Just looking at the league table tonight. Has been on the cards for awhile, but we have now dropped 5 points off of 6th place with United having a far superior goal difference as well. At the start of the season, I really did think we'd be in with a good shout of being there or thereabouts, but it's slipping away from us now. Would be really disappointing if we're out of contention come the split.
We must start scoring goals at the weekend or we'll be battling for 8th and 9th place rather than 6th.

Not surprisingly that gap is now 5 points. I hate to be negative, but when you take into account that gap and our current form, there is virtually no chance we will finish in the top 6.

One of our problems is people accepting the results and performances in 2012... unlucky against Killie but it was a good game so let's not get too down about throwing away our lead and losing at the last minute, let's not worry too much about drawing with Dundee United at home after having had the lead twice... they are a good team, as are Motherwell (another home draw), Tynecastle is always hard to get points at so losing 5-2 against 10 men there with Rudi getting 3 wonder goals was hard luck... the worry is we'll settle for a point against Dunfermline and Hibs when we come up against them soon as they will be tough games with the opposition fighting for survival.
We've been too quick to settle for being consoled by talk of our brand of football and taken our eye off results and the need to regularly bag 3 points to make top 6 this year.
I still think if we get a few wins soon we could finish a place or two higher than we are now but don't think we have the firepower to win the cup as we seem incapable of winning games within 90 minutes at the minute.

Are we really going to finish above Dundee Utd, Hearts, St Johnstone or Killie? I think not

...Exactly proves your point. I agree wholeheartedly with you DOP! This season the football has been good, it has been nice to not worry about relegation, and it has been good seeing us getting players in that others have wanted. However the lack of ambition from some of our fans is extraordinary. Why should M*therwell be so much better than us? Or D*ndee Utd? Should we settle for Saintees finishing above us? "Oh, but getting beaten there in the last minute after passing the ball a lot is a good result..."
Pish!
This season has been good but there is always room for improvement, there is aways another "level" to aspire to and there is nothing wrong with wanting more. I'm not prepared to settle for second best to clubs who have no reason to be better than us. For me, that has been the most worrying thing this season. Danny has been a revelation and brought a breath of fresh air to the club and I hope his tenure lasts a long time. However, I'll continue to think we could be doing better and reaching higher and achieving more, until we are knocking on the doors of the OF.
So, as always, onwards and upwards!!! COYS

All 4 second half goals came after Killie were reduced to 10 men and had conceded a penalty.
We were the better team the first and second times we played United this season but couldn't fashion a win from either of those games. Our two best chances last Saturday was when Teale and Hasselbaink DIDN'T connect with good crosses.

It doesn't seem so long ago that St Mirren were being lauded by the nations sports journalists as a breath of fresh air and a good thing for a top 6 finish. With the exception of a few attention-seekers on the B&WArmy forum, even the most sceptical amongst us had a good feeling about the season ahead. How should we view our progress to the Promised Land so far ? Well we are likely to avoid our traditional annual relegation dogfight this year but obviously that has more to do with how dire Dunfermline and Hibs have been rather than any progress our own team have made. And both of these useless teams have scored more often in the league than St Mirren. The adventurous style of play shown in August & September has been transformed back into the same old dire stuff where not conceding is more important than scoring goals and entertaining the paying public. Fear of losing is paramount. Risk-aversion has once again returned as our primary tactic. Draws are once again being regarded as great results by many of this forum's users despite the fact that every drawn match is another two points dropped and that's the reason we will be playing our final five matches of the season against bottom-feeders when we really ought to be testing ourselves against the best teams in the SPL. It's now mid-February and apart from the Scottish Cup our season is already as good as over.
Not the roller coaster ride we signed up for last summer, eh ?

Weve definitely had a good season overall but the last 2 months have been awful. Its possible for us to go on a good run though. No team is running away with the top 6. Were due a good bit of form. If we get it we could get top 6...hopefully!
