As well as having a great Refereeing performance.......... Willie Collum .... ‎Roddy Mcmillan‎ to St Mirren FC Fans 4 hrs · WILLIE COLLUM TODAYS REFEREE .. I just thought I’d tell you what Willie did today with the four Saints mascots. As you probably know I look after our match day mascots , a job I have loved doing now for over 30 years. Most referees say hello to the boys and girls who are mascots and leading out the teams. Today Willie said to me ‘bring them in to the dressing room’. When the four boys walked in Willie and the assistant refs said hello to them and them Willie brought out a bag and said to the boys , ‘ this is from the European games I have refereed , chose something ‘. The boys were delighted and each got a momento of the day to keep . Willie often does that with the mascots. Just thought I’d let you know how kind a man he is . By the way , I thought he had a good game today !

Samson has been first class this season. Given all the junk that was talked about him when he signed I think he's proven all the doubters wrong. We have no goalkeeping issue at St Mirren

Sorry we have had some issues tonight and also on Tuesday this week. P&B and B&W Army are on the same server hence why both were affected. I might change that going forward. Sorry for the shit service, I’ll try and do better!

I know part of Davis's reasons for signing for us was to put himself in the shop window for bigger clubs up here, or daan saaf. I think the club should be making him an offer he cant refuse, as well as giving Baird at least a two year deal. I would extend McKennzie's too. Improve McGinn's, extend Stelios's, get Liam Smith signed up as well. there will be a raft of premiership clubs looking to snap up Davis, and the others above. The board need to get them tied up now, that is even more important than who they need to bring in. Happy to see all the Morgan Money spent on securing our best players.

Ross will be training full time with us the same as the lad who went to East Fife Jack has said he likes the young players out on loan to feel they are still a part of Saints. Just shows how good Jack Ross management is he is a top man.

Gotta add Reilly to the priority list. Not had a striker as prolific since the days of Dougie Somner. Best since then has been 20 in all competition. Gavin already on that. Next target the 35 Somner got in 79-80. Half way through the season. Over half way yo the target.....it's do-able

I think we'll be really up for this one for 2 reasons....They beat us at St Mirren Park so we'll want payback for that and we'll have had a full week in between games so the energy levels shouldn't drop like they did against Morton.

Magennis can do that role perfectly as shown in last 15 minutes yesterday. He's box to box has a great tackle in him and is a far better prospect that Jim Goodwin or Hugh Murray ever were.

You'd think it was enough for some to admit they got it wrong, although I think they already have in a way that makes them think they're saving face. We should be concentrating in consolidating our already strong position in the table, rather than messing about with contracts. I want players minds to be focused solely on winning the title.

I don't think there are any glaring deficiencies in our team so it will be a case of if Jack can get a player just as good or better then we're on to a winner because his record in the transfer market has been very good.

By all accounts, like you suggest, we should have slaughtered them. A 1-0 scoreline is always a worry as it only takes one bit of luck, or decent play, and it's 1-1 but the important thing for me is we're playing really well overall. Someone will get a thumping soon IMO and it could be next week, although I might prefer if it's Aberdeen.

A 1-0 scoreline made the game look close but we were streets ahead of ICT. Totally outplayed them in the first half with some lovely football. But we have to change from the Arsenal style of football to the Man City style and stop trying to walk the ball into the net. Sammy saved our bacon in the second half with some fine saves but we created far more openings in their defence but simply refused to shoot. I think Liam Smith is a great attacking full-back but please Liam have a shot when you in the penalty box directly in front of goal. Great performances from everyone. Special mention to Stelios. I thought his days were numbered after the red card incident but he has been superb in defence and offers a great attacking option. The workrate of Cammy Smith is incredible but MoM for me was Captain McGinn. And Davis is without doubt the best defender in this League and would walk into most Premiership defences.

