Do you think we can afgord to sign players, realise they arent up to it, and still carry part of their cost by putting out on loan..?

the manager needs to be more selective in recruitment, thats actually his job! Whats the point in dishing out contracts to players you ship out on loan? He has a few strikers now that he doesn't fancy, all costing money and preventing him from recruiting players who he may actually play.

A lot of players in our price bracket fail to succeed at clubs. Any player is a gamble and some have cost English PL teams multi millions in that failure. Jack, like any manager, will have his share of players who don't fit or suit post transfer but looking at his record there are far more successes than failure. Were you critical when he brought Gavin R to the club? Some of the other recent signings are longer term. If they reach the potential that Jack sees them great, if not then they will find pastures new.

No one has said that, but this manager seems to be unable to identify strikers he actually wants to play once he's signed them.

Duffy, Stewart, Hilson.... now its preventing him adding players he may actually play.

Isn't  that maybe down to luck that we haven't been plagued with injuries or suspensions, where we might have required to use them.

But we have had injuries and suspensions, not up front so much. The question for me is why has he signed way too many forwards for the first team squad who he realises he darent play?

Dud is an emotive and pejorative word to use to describe a player who didn't manage to push their way into the reckoning for the first team and bench.

I prefer to call it unfulfilled potential even where an experienced player is signed. One example for me was Harkins when he was with Saints and Duffy may well be his present day equivalent.

Sometimes things just don't work out.

That's the same in football as in life.

Blame. ...not worth thinking about.

Unable to identify a striker   Who is it he signed that had nearly scored 20 goals this season for us so far ?  We average 3 goals a game from January last season and been averaging 2 goals per game this season      You can go and argue with yourself in front of a mirror  :byebye

Hilton’s out of contract and Stewart’s out on loan. Mullen is in before the window opens. Your point about preventing us signing players is exactly what?

Have to take issue with you here Renfrew, why would you only mention Reilly......what has Cammy Smith ever done to upset you and not get a mention as a striker identified by JR. ^_^

Nah, you're probably right, he's only joint second top scorer in the Championship. ^_^

Thats not the case, Sutton is on the bench every week, Duffy aint!

You are right about John being on the bench every week - two starts in the first two games of the season then dropped since then to warm the bench and only making occasional sub appearances. Twice Duffy and Sutton were on the bench and Duffy came on and Sutton did not. That is quite a telling point to me as to where John is in the pecking order. The Club has tried to unload him before now.  A situation that does not help anyone as Sutton won't get a start unless there is an emergency so he is not pushing anyone that is playing and we need competition for places. Whether fans like it or not Sutton is costing too much to sit on the bench and it is not helping his career.

5 of the top 14 strikers in the Championship are St Mirren players. The Arabs have 1 in the top 14 :)

I am more than happy to agree Reilly was a great signing. To move forward Ross and those who believe he gets everything right need to accept he has chosen badly as well, and tied up wages we could have utililsed to greater effect.

You know you've hit the 'sweet spot' of denial when so many seem unable to accept so small an observation.

Referencing the club website first team squad forwards it shows of the seven forwards listed, Ross only plays two, of the rest, one is injured (again) and one he didnt sign. The numbers speak for themselves.

I would argue that those who don't accept your slant are taking a fuller look. You seem intent on wholly concentrating on those who don't play and assuming Ross thinks them all duds. I think young Stewart has been loaned out to gain experience and is in Jack's plans for the future.
