Scottish football certainly is not big enough to accommodate colt teams. As mentioned, it would make a mockery of our game and if they proved to be better placed in the league at the end of the season than the remaining pack, it could end up opening up a promotion chance for league one teams sitting in the bottom half.
Whats wrong with continuing to loan players to other clubs? It happens all over the world and SPL clubs including the bigot brothers have various amounts of loanees, so what is the issue.

Malky Mackay, the well known Scottish Football Academy Champion, in the Herald again today - punting the Old Firm "Colts" concept. I'm very surprised that our Club hasn't come out strongly against this Rangers/Celtic two teams in the league idea. Irn Bru Cup now in its second season with Rangers and Celtic reserves in the draw. This is going to slither in if we are not careful.

It's a done deal sadly.  The narrative is set if the colts do well in the Irn Bru then they will have deserved their chance, do poorly then it will show the need for young players to be exposed to competitive football.  You would hope the clubs would show some backbone but they will be bought off as usual.

Surely it needs to be voted on by clubs? On P&B a lot of teams have came out against it. I had messaged smisa who had said they would do a vote if the club asked but guessing they haven't.

In saying that, It's an awful idea and I have full faith that St Mirren will vote against it. If they support it without consulting fans though that will be the end for me. Won't be giving them anymore money. This deal only benefits the OF and no one else. Spfl pandering to them is a disgrace. They should be seeing this isn't popular with other team fans and dropping the subject completely.

Hope you are right but I've got a bad feeling.

Apologies if it's mentioned somewhere in the rest of this thread, but what is the "perceived" benefit to all the other clubs of having OF colt teams in the league set up?

$$$ benefits from SPFL and SFA. In other words bribe the smaller teams to let them in and push Old Firm agenda. They can then use it to develop their own players and swallow up more decent young talent in Scotland. Old firm teams will then likely sell these players to league 1 England level clubs for a few £100k making money for themselves and the SPFL cut. Young players getting experience at league 1/2 level won't turn into Scotland leading stars. It's all about a wee bit extra money. SFA and spfl are disgraceful organisation that don't care at all about developing players. Only care about lining their pockets.

I'm amazed that anyone has to actually ask that question!

The Scottish Mainstream Sporting Media SMSM) such as the 'newspapers', STV and the BBC (even though it is banned from the Huns place) constantly drum the message that Scottish fitba not only IS Sevco and sometimes Celtic, but the sole point of the other seldom mentioned diddy teams is to ensure that the important teams (the two cheeks) can progress as seamlessly as possible to European fitba cos they need the money...

It's obvious surely? :o

Oh I'm well aware of what the benefits are to the old firm and the powers that be. That wasn't the question I asked. I asked how they are attempting to sell this sham to everyone else?

Hopefully all the Colts get a scudding like Celtic's did last season against Livy.

First sentence mate $$$

Always get greedy chairman at lower level clubs that are more worried about lining their pockets than the good of their team long term. 'Let the colts in we'll increase revenue streams, if you don't we'll have to cut funding'

Pretty much bribing.

From P&B

One thing that bugs me so much about the idea of Colt teams in the league is the SPFL keep saying it would be good for young Scottish players development. Realistically only Old Firm will be able to afford this (maybe one or two more) they have never cared at all about developing Scottish players, why start now?

Look at Sevco's Europa league squad for example. Out of 30 they have 13 Scottish eligible players. One is Kenny Miller who's retired and six of them are aged 18 or under with a grand total of eight appearances between them. They won't be anywhere near the team sheet in Europe or in the league and will only be in the squad because of homegrown rules! What makes the SPFL think that they'll be interested at all in young Scottish talent?

The SPFL are trying to pull the wool over our eyes, it's painstakingly obvious they only want to push the Old Firm further over everyone else. Who do they think they're fooling?

Roughly 75% of football fans that took the recent Supporters Direct survey about letting Colt teams into the league have said they're not in favour of it. Taking into account the likeliness that Rangers and Celtic fans would make up some of this number and would likely be largely in favour, I think it's fair to say it's an overwhelming no to the idea from non OF football fans. Over 1,000 fans took part so here's hoping the SPFL & SFA take note and once and for all let this idea die! I'm actually surprised it wasn't more for rejecting the proposal.

http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/15588166.Scottish_Championship_clubs_express_concerns_over_Project_Brave_and_SFA_chief_Stewart_Regan/?ref=wa

Article in the herald about ALL Championship clubs expressing concern over project brave. Very worrying stuff, looks like SFA are pressing ahead in what will ultimately only benefit the top five or six clubs and likely have a big impact on our ability to recruit youngsters.

It would appear that we haven't made it into the elite level of academies.

Second tier of "Performance Progressive" system for us.

Elite level - Blue and Green bigots; Hearts; Hibs; Aberdeen; Motherwell; Hamilton; Kilmarnock.

Cubs so far confirmed for the second tier- St.Mirren; Falkirk; Partick Thistle; Ross County; St.Johstone.

SFA reveal the eight clubs selected to spearhead the elite level of the SFA’s Project Brave radical new blueprint for youth football.

Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen will be joined by Motherwell, Hamilton and Kilmarnock after a brutal application process for academy status.

The plan – more than 18 months in the making – has caused huge friction amongst most clubs in Scotland’s top two tiers because of the costs involved in meeting strict new standards and criteria on facilities and staff.

Instigated to cull the game’s overblown ‘Pro Youth’ system, which previously had more than 2300 kids from ages 10 to 17 in 29 so-called elite academies, the plan was to create a top tier of ‘best v best’ and for the SFA’s £2.2 million budget to be spent on outcomes rather than grant funding.

However the prohibitive costs of some of the standards set have led to the exclusion of some of the country’s most productive academies.

St Mirren - who provided four academy graduates among the 22 players starting for Scotland at full and under-21 level inside 24 hours this week - have been left in the second tier known as ‘Performance Progressive’.

Renowned youth producers Falkirk will join them, alongside the four remaining Premiership clubs Partick Thistle, Ross County, Dundee and St Johnstone.

The make-up of the second and third tranches has yet to be fully finalised, with clubs still going through a series of meetings with an independent panel at Hampden to fight for their status.

Belgian performance specialists Double Pass - who have worked extensively in the Bundesliga, English Premier League and with MLS in America - will come in for the assessment process at the turn of the year.

The plan is expected to be operational in January, with kids up to the age of 16 now switching to a full summer season to aid their development.