  23. 3 points
I thought Stelios had a wonderful first half and was very unlucky not to score but when Mulraney came on he struggled to cope with his pace. A fantastic squad player but a fit Ekersley starts in front of him. Some outstanding performaces today, and 5 or 6 players who could have been MoM. McGinn ran the show but Inverness let him get his head up and gave him time on the ball especially in the first half. That's asking for trouble as he has real quality. Magennis is now getting back to the form and fitness he showed during the great escape and would not have argued with anyone making him MoM. Jack Baird did not put a foot wrong and was certainly a MoM contender, Davies continues to improve with every match, and if there is a better right back in the division than Smith I have not seen him yet. Morgan, Smith and Reilly are perpetual motion and will give any defence problems. We are not 6 points clear at the top for nothing you know!! In another thread I questioned Dundee Uniteds bottle and with presure mounting on them I think this could become a factor. The majority of this team, and the management, handled enormous pressure during the great escape and although there will be bad days at the office between now and the end of the season I think in terms of guts, character and bottle we have a big advantage over United. COYS!!

Bloody excellent today. Fantastic win for us and great drubbing for Dundee Utd. McGinn just superb. Maddeningly he gave the ball away a few times but has become a true talisman, outstanding. Stellios, Samson, both Smiths, both CBs, us fans also very good. Well done all.

I don't think Eckersley should walk back into the team. Stelios has been very good indeed, and deserves to keep his place until Eckersley manages to shift him for whatever reason. I admit to having my doubts about Stelios' temperament after the daft red card he picked up, but he has been very solid and a threat going forward since coming back in. Indeed, his attitude has been spot on. Very unlucky not to score a scorcher today. Eckersley has been great recently, but shouldn't be the default in the position. Let's be honest, though, it's a good position to be in.
  26. 3 points
I thought everyone was tremendous today. Just a couple I'll single out - personally I'd have given Stelios the MoM today, thought that literally one or two passes aside he was outstanding. And Baird, who in my opinion has been our most improved player this season, he was very composed and in control at the back. The only gripes I'd have today are the decision making in the final third, which was suspect throughout, and the lull for 15 minutes at the start of the second half where we stopped closing down quickly and were too static. The majority of the game we were excellent.

McGinn man of the match today by a country mile.....an absolute masterclass from him. That's also saying something as Bairdy was terrific also and good performances from everyone else.

I said at the start of the season I wasn't sure about signing Gavin Reilly. I said I hoped he would prove me wrong. and I would like to admit publicly he has. 20 goal in all competitions is a great return. And his work rate is outstanding. Well done Gavin and let's see you get to 30 goals and fire us onto the Premier league.

Quite a few top performers today. We looked more like the free flowing team of last season. We played with a swagger for a lot of the game. Stelios was getting forward a lot more, Magennis looked back to full form, Liam smith was outstanding never gets flustered. Reilly always a major threat with his pace, Davis and Baird hardly put a foot wrong, McGinn in the first half was outstanding, the leader we need and clinical passing and Morgan is just a joy to watch. Dribbling, nutmegging, left foot, right foot. I sure will miss watching him playing at Greenhill road. Great day all round and that mob at tannidice may be starting to implode!

New Contracts for Davis & Baird... Now!

Why would players sign new deals when we are a championship club, paying championship wages? Think one major player is about to.
  32. 2 points
That clause worked last January when the likes of Davis weren't featuring at their clubs and they had an incentive to sign. Now they are in the driving seat. I reckon you just started this thread to be contrary. Whatever the club are or aren't doing, isn't right. If they announced new deals, like previously with Davis, you'd be seething.

Stelios is professional enough to know that the best way to repay for his error the last time is to play his best and if he gets a decent chance, score against them. Teams like Dumbarton will try to sit in against us and hit us on the break... we need to be set up to break their system...(I think that means we need to avoid being one dimensional and predictable). Walsh was given too much space last time... and our midfield were playing their normal modus operandi. So Dumbarton's system exposed our weaknesses.. now surely JR has enough experience and wisdom to have learned enough to have a plan for this time? Dumbarton are not a great team and yes on any day teams in this division could beat any other... but Brechin haven't managed it once and Dumbarton have only managed to do that 4 times - while we have done that 14 times.. Surely belief is readily available after seeing the Utd score on Saturday...and our 16/18 points recently.... Last 2 games we have started fairly well, but fell away - when we dip we need to mix it up with good subs... or score plenty early on and then sit and break up their efforts... We could be 9 or 7 points ahead after this one.........

