Laissez-faire capitalism has been discredited too, so basically it all comes down to how much legislation of the market you support. The degree of socialist policies on offer from Labour, the Lib Dems & the SNP are disappointing (to me) and despite the Daily Mail rhetoric nothing to worry the middle classes or the rich while Theresa May after making some early noises about wanting to curb "the unacceptable face of capitalism" has clearly ditched this in an attempt to gather any support she can for her disintegrating Brexit policy. Perón did in Argentina too. It's a fairly common right wing ploy, pick your scapegoat and promise everything will be rosy once they've been sorted out. It's still the "go to" policy of the right with Tory rhetoric on this topic eventually leading us to the present Brexit fiasco and just look at Trump in the US. 22 minutes ago, Warwick Hunt said: The UK has been around a 50/50 split between the private and public sectors for decades. Warwick Hunt
Let me get this straight, so right wing mad men promised equality? So, in other words, the National Socialists were in fact, umm, socialists? The nazis were lefties with a scapegoat. It was the scapegoat which made them "right wing". Proper lefties don't bother killing a scapegoat. They treat everyone equally. They just kill everyone.

Bizarrely he could have said more or less the same in Stalinist USSR. Just substitute the word "rich" for the phrase "communist party members". Still it's good to see you're on your best behaviour - hope it continues. Should start a sweepstake on how long it takes before you flounce out again - a year tops is my offer. Bud the Baker
The Scottish and Welsh governments are acting in unison in an attempt to combat the "power grab" being planned by the Tories as part of their grand Brexit strategy (oxymoron alert) yet SLab (& Slibdems) have been strangely silent over the issue while SCons appear to be doing their usual job of standing up for Scotland. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-41312400

I actually for once agree with Willie Rennie, SNPs are dead and will lose next Scottish elections A poor set of elections for the SNP this year with a misjudgement on how enthusiastic about the EEC the 62% who voted Remain were but the underlying situation remains unchanged - Scotland is an irrelevance to the Tories whom I can't see improving their share of the vote in Scotland by much and Labour are in even more turmoil now that Kezia's quit her RD tribute act (which is where this thread started). The backtracking on issues like the military contracts "guaranteed" for Clydeside prior to the referendum shows the reality of the "Union". As ever what will be, will be........... salmonbuddie
With more than three and a half years to go until the next Scottish elections, anyone who thinks they can predict the outcome is as intelligent as, well, Willie Rennie. Come back in two years and you MIGHT be able to offer an opinion that has something to back it up. What he actually means is that in the next election the UK will be dead and ipso facto so will the SNP. We'll be voting along 'traditional' party lines instead for the first government of an independent Scotland.Let's be honest, it's equally likely...
