Q & A With The Manager

Recommended Posts

Ian:

"Unhappy that team for Berwick was released 24 hours before the game. As a result, training ground will be closed on Friday."

"Will be careful about social media. If a player posts a photo on Twitter of himself with a bandaged leg then that's an advantage to the opposition."

New players - "Looking for 3 or 4. Will be negotiating up to maybe Friday morning. Very surprised if any in before Rangers game as agents scrambling about trying to drum up interest. Hoping for 2 in before Dumbarton game."

"Working on similar to finances to QotS and Raith, but our facilities give us a huge advantage. That's really important for players thinking about signing. New stadium and training ground can get us over the line when trying to get guys in."

Ian:

"Difference between wages in Scotland and England is astronomical. Difficult to keep players up here."

"Inevitable we're going to get bids in for players. Will be really difficult to keep Stevie M and Jason N beyond this season. They will excel in the Championship"

How the f**k can we have the same budget as Qos and raith if we have been in the prem for 10 years, won a cup, got a parachute payment, had our debt cleared and have an average gate twice that of them!!?? It beggars belief!!!! Oh and sold £400k worth of talent!!!!!

Ian:

"Jack Baird's a great lad. He was born to win. Have to turn away from some of the challenges he puts in in training. Lot of room for improvement though. Will be nurtured the next couple of seasons."

"A lot of you are going to be surprised when you see how well Baird and Kelly do as a centre-half pairing. May take them a few weeks to acclimatise though."

"Jack and Sean have a really, really good chance in football. Want an experienced guy to go in there and help them, talk to them, etc. However, have to be careful. Don't want someone to stunt Jack and Sean's development."

Great work by div to stream it and Julian Banjos to type it up, much appreciated :)

Murray and Spalding certainly seem to talk a good game. Ultimately they'll obviously be judged on results, however saying the right things should buy them a bit more goodwill with the fans and media than Tommy Craig's nonsense last season.

Don't know who this was talking, apparently guy tasked with doing the scoreboard.:

"Scoreboard capable of showing highlights but costs too much money. Has been a learning curve in how to operate. No instructions came with it!. Got a few ideas for this season, may be put up clips from youtube / fan footage."

SG:

"JD sports has been a disaster, but extra £100K in cash. Can't not afford to take that. They say they've been let down by poor manufacturing. Surprised they couldn't sort out the neck problem in 10 days. Can only apologise on their behalf, but we need the money."

Excellent updates mate, thanks very much.

Main conclusions from that:

  • Murray really talks the talk. Articulate, confident, knows what he wants.
  • Spalding is, without question, a cutting edge 21st century football coach. Sounds absolutely obsessed with the game and its analysis, geekish almost.
  • Baird & Kelly are our first choice centre-halves. Manager seems to think Baird, in particular, is going to be a top player.

Well done and thanks Sir for updates.

Great updates Julian and Div. Despite not being able to make it along tonight I get a terrific feeling about their desire to make St Mirren FC the best it can possibly be.

I think we will make a real fist of the championship title this season. :-)

Onwards and upwards. :-)
