steven Robb and he is injury prone.

What a breath of fresh air Graham Carey was when he was pushed forward to left midfield last season someone who would commit fullbacks to challenge him and try to get to the bye line to provide service into the box from out wide. Three players I was hoping for when Danny Lennon came in (because Gus was never able to get players for these positions) was a left back, left midfielder & right midfielder that were their natural positions. We have finally got someone in for left back so that is a relief.

I would never judge any signing the new manager has made until they have been given a decent run in the team but please give us a right midfielder who will run at fullbacks and provide a chance of decent service into the box for our strikers. It has been so long since we had someone in that mould.

Now we have the spine of the team sorted I just hope Danny fills these postions.

Van Zanten can play on the right.

Hopefully Van Zanten and Barron will combine well down the RHS for us.

Thats my thoughts too :D Van Zanten IMO is a lot better going forward as an attacker rather than defending :)

F**k ...... Can you imagine the abuse and desolation on this site if we take a player from Bo'ness!!!!!!! Even if he is brilliant

We are actually ok for right side at the moment, altho' any new players are welcome, i would rather see a left sided player come in.

We always lacked width in the past few seasons and played as a narrow side. Getting in a Carey type player again would be great, but I'm guessing for that quality it'd have to be a youngster on loan.

I actually think we are well served with wide players for next season, Van Zantan and Barron can both play wide right, Travener and Robb can both play wide left, I also thing McQuade can play wide, also we are looking at Glass who can play wide left, I,m also quite pleased that we have a few left sided players about the squad.Actually looking forward to the new season.

Had hoped what you have mentioned might have been the case that we would maybe bring in an up and coming youngster like Carey maybe from one of the English clubs that have been mentioned over the past few weeks but that seems to be a bit less likely as DL seems to be quite impressed by Glass if the comments in various papers are to be believed.

Wide players are so last decade.

We need to get the ball booted down the middle. The strikers can chase after the ball down the channels. We need "wide" players who can cut inside. Going down the touchline and trying to get to the bye line is a complete waste of time. The goal isn't out wide - its in the middle!

Back in the 'old days' guys like Messi, Ronaldo & Robben would have been regardded as classic wingers - in todays modern game they cut inside and go for goal.... that's the way to do it. :)

The problem with David Barron playing wide is that he can't cross the ball. He'd be better deployed in the centre of defence or midfield.

Certainly from LB but I reckon he could put in a decent cross from RB.

Nah, his crossing is useless from right back as well.

He's a cracking defender and has a great engine but if the full backs are expected to attack then I don't think he is the man. I'd have in central defence or central midfield.

Have to agree.

If Barron could put in a consistently good quality of cross he would be a great attacking asset to have.

He is capable of getting into good crossing positions.

Needs to work on his crossing and passing, to a lesser extent.

Still a great player to have in our team.
