Mid Calder Saint
As we have a much restricted budget apparently I would like to see us target the junior ranks.Scott aged 22 is a box to box midfielder with top junior side Bo'ness. He has been described by his manager as the best player in the juniors and is currently being monitored by a few Senior teams.Would be worth a look at when you consider the boy McKinnon who plays for Hamilton was signed from Clydebank Juniors last season. Griff
Always like to see us take a chance , and it would probably make sense for us to have a couple of part time players so we could get a couple of decent players from the lower leagues and also maybe offer players coming from the juniors p/t contracts to start off with. Not suggesting we go part time , but if budgets are tight and our squad getting smaller , it make sense to have a group of part time players. lovestreet
Junior football is no better than amateur Sunday league or a half hearted pub team. Definitely not.
Mid Calder Saint
What a rubbish statement.Thistle got Doolan from Auchenleck and Erskine at Dundee Utd is ex Kilbirnie and McKinnon at Hamilton was signed from Bankies. insaintee
played fives with some juniors a few years back. They were barely better than a 50 year old ex superstar, Maybe I could get a game.

Problem is he's another midfield player A department we don't suffer from If he was a forward rattling in goals or a promising centre half fair enough Get them in to have a look

another alias
In order to pick up players like this we would need a proper scouting system. The only scouting that Longwell does is to sniff around the rejects from Murray Park & Lennoxtown.
insaintee
Nup. It's more credible that YOU have the £1.5m.... I've got £1.5m AND I'm a fifty year old ex superstar!!!!! ETA In saying that there are good players in the Juniors but not all players in the Juniors are good. These boys were fit and strong and quick (again compared to a fifty year old). but I cant say they had anything more than that. In the small park savvy counted more muscle. TopCat
Top Junior side Bo'ness indeed, they are one of the top junior sides. They played Arbroath in the Scottish Cup this season. Final score: Bo'ness 0-5 Arbroath That's the kind of level we're talking about here.
Doakes
In fairness, they also beat Elgin 5-4... A few junior players who could easily play at a higher level. Graham Boyd at Kilbirnie Ladeside is lethal. Only have to look at the likes of Doolan and Erskine to see that there's a few gems in lower leagues if you can seek them out. Oh I don't doubt that you find diamonds in even the roughest rough. Darren McGregor was one for us, and the ones you mention have been relatively successful without pulling up any trees. They did come to the top flight via the lower leagues though. Has there been any junior players who've went from Junior to the top flight and been a success this century? Can't think of any off hand myself.

Vambo57
I know I'm getting on a bit,b but i'm sure we signed Ally McLeod from Renfrew and Frank McAvennie from Johnstone Burgh later than the 1920's?
