I couldn't get a team of 3 together so contacted Eric at the e-mail address provided to say I was looking to join up with other people who may be in the same situation.

Anyone reading this who wants to make up a team of three, post away!

I play off a handicap of 12. If two people fancy joining up with me, I'll contact Eric again right away.

Poz/Black and Red - we have individuals we can hook you up with. If you drop Eric your details to the email above he'll sort you both out.

I e-mailed Eric to ask if he had any individual he could add on to myself and Robert - but if you have a few people as individuals, I'll leave it with Eric to form teams of three from the names he has. Thanks for the info - looking forward to it.

'Black and red' / Robert...

Given the info in the post above, it would be better if you contact Eric Crossan by e-mail and give him your contact details if you want to play. Eric can create teams of three from all of us in the same boat.

I'll certainly e-mail him again to say that once in receipt of your e-mail, he might consider putting us together and finding us a third player.

On a slightly different note , wouldn,t be a good idea to set up a St Mirren golf society , and have the focus on Saints fans having a bit of golf and banter .

I spoke with 'Zurich Allan' from the forum about this when we played last month. I fancied doing something next Spring to get the ball rolling.

Organise an outing, teams of four, etc...

Glad that you young gowfer's are "hooking up" so to say.

I shall of course see you there as I am also donning the plus four's that day and taking to the fairway's for a day of play, socialising and banter with some fellow Buddie gowfer's. May I urge young Tam M above to cut out his fears of playing on a proper course aside and to attend and enjoy this unique day, a unique day indeed. I for one will not be looking to win anything but will "drink in" the atmosphere, "eat up" the competition and "rift" the banter.

It is also my intention to take full advantage of the bar facilities on offer at the 19th hole.

Anyway to any fellow Buddies who are still "thinking about it", stop your nonsense and get this booked...........the success of ventures such as this depend on your participation and without such participation such ventures will not ne repeated.

It is an event like this that sets our club apart as a real community club, now who is joining me at the bar?

Do you use mashie niblicks and Penfold Commando balls?

Sounds like a good event, what is the format. Just plain fourballs or a texas scramble?

Although cant say I'm the biggest fan of Paisley as a course, Renfrew is much better!

Yes it is a stableford.

Gowfer's always differ in opinion on what course is the best. Paisley happens to be my favourite and Renfrew my least!!! The noise from the scrapyard coupled with the aeroplanes that only seem about 30 foot above do nothing to enhance my enjoyment of the long straight and somewhat repetitive fairway's the Renfew has to offer.

That said we all differ as otherwise we would all be members of the same club.

Paisley is a fine choice of venue. Local team supporting local course and all.

Courses? All about opinions. I was a member at Lochwinnoch for 33 years, but could understand why people hated it. Built on the side of a mountain.

Local courses? Played Cochrane Castle many times - would be brilliant if you could pick it up and put it where Gleneagles is. Have played Kilbirnie a few times - hate it. Only played Beith yonks ago when it was nine holes, liked it back then. Played Old Ranfurly last month with Zurich Allan. Was in lovely condition and is a tough test. I have played Paisley once, donkeys years ago, can't remember a thing about it. I also haven't played Renfrew for years - can only remember tree lined fairways and a Par 3 with water in front of the green. I've never played Elderslie, Ralston, Ranfurly Castle or Gleddoch. Erskine was a nice course, again, only played it years ago.

The best course I've ever played was Kingsbarns near St Andrews. I have played Turnberry, The Old Course, and the PGA Centenary at Gleneagles many times. The PGA Centenary at Gleneagles is a tough old place to carry your clubs round and walk the course. I have never been so knackered after a round of golf as playing there.

My mate is a member at Deer Park in Livingston - it's a cracking course. East Kilbride is a really nice layout. Another favourite of mine is Buchanan Castle in Drymen.

Like most Renfrewshire golfers, I've went down in the colder months to play the Troon courses - Darnley, Lochgreen and Fullarton, they are excellent. I really haven't played that many other courses in Scotland. East Ren', Ratho Park, Millport, Mearns Castle, Dullatur, Cawder, Hayston, Hilton Park, and some teenage stuff at Barshaw and a public course in Kilmarnock who's name escapes me.

Kingsbarns was the dug's danglies though.

Have had partners confirmed for the big day and am now in full training!

Weighed in at The Gleniffer Hotel on Friday night so drink will be taken after the golf!

PS

Brian, Annanhill may be the Kilmarnock public course you were thinking of. Have not been there in twenty years but was a cracking track back then.

My training has started in earnest. Playing a doubles tie tonight, played 9 holes at Mearns Castle last night, and 18 at Slaley Hall at the weekend.

I'm playing like Woods. Unfortunately it's Harry Woods, a 78 year old fae' Lochwinnoch Golf Club. thumbup2.gif
