Morton v Saints 12 August

Impossible to say...............4-1 is a bit shit, 10 men or not.

I agree and that's something Jack must look at. Our attacking style doesn't work with a player less. We should have sat back with 10 men and hit on the break.... we live and learn.

Not great in the first half but we had plenty of the ball after the red card, just did nothing with it. Third and fourth goals were awful.

McShane's corners are atrocious and no idea why Sutton was the man sacrificed for Buchanan when it was fairly obvious we'd resort to pumping the ball forward for the midgets to try to win.

Baird reminded me a bit like Kelly. Slow and shaky today. Hindsight is a great thing but perhaps should have played 3 at the back as they have had nothing wide and we been caught over the top and through the middle. When is Harry back?

Harry may be back, IMO, for EK game. It would give him game time

FT 4-1

Back to earth with a bump then. Absolutely pumped by Morton, again. Doesn't get much worse than this, humiliating stuff.

We were on the fortunate side to go in half time level. Second half we completely capitulated. McKenzie in particular had an absolute shocker. In saying that would only give pass marks to Samson and maybe Smith and Morgan. The rest of them were shite.

The decision to hook Sutton for a defender when we went 2-1 down finished us an attacking force, bizarre stuff from the manager.

After that it was walk in from Morton and they could have scored more than they did.

Out the league cup and 3 points from the first 2 games. It's not been a good start to the season by any measure. Long way to go for this team and this manager if we are going to be anywhere near the top end of the table come May.

Pretty much spot on.

Still plenty of time, but losing 4goals to anyone in the league even with 10 men isn't great.

Improvement on last season then.

Wasn't at the game but if McKenzie has been poor then thats a continuation of his form so far his season. He's a big player for us and we need him to get back to his best.

ETA Dundee Utd won with 10 men today so no excuse.

I doubt he would have been the only poor defender, going by the dodgy periscope coverage we were all over the place.

As you say, 10 men doesn't mean a team has to fall apart.

At least the weather was nice!

The goal before half-time put an undeserved gloss on the performance. Would like to see both penalties again (although with Collum in charge it's hard to be surprised), but we'd been second to almost everything.

Understood the Sutton change at the time, but to keep punting it long was lunacy. The odd time we passed the ball we looked okay.

Definite reality check - not sure any outfield players could get pass marks. Sutton at a push, maybe. Concerning that the ball in behind Irvine causes so many problems, but I'd imagine Eckersley comes in on the left when fully fit.

Not good enough. Struggling to think of anyone who can get pass marks.

Right from the first whistle we lumped it long. Every goal kick, every free kick, every pass was long and hopeful.

Morton also played the long ball game but the played the ball over the top into dangerous areas where players with pace could cause problems.

We should have dropped deeper to prevent this but we continued with the high line and played into their hands.

Terrible day at the office all round.

And as I said in the Jack Baird is shite thread. Yes, he's no very good but Gary MacKenzie has been equally shite so far. We really need to sort out central defence out.

Can't wait to hear the opinion of those who were screeching to get Baird back in the team, purely because Buchanan was incapable of single handedly stopping Livingston from scoring against us.

With any luck it'll be a long road back for Jack, not that Buchanan is much better. Baird is just far too unreliable.

You'd think we'd be used to it by now!

Would be nice to extend the feelgood factor into a second week though. I suppose if we'd drawn 1-1 with both Falkirk and Morton, having went 1-0 down in both, we might have thought 'not too bad really, we move on...' - Winning one and losing one gives us one more point than that scenario, so I suppose nothing else to do but to look for that old chestnut.... 'a reaction' in our next game.
