International Call Up

International Call Up (10/14)

  1. Of course they are like all clubs are fannying about the latest fads because people who want to make money from them sell the gullible they can't do without them. Fans are pulling their hair out watching their back 4 hoofers attempt to be peak Barca/Man City playing out from the back and this fad is costing them 8 or 9 absolutely preventable goals that would never have been conceded just a few years ago losing possession cheaply in their own 18 yard box with no back up. Saints bollocksed their entire Cup Semi Final plan doing it within a minute's play. As I've said I have moved with the times using Ai and data modelling but with great caution. It's great at what's it's good for. Using it to identify players and most certainly not managers on such limited data. Rangers talk about the same player trading models and they've bought some absolute guff, Liverpool the same identifying £400M of players to bring in and the majority have been a horrible fit.
  2. What's the other side? Was Allan Campbell one of Scotland's top midfielders? What "metrics" would you say for you McLeish would clearly top any other managerial candidate in the global process?
  3. Have nothing against data being used sensibly by the way, I use data and Ai carefully to assist my day to day work. Monitoring players hearts rates. recoveries, condition during games, pinpointing good times to replace before performance drops or risking injury and even looking for opponent weaknesses all sound usage. But to tell us they've picked a manager based on data-driven recruitment process is a patronising load of shite!
  4. This is the kind of utter garbage chancer agents post. Cherry picking "metrics" to tell fans who have watched poor performances most weeks that they are watching wrong and that the likes of Allan Campbell was in fact among the 3 best midfielders in the SPL last season. We have people playing at Football Manager and ignoring what is in front of their own eyes! Many centre halves have fantastic passing and completion rates because they are simply shifting the ball sideways and backwards. What data-driven recruitment process finds McLeish the outstanding candidate? Did it just filter out not scoring a single goal in the 3 most critical SPL games after the split, the 4 goals in 6 minutes in a cup tie and scraping a 2-1 win against Championship opposition. "Data-driven recruitment process." FFS!
  5. Indeed! Bizarrely one of those much worse players will likely line up against Scotland at a World Cup despite being shite for us 7 years ago!
  6. Depends on the quality of squad we see delivered for the next season really. Won't be happy if we see a mini Celtic affair where despite bringing in Champions League cash and selling on players they try to hobble through with cheap replacements of much lesser quality. Clubs like ours can't budget for cup runs, with always the prospect of an early exit, so our League Cup run TV/gates/winners prize must be a huge bonus. We then went as far as televised Scottish Cup semi-final. We had a manager's compensation clause triggered by Aberdeen & muddled through with the youth team coach. Unless things are being poorly run we should be in a very strong position financially with 3 excellent unbudgeted for cash injections, so added to increases to season tickets I'd be expecting a much stronger squad than last season's (constantly the smallest bar Dundee whenever I looked and almost cost us our top flight status when injuries mounted).
  7. Fully expect this to be overturned and this afternoon most likely. Two reasons. 1. It was a ridiculous decision and just plain wrong. There was no challenge Young was simply mid stride taking the ball across Halliday. No problem with the tackle, defender made a good sliding tackle but in doing so puts his foot right under the stride of Young who has no time to react and put his foot down where is was always going in stride. 2. Probably most important. Officials don't give a shit about St Mirren (we've seen 4 or 5 serious result affecting errors against already this year) we moan but we don't affect the comfort of their daily lives ...BUT Rangers and Celtic do and both sets of idiots with be seething and frothing if the league leaders Hearts, that they both think they can catch, get to play a weakened Saints team on Tuesday night with a wrongly suspended player because of their mistake.
  8. Always bring little bit of my old Dad, in the form of his last season ticket card, to games when I travel up. Gave a it wee kiss and said that makes up for the tears we shed losing to the other arse cheek in 2010. 🙂
  9. To think our good old Scottish media insisted we just had to sell him to Celtic for ~£300k and now all these years later he's still being horse traded for half a million in what the call General Allocation Money. Same journos that expected Hibs to roll over and accept £2M for John McGinn because those kind of fees are reserved for Celtic or Rangers players or immense foreign talent like Tore Andre Flo.
  10. Sadly human nature being as it is this was always going to happen with a ridiculous 20 ticket allocation. Thousands of Celtic fans know their chances are limited in their own draw so will pay over the odds for ours and there will be some sadly in hard times only too happy to oblige for £10 on top x20 ~£200 profit.
  11. I don't sadly have that. It was always my Dad who went every week that I would go with for 47 years. Suddenly I'm just an outcast 🤣 It feels kind of rough that I'm behind season ticket holders friends who fancy a we day out when I think of the effort I've made to make games.
  12. How many of them could prove from purchase history that they'd been to St Mirren games over the past few seasons. Those with purchase history proof could have been included in this sale meaning those who make extreme efforts to make games from distance but can only do so 5 or 6 times a season could have been accomodated.
  13. Many of those who need to travel from distance and need to stay over have been shut out of the ticket sale until the 20th If you live far enough away to need hotel you more than likely don't have a season ticket even if you make 8-10 games a season
  14. Love seeing some properly considered footage with measurements. (nicked from @callmebaygirl on twitter) I'd whizzed this over in my mind Saturday night wondering how thick the pitch lines were and how many (figured had to be 2 or 3 line widths) the ball would have to be in front before it wouldn't have overlapped the penalty box line and been legally "inside" especially as you see virtually every player sit the ball over the corner quadrant by about a centimetre these days. As others have said maybe just boot it but it's so unlikely that the ball wasn't technically in the box that Shamal has been proper shafted here. Lets face it, technically it's in the box and he got it right and Beaton & mate got it wrong.
  15. I went South simply because I superstitiously wanted to stay where I was last time we visited for the Hearts final. 😁
