Seen that, took couple of their games in last season and they were in a bad way on and off the park.

They'll bounce back i'm sure, there's been similar articles about them in the past.

Somebody needs to help , cause almost part of our heritage

We should maybe get some buckets at our first home games

Good idea - I'd chip in a few quid if the buckets went round.

I'm a Johnstone boy and was a (fairly) regular attender in the late 80s / early 90s

Just can't get over these days.

This season I attended several Johsntone Burgh games, when the Saint Mirren professional football club pte ltd co were away from home of course.  The Burgh were rank rotten all season yet still more enjoyable to watch than an Alex Rae ran team! I saw them draw twice and lose five!!!!

The team are in a bad way and the crowds of around 39 mean it is in all likliehood unsustainable if nothing changes.  The Burgh badly need locals to start turning up, even a handful oin the gate would make a difference.  I will be back to see as much of them as I can this coming season, hopefully a few more will follow.  At the end of the day its only a fiver for an adult to get in, its football for a fiver!  In fact when the Burgh are at home midweek or on any other day when the michty Mirren are not playing I shall make use of this here little forum to remind y'all.

Mon the Burgh, mon the local fitba.....

Gang forward

The state that the Burgh finds itself in really bothers me.....perhaps we could make an effort as "true football supporters" to attend a pre-season home fixture or two of the Burgh's to show them we care and to help them at the gate a wee bit.

Football is truly a great game and it is in all of our interests that football clubs like this not only survive but floursh.  It would be great to see a few familiar Buddies attending at Keanie park from time to time and this pre-season would be an ideal time to do it.  There is a wee bar and I am sure if a group were to phone ahead and inform them they were coming the bar woukld have adequate tins of beer awaiting you.  The pies are far better than the over priced rubbish we get at the Paisley 2021 and at £1.50 for said pie and only £1 for a bovril (far meatier than the light brown water we pay much more for) you wont have much cause to complain about the welcome.  A coiuple of quid on the 50/50 draw would really help these guys as well.

The Burgh have twice brought the Junior Scottish cup home to Johnstone and to Renfrewshire, lets help them survive.

Mon the Burgh

The first fitba match I ever attended was the Burgh v Pollock , c1968 , years before my first trip to the hallowed halls of the NB. .

Good game as I recall. .would be a pity if anything untoward happened as I still enjoy hearing the Burgh roar when I'm oot dain the gerden. .

yes indeed Gang Forward . .indeed gang forward

JOHNSTONE BURGH APPEAL

Johnstone Burgh have launched an urgent appeal for sponsors and volunteers to help keep the historical club going.

The Keanie Park side have had it tough in recent years both on and off the field with the sides recent relegation to the bottom tier of junior football being the latest blow.

The club now find themselves without vital sponsorships and a dwindling committee of just three elderly men.

Life-long Burgh fan and club secretary Ricky Cantwell says the prospect of Burgh closing their doors for good is a very real one.

He said: “We urgently need to get young people involved with the club as there are only three of us on the committee and we’re all getting on, we can’t run the club on our own anymore.

“It’s vital that we get new committee members as soon as possible, that is the main issue as without a proper committee running the club the future looks bleak.

He added: “Money is also a big issue for us, we incur costs every year with the rent of the ground but we also have to carry out our own maintenance work and that’s not cheap.

“We need new sponsors, we need new committee members, we need match day volunteers, we need as much help as we can get.”

Johnstone Burgh were formed in 1956 and have had great success over the years with their greatest achievements coming in the 60s when they won the Scottish Junior Cup twice, once in 1964 and again in 1968.

The club’s most recent success came during the 2014/15 season when they were promoted from the Central District Second Division, however, they have since been relegated back down.

One Johnstone Burgh player who knows what it’s like to watch a club fold around him is long time Burgh goalkeeper Fraser Wilson.

Fraser was at Stranraer Athletic during their dying days and says he would hate to see the same thing happen to Johnstone Burgh.

He said: “It’s always worrying when you hear things like this, my last club, Stranraer Athletic went to the wall because they had lost their committee.

“The Burgh is a famous name in junior football and it would be soul destroying to see the club disappear.

“Young blood on the committee is every bit as important as on the pitch, probably more so.

“For a town the size of Johnstone not to have a junior club would be unthinkable, hopefully the situation can be sorted.”

A JustGiving page has been set up by Andrew Cantwell, nephew of committee member Ricky, to help raise funds for the club.

It's time they let new blood onto their committee and let them get on with it
Too many good people have left in recent times as they felt they were banging their head against a brick wall
There's is help out there but the old guard will have to change their ways

Yup. Petty personal politics getting in the way. Great community club in there being hindered by the "l'm in charge it's my ball mentality"

SMISA money could help?

Great idea. Saints could buy the club and use it toughen up our youth players and give them more game time. We could call the new club  St Johnstone

See what I did there, and you said I'm not funny:P
