Jack Ross Must Go.

Nah, bad as Danny's first season was, it was still better than anything Gus served up and it was achieved with a declining budget.

Gus's team had its moments - Jack Ross winning a Scotland B cap after a great season with us, Dorman getting into the Welsh team, Stephen McGinn getting a crack at a central midfield role and winning his move to Watford after starring there. Higdon's hattrick against Accies saved us from the drop that season. It felt like Gus' team was breaking up and guys who were left from it like Potter, Brady and Shuggy were in decline and that Danny had underestimated the quality of signings required - at one point we had Shuggy, Thomson, Cregg and Goodwin all vying for holding midfield roles and we had the embarrassment of Jamie whathisface celebrating a Celtic goal going out on Sky TV just before our own game started. Aside from Tommy Craig's season at the helm DL's first season was, for me. the worst of those 9 years back in the SPL.

Most culpable? Oh aye - it'll be the lunatics who defend the manager, the CEO, the Chairman, the last Chairman, and SMiSA, when clearly none of them are remotely competent. Next on the list would be the many who are prepared to defend Stevie Mallan's inept performances whilst offering up the excuse that although he's a central midfielder playing in central midfield he's being played out of position. Then there's the list of delusional happy clappers who claim there is no problem at Paisley and that everything is perfect - and who defend the utter flop that Ralston has been since that was set up.

Is it actually possible to have more failure in around 100 words?

I'll let Top Cat answer for himself, but I don't think he has anything personal against Jack Ross. He didn't agree with the appointment when it was made. Results got even worse for JR's 2 months and then got back to Alex Rae's level by the January window. Top Cat wasn't the only one moaning, and for all we had an amazing run of results from February to May Top Cat wasn't the only person saying he thought Jack Ross should be fired if we got relegated.

I don't agree with Top Cat continuing to post JR must go at frequent intervals but always thought we had a good enough squad assembled by Rae and Ross that we should have been at least 10 points clear of the relegation place and play off place and Jack Ross was in charge for over 3 quarters of the season and had to expect some criticism as well as taking the plaudits when we did pull off the great escape. I'd say its pretty clear that JR has been backed to the hilt by GLS and the board last season and over the summer and don't see too much point in doubters like Top Cat continuing to call for Ross's head. Not too bothered we are out the League Cup, and the Morton result was a shocker but otherwise we are off to a good start in the league (with almost as many points at the end of August as we had at Christmas last year), a decent amount of the summer signings are beginning to look like good acquisitions and those who haven't yet had a run could be useful squad players, Jack Ross turned down a move to Dundee and seems to have talked Morgan into staying on for this season as well, so I am pretty happy with where Jack Ross has us just now.

Ross inherited a team that was totally devoid of confidence. They were like rabbits caught in the headlights. It is hardly surprising that it took a while - and some radical surgery - to get things back on track.

When he got us going, it was like night and day from anything we've witnessed for some time.

Anyhow, we are very fortunate to have JR, and whatever TC's agenda is, he has made a rip-roaring c**t of himself with this thread, and deserves all the derision that he has been subjected to:)

To be fair, Stevie Mallan was doing nothing when this post was made.

Also, he's correct that many on this forum were declaring that Mallan was indeed being played in the wrong position and should have been playing the number 10 role.

As it turned out, Mallan's amazing second half of the season came in the central midfield position that many thought he shouldn't be playing.

Many on the forum were saying Mallan was being asked to play in a holding midfield role. His "amazing" second half of the season coincided with McGinn joining allowing Stevie the freedom to play his game. SD was totally wrong in what he said.

Whilst not a number 10, Mallan was moved into a playmaker role once McGinn came in.

It's not too dissimilar from the role McShane played in his first 3 or 4 games where he was almost literally tripping over McGinn compared to his last 3 or 4 where he occupies roughly the same area of the park but is asked to play a completely different role in the side and is not required to be spoiling opposition attacks so often.

Dickson was actually correct then that Mallan was poor in the first half of last season.

We were heading for relegation when he made that post.

He was asking for something to change and change it did.

The more I read his post, the more I realise he was correct.

Many in here would have continued happily clapping to League One.

Nobody said he was being played out of position. They said he was being asked to play a holding midfield role. He's an attacking central midfielder.

Morgan? Mallan? McGinn? McLean? McGennis? (To name a few)

So Dickson was correct here?

Aye RIGHT!

Thanks for bumping this thread to the top. Interesting to read through some of the initial comments emoji23.pngemoji23.pngemoji23.png

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but some of the comments are magnificently amusing, given the job that JR has done so far.

At least Dave the Buddie had the good grace to admit that he was wrong about JR quite recently.

At least several of the main critics who were so, so wrong have mercifully fucked off.:clapping

Must admit that I was wrong about Ross , he turned out even better than I thought , even better than Danny . It doesn't bear thinking about where we would be as a Club right now if Jack Ross had gone - probably languishing in some seaside league with all our good players gone and a bunch of journeymen like Hark*ns in their places. .
