Buddievision - poor value for money

Recommended Posts

Having been at the game on Friday evening, I was looking forward to reliving some of the moments from the game on Buddievision.

Whilst I had a perfect view of the penalty save and the two goals at the game, I was less than enamoured by the quality of what Buddievision had to offer as their full 90 minutes recording of the game.

What we got appeared to be a pirated download of the BT TV coverage minus any commentary whatsoever.  I had to turn the sound off as the screeching /squealing noises made it unbearable to listen to.

The video quality was poor and the picture aspect was distorted.

I was much more impressed with the recorded highlights on YouTube which came free of charge.

If Buddievision want to hold on to their paying customers they will have to do better!

I don't subscribe for the match coverage which is freely available elsewhere, but for the excellent insights and interviews which have been worth the subscription so far.

I didn't sign up to Buddievision on the basis that compared to the licence fee entitling you to 6 BBC TV channels and all their national and radio stations that Buddievision is over-priced, especially when St Mirren TV and radio seem to be the poorest club TV and radio channels in the Championship.

When northstbuddie showed me how Buddievision managed to mangle perfectly good footage from BT Sports and the bizarre going on with the sound I did think plenty of fans who are self-taught in basic video editing could probably produce a better end product than the Buddievision team's delayed broadcast of the Dundee United game in low res and the wrong aspect ratio - your iphone photos and video clips were in better resolution!

I contacted James Hunter last night and the issue is the St Mirren TV coverage file wasn’t useable so they were trying to get a copy from BT. Unfortunately the company that does the live coverage for BT is now closed until 8th January,

James said JR then spoke to the production manager personally and got him to supply this copy, which James had to go to the guys house to collect.

Unfortunately the sound is corrupted but it was either that or wait until January 8th for a better copy to be available. He will swap the files as soon as the better one becomes available but it was this or nothing for now.

I was also pretty frustrated but after his explanation I realized he had done everything he could.

As an aside, it’s great that the club have become so much more accessible to us.

Thanks for that helpful explanation JG - I accept that things can go wrong from time to time especially when they are IT related.

However, I would respectfully request that the St Mirren TV people address the general problem of low res video output in comparison to what is on offer from other Championship clubs.

Best wishes to everyone at St Mirren TV for 2018.

So the real issue is the continuing duffness of St Mirren TV? Fans with smartphone could get better footage but that's now being clamped down on. What went wrong with st Mirren TV this time?

FFS the guy explained that the file they recorded to became corrupt. They wont have the budget to stretch to mirrored storage backup devices that I assume BT, BBC and Sky have at their disposal.

Anyhow WGAF we are top of the league!!!!

There were 2 issues - 1 St Mirren TV's coverage wasn't usable and 2- the file they got of BT Sports coverage had the sound corrupted. Why is St Mirren TV unable to compete with the competancy of Dumbarton FC when it comes to providing highlights quickly and using multiple cameras... and then there is the commentary.

When you start asking people to pay money you can rightly expect harsh criticism when you provide absolute crap in return.

Nobody cares how much effort the staff at BuddieVision put in. Why on earth would they? Why on earth SHOULD they?

This is the world of commercialism. You cannot get away with amateurism when people are paying.

Either buck up or accept you will have no customers by the end of the season.

Comparing this service to the BBC is just bizarre.

ETA - on BBC just now? Antiques f**king Roadshow. I'd rather watch shaky camerawork of Samson's left arse cheek than this tedious, middle class pandering shite.

Maybe but at least I don't spend my days polluting the forum with endless and utterly pointless personal abuse against posters I don't agree with. Really don't know why tou bother posting if this is all you can come up with.

You and TPAK thingy are really showing yourselves up as a pretty intolerant and nasty pair underneath the wafer thin surface of your compassionate lefty fakery.

I agree that comparing this service, in it's infancy, to the BBC is pretty bizarre, as is quoting that the Antiques Roadshow is a typical programme, while letting off some sort of class reference.

Step away from the cheap wine.

You are close about Oaky right enough.

Abusing you will never be pointless. Not for me at any rate. I think it's great.

It just so happened that Antiques Roadshow was on at the time. Awful example of some of the drivel the BBC produces (in my opinion, of course).

The last five minutes of tonight's antiques road show was brilliant.

Old guy who worked making props in Ellstree studios had three items from films that he saved from the skip.

An incomplete Darth Vader helmet valued at £200K. Some metal medallion from Raiders of the lost ark valued at £80K and the original axe from The Shining valued at £50K.

The point I was making about the licence fee is it costs twice as much per month as Buddievision... and there are 6 or 7 TV channels, some of which are on 24/7, plus all the national and local radio stations. Buddievision gives you about 20 minutes of exclusive content a month.

It would seem to be way too early for the club to launch a pay service given the quality of coverage they are able to provide.

A corrupt file simply should not happen, there isn't any excuse for that if you are charging people for the service.

The quality of the matchday coverage has gone downhill this season too, which is understandable as it is presumably a less experienced group of students from UWS running it now.  The new co-commentator is absolutely bloody awful though, clearly has no affinity for St Mirren and quite simply just talks utter shite all through the game.  Please just stick to describing what is going on and who has the ball, boys - you are not as clever as you think!

I don't see much point in paying another subscription for the interviews, should really be the type of thing the club put out for free in my opinion.

Despite the inane ramblings of the commentary team, St Mirren TV remains a great service and I'm delighted to have access to it when working abroad.

St.Mirren TV even with the dodgy camera work and "wonderful" commentary is a good  service for far flung buds. I do not agree with  buddievision in its current format is the same value for money added on top of St.mirren TV though as I already pay a yearly subscription  to watch the matches  so why would I want to/should have to pay to watch a couple of interviews on top.

The comparison with BBC is perhaps not a fair one but how about with BTsport with its 4 or 5 sports channels?

£63 for Saints TV euro's plus the £50 for buddievision = £113 / year

If you have the following:

Plusnet/plusnet TV its £60 a year

BT internet/TV Free

Sky TV/BT internet £120 a year

OK so they also use BTsport as a sweetener for taking their internet/tv package but most of us have an internet/TV package.

Overall as I say I think Saints TV us good  but when you have to add buddievision it really becomes expensive for what it is.

If you compare like for like then look at Hibs TV, buddievision compares favourably at £50 compared to £59 so as a standalone service it works.
