Progress Officially Made

Recommended Posts

There is no next level for a team like Saints other than SPL survival - there might be the odd good season but that's it.

Funny to see that a number of people who liked the original post are now foaming-at-the-mouth-Lennon-must-goers these days - nothing unpredictable about that! holiday.gif

If you do the business you earn the praise , if things turn sour within 15 months then that's fitba , as it has been since the year dot !

Why is there no next level. If there is progress for st. Johnstone, caley, county etc then there had better be for us too. Otherwise why do we turn up. Bud the baker that post is ridiculous and lacking in ambition.

I have to agree with norrie here. Its ludicrous to think that all we can achieve is survival in the top league.

Yes the first division is another kettle of fish, but did anyone seriously see it coming in 05/06 when we last came up and went on a consistent run to win promotion? You could even say the same under hendrie when we came up in the millennium year.

All you need is confidence, belief and leadership to get you moving in the right direction. Unfortunately we are going through a horrendous bad run, though every bad run comes to an end.

What I find funny is that all of the following stats had also been achieved by the previous manager up until the point he left:

Highest SPL finish.....check

Highest Points total.....check

Most goals scored in an SPL season......check

Least SPL Defeats.....check

Most SPL clean sheets.....check

and yet many of the folk on this thread congratulating Danny Lennon for achieving it also slagged off the previous manager despite achieveing it...

All this thread does is show up the hypocrites... they know who they are!

Pahahaha, is this serious?

So Saints have progressed to where exactly?

You've progressed from predicting Doug Imrie being a "big" player for Saints to wanting Danny Lennon out the door. cool.png

We might have the odd good season (as may St. Johnstone, Caley, County etc) but, providing we live within our means, we should never be a regular Top Six finisher, although Rangers present sojurn in the outer reaches provides an increased opportunity on a temporary basis. If Hearts were to go out of business or be seriously handicapped that would similarly increase our chances of doing reaching the Top Six.

Since league football started in Scotland we are the 9th most successful club, if you factor in Dundee Utd. not reaching the top flight until the 1960's (or so) it really should be 10th - anyone expecting much better on a regular basis is only storing up heartache for themselves and disillusion with the incumbent management team.

Pretty much everyone.

We were the favourites for promotion that season. The thread on here about the deadline day signings of Sutton and Adam (it was dredged up a couple of months back) shows that we as supporters expected promotion that year almost to a man. The club itself even advertised it's season tickets that season along the lines of 'join the push to the next level'.

1999/00 was a bolt from the blue, but we were undoubtedly favourites in 2005/06.

We were joint favourites with Arbroath I think to go down in 99/00 which made even more enjoyable.
