Squad: Season 17-18

Recommended Posts

You forgot Josh Todd. I would take Langfield out, he will only be used as an emergency. A few year ago did you consider Mathers as part of first team or just a coach?

Good shout with Todd. Possibly the midfield is finished then.

To be honest I don't remember spending too much time thinking about Paul Mathers!!

Strongest starting XI assuming Sammy and Reilly deals get over the line?

Can take your pick of Buchanan or Baird to partner Gary MacK.

Very experienced defence anyway, just not got bags of pace about it.

Thoughts?

Got a feeling the St Mirren twitter/official website will reveal a double signing at the same time like they did (twice) 2 weeks ago.

Craig Samson says "deal will be signed tomorrow" so I expect his and Reilly deal both signed around same time and announced together.

Believe Reilly is on holiday now, but that's not to say it hasn't or can't be done.

I agree with the absence of pace in defence observation.

I'm also a wee bit concerned that neither of our full backs are especially attack minded. We will be relying on getting the ball forward from midfield with limited overlapping from the full backs. We know Morgan can pick the ball up run himself, though, as can Magennis. I wouldn't be surprised to see Magennis in the Mallan position, though, hence my earlier call for a right mid to be signed.

Kirkpatrick will be a bit of an unknown quantity in a key area if he is a first pick. That's not to say he won't do well.

According to my Dons supporting colleague, Smith is decent with a dead ball, so that is encouraging.

I hope our midfielders get some shooting practice as I don't know if that front pairing have many goals in them.

I thought about him at half time when he was warming up the Sub Goalie.

I couldn't sleep at night wondering why Mathers was wearing Goalie gloves as he constantly crossed the ball with his feet for the whole half time workout.

I've never been a fan of Samson's. Always seemed to give away goals into corners that other keepers would stop. He's had a bit of a nightmare season for Motherwell with Stevie Thomson repeatedly having to say "That's not like Sammy" on Sportscene. I would've preferred Billy O'brien between the sticks but hopefully Samson proves me wrong.

Goalies

Stewart
Langfield
Samson

Defenders

Irvine
Eckersley
Buchanan
MacKenzie
Baird
Stelios

Midfield

Quinn
Kirkpatrick
McGinn
Magennis
Morgan
Todd
Smith

Forwards

Stewart
Sutton
Reilly

A striker (Loy?) and centre half (Davis?) and that's out lot?

Also have the promoted youth players like Whyte and Flanagan

Have to say the squad is looking good for the 2nd week in June.

Has Flanagan been confirmed in signing his contract?
