  1. Nick Montgomery was favourite yesterday and Neil Lennon the day before. Hopefully Robbo is just today's favourite.
  2. Think you’ll find the season started today. The fact the league cup starts in July doesn’t mean it’s less important than if it started in September. There are only two trophies we can hope to challenge for and we’ve potentially blown our chances in one on the first day of the season.
  3. If the priority is making money we could give them all 4 stands...
  4. We might have had lots of shoots on goal but part of a good performance is the quality of finishing. Incidentally Jak saw it differently from you too https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/19759584.jak-alnwick-pulls-no-punches-bleak-assessment-st-mirren-situation-amid-dire-run/ As for not having to beat these teams to make top 6, we didn’t win the recent games against them and we’re not top 6. Of course there aren’t teams we have a divine right to beat but if you don’t beat the teams around or below you in the league top 6 isn’t going to be possible. The 1 point we took off the top three would leave us struggling. I fully recognise that under Robinson the performances, other than 45 minutes, against United have been dreadful but I don’t think we were world beaters under Jim. The difference is under Jim we were able to grind out results which we don’t look capable of at present
  5. I would imagine they’ve beat several teams this season. My point is the teams were not in the top 6 when we played them
  6. Some of the teams in the top 6 are only there because they beat us.
  7. Motherwell and Ross County are teams we need to beat at home to make top 6. We were crap against Motherwell. Not that they were much better but we were very lucky to be winning and their equaliser was well deserved even if it did need a gift from us. As for the Ross County game Alnwick opening criticised the team for how bad we were. We only got a draw in that game because of the saves Jak pulled off. FWIW I think if Jim had stayed we wouldn’t have been great but we would have got a result from somewhere and scraped top 6.
  8. My thoughts exactly and yet there’s been a massive drop off in results and he very quickly and very publicly pointed the finger at certain unnamed players. In Robinson’s defence some of the performances before Goodwin left were pretty poor. Motherwell and Ross County could easily have pumped us at home.
  9. You have to wonder what conversation Robinson had with the board about the current squad and his expectations for the rest of this season before he got the job. Given our position at that point I find it hard to believe he would have said they weren’t good enough and he’d have to overhaul the squad. Obviously I want Robinson to succeed as it means Saints are succeeding and part of me feels he should be given time to build his own team but another part of me is very sceptical about his ability to put together a decent team.
  10. All the chat about the trophies Brown (or any other candidate) have won is to an extent irrelevant. For every Mourinho or Wenger who did nothing as a player and were successful managers there’s a Neville brother who won everything going but were hopeless managers. Likewise experience only counts so far. There are some rookies who excel such as Dalglish but probably far more that flounder like Gary Teale. I say probably because a lot of these guys never manage again and are forgotten about. Appointing a manager is a roll of the dice and all we can do is narrow candidates down by what we think are important criteria then hope for the best. I believe their personal qualities and fit with the job are more important than trophies. Personally I don’t want Brown as he’s mine and many other people’s most hated figure in Scottish football for the last 15 years. Some feel that his aggression, not taking any shit and generally willingness to get it up people are positive qualities. Maybe for a midfield hard man but not for a manager. There’s been plenty of times I think his conduct hasn’t been befitting of a club captain never mind manager. Maybe he’s matured but his reaction to getting Kent sent of recently did nothing to make me think so. Incidentally if John Terry get linked with the job you replace Brown’s name with his for most of the posts in this thread.
  11. You’re right that no team wins every trophy they enter but Celtic’s circumstances were probably unique during this period. They play in a country where there are two teams miles ahead of the others and had the luxury of their rival ending up in the lower leagues leaving no real opposition. Maybe winning every trophy was unfeasible as there’s always the chance of a shock over 90 minutes but they weren’t getting knocked out by strong Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs or Dundee United sides. They were losing to the likes of us, Ross County, Killie and Morton.
  12. Agreed. Celtic should have won the treble every year Rangers were in the grubber but were regularly beaten by lesser teams. Not saying that was all Brown’s fault but if he’s going to be praised for winning the league then criticising him for their failure in cups and Europe is fair.
  13. Gerrard won one trophy in three years and that was only because a Celtic team, captained by Brown, imploded.
  14. As opposed to a player that loves losing and hate winning? Part of the Aberdeen coaching staff this season. How’s that gone so far?
  15. Is there a Ryan Flynn thread running where I can post my thoughts on Matt Millar?
  16. Maybe Oran will question GS's lack of commitment for being out the country.
  17. Smart piece of business by Ross County signing Jim Fenlon on a free from Ross County. If that had been us we'd have paid a transfer fee
  18. Only a matter of time before Tony says we can win the Copa America
  19. Shows there's an incentive to finishing top of the bottom six though it does seem harsh on the team finishing sixth
  20. Incredible that some people can be negative on a day like today
  21. The treble treble is a great achievement but the media seem to be neglecting that many countries only have one cup competition. There's a fair chance Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan and Juve would have won trebles if it were possible. As for the treble treble PSG must be in a strong position to achieve this going forward.
  22. All you need to do to buy tickets online is create an account. I had to set up a new one when I couldn't get into my old account and the forgot my password link didn't work.
  23. Was disappointed at the appointment of Stubbs and he's done nothing to change my view of him. Don't see him going anywhere though til at least after the Hamilton game.
