The Scottish Professional Football League has opened disciplinary proceedings against Albion Rovers, after the League One side fielded an ineligible player during their Challenge Cup victory over Spartans.

Liam McGuigan was on the Rovers bench for the first-round tie on Tuesday.

His team won 5-4 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes.

Both teams will be entered in Thursday's second-round draw, pending the outcome of the proceedings.

It might have been reduced to £12500 on appeal.

Also remember some fans donated money to help our Club out.

Not me, it was rip off enough to pay into the 2 Spartans games without paying anymore.

SPFL have awarded the match as a 3-0 win for Spartans.:o

To be fair the SPFL must be seen to be consistent and punish clubs without fear or favour, just as they are soon to announce that all the games played by Rangers before it died will now be deemed 3-0 defeats for every game in which Rangers cheated and fielded players who were being paid undisclosed wages.

Shame about all those fake titles and cheating cups that will have to be asterisked in the record books... but fitba is a sport that, like all other sports, can't be allowed to let cheats win.

Level playing fields and all that.  :)

Spot on Mate

However Hell freezing over springs to mind, which is why was sweeped under the carpet. Of course the press reported the greedy Sellic wanting more titles but in fact, as u say ,the little clubs were impacted far more................... my thoughts............... well visit ever club they played over 12 years, beg forgiveness, pay them about £250k in comp, give us the LC Cup in 2010 and then commit suicide........ on the last point with their BOD and manager this is still very much on the cards , so watch this space !!!

Sorry, DJ....

I think you're confusing the deid club... with an entirely different new club, sevco, with absolutely no history that could possibly be asterisked....  a new club that was somehow finagled intae League 4 a few years ago, by the corrupt Scottish football administration?

Sevco've not really won anything worth asterisking yet. :)

Fair point, they do hold one record in World Football

Name any other team, in the first ever competitive match, think it was away at Peterhead. Where their manager was on £850k a year