Our last defeat was against this lot but since then we've got 16/18 points against 2/15 for them. If we play to the top end of our ability we will win, but then I said the same last month. Add to this our poor H2H record against them since we came down and there really is no room for complacency. As JR has said in recent match interviews it's about our belief in our ability and imposing our strategy on them. One worry is Stelios who is currently in good form but whose sending off cost us in the last H2H - screw the heid big man, and as ever - COYS!

I think it’s a great decision to send the boy out on loan. Regular first team future and goals to boost the boys confidence. Sutton will be away at the end of the season and Stewart will be given a chance next season. With the form that Reilly is in this and with our recent acquisition of Mullen the boy would have been kicking his heels on the bench.

I think we need to mix things up against this mob... I might even start with Sutton and punt balls in for the first 30 minutes or so... they wont expect that No easy games - come on .... if we start with that kind of attitude and add in "boggy team crap" we can concede the points before we even kick a ball. They have a load of our old "has beens" OK Their manager is decent and organises them well. They beat us.. that should be incentive for revenge....(we could be 9 points ahead of Utd if we have won that game) The stats don't lie - they are there for the taking if we play as we are able to.. Secret is to get ahead and they will struggle to sit in.. once we go 2 ahead the 3rd will come and then the fourth.... Dumbarton 0 v 4 St. Mirren goals from Smith, Magennis, Stelios and Mullen At least one an assist by McShane as usual...

Another good day at the office. Thought McGinn was the man. The McGinn spin was played to perfection today. He always takes the ball and spins around before charging off or laying on a pass. Thought he was MOM but great to see so many different opinions. The whole team were excellent. I met one of the players close relatives on the train home who said the players deserved extra credit because a flu bug had been doing the rounds and only 6 players took training on Thursday as a result. If true, that may explain the lethargic second halves in the past two games. If that's the case things can only get better when the whole team gets back to their peak. From my seat I had a perfect view of the postage stamp and if that Stellios shot had went in that would have been Goal of the season. What an effort. Well that's my spin on it. See you next week at Dumbarton

i agree 100% on McShane but Magennis changed that completely when he moved to midfield. We got right back on top of Inverness and pushed them back for last 15. They had the odd break but overall we dominated last 15. McShane is the weaklink in midfield. Decent player but if we are to win the league he needs to be on the bench

Fanzines were great at that time. The Final Hurdle was an excellent Dundee Utd fanzine with great wit and superb contributions from people who went on to great things in . . Journalism. Sort of. Not really sure that (fanzine) kind of imagination and humour is replicated anywhere these days. We can see journalists today trying to replicate it but largely failing due to their constraints. In saying that... The fanzine inspired On The Ball - on the BBC wi Tam and Stuart does a good job with their attitude, language and humour on Radio Scotland. Great job in fact. What is lacking is something tangible that people can look at months later or years later and laugh or cringe at. Fanzines mark a period in time that take us to the styles, fashions and attitudes of that era. Which can be embarrassing. Anyway. . . isn't Lewis Morgan just excellent to watch. Much better than Paul Kinnaird. Blah blah......

Baird and Samson were our best 2 players today. 1st half we were certainly the best team and should have had a bigger lead. 2nd half I thought we really rode our luck a few times and were lucky not to lose a goal. Only minor complaint is our players wanting to play an extra pass when in the penalty box instead of having a shot on goal. All in all a good day for the club

Really? Won a grand total of 4 games all season, lost 8 and conceded 26, aye, 26 goals 19 games. They've won 2 games at home this season, scoring a massive 7 goals in 10 games. If we struggle against a team that's 3rd bottom then there's something wrong. Thank feck the manager doesn't have this sort of defeatist attitude or we'd be fcuked.

I thought we had played quite well in the Falkirk defeat despite losing maybe comparing it to the earlier terrible performances made it look better than it actually was. It's the best run of home form that I can remember but I sometimes walk to the kitchen and forgot why I went in there.

Big Bairdy was terrific today, well done Jack. We also played much better when McShane went off, looked more dangerous going forward. Don’t know if that’s down to the game opening up with ICT throwing more forward or not but definitely raises the question do we need both McGinn and McShane in the starting 11. Sammy did well today, no outstanding saves of note but did everything right and great to get the clean sheet. Cammy Smith continues to put in tremendous shifts week after week. All in all a great day going 6 points clear.
