Very disappointing, my 7 year old son has a condition that requires a lot of management and the care he has received up there since diagnosis has been outstanding, as usual it’s all about money, going forward the thought of having to deal with this ‘super hospital’ in Govan petrifies my wife and I.

Closing any ward or facility is always very emotive.
In this case there is a national centre less than 6 miles away which will actually be more convenient for many who currently use Rah.
It's a storm in a teacup which will be used to try and gain political advantage.
The NHS is always a political football no natter who is in government.

Anyone i know who has had treatment at the QE has been very well treated.  Hopefully you wil still see some of the same staff and get the same level of care as your son currently gets.

And what about patienst from Johnstone, Howood, Houston and even Inverclyde who all use the RAH ? It's not very convenient for them.

It was a politcal decision, the Health Secretary could have stopped it, the Finance Minister (a Renfrewshire MSP) could have improved funding for the Scottish NHS, the First Minister said live on telly there were no plans to close ward 15 before the last election. Not the first time she's been economical with the truth. Why haven't the Renfrewshire MPs and MSPs been standing up their party about this. The SNP might shout about putting Scotland first, they just conveniently ignore the people of Scotland.

It's a health board decision, ratified by the health minister.
It's actually easier to get to the new kids hospital on the QEUH site from Inverclyde than it is to get to RAH.
From West of Johnstone it's much the same.

Out patients will still be treated at the RAH. Emergency Dept (A&E) is still at RAH.

Politicians claiming this decision will cost lives are scaremongering to a ridiculous level.

The money that would keep ward 15 open can be better spent in the NHS.

In fairness, it was the 'Kids Need Our Ward' pressure group who made that claim. Didn't stop the 'socialist' Anas Sarwar make an arse of himself, though. Not that that's a new thing...

Really ?  Despite being about 3-5 miles further its probably quicker to get to the New Hospital , its hardly moving to the other side of the country !!

iwhat about those from Renfrew, Inchinnan , Erskine  ? its quicker for them.

As the incumbent government now for about 8yrs , obviously the SNP are going to get critizism as it is politically impossible to get everything right and in Britain as a whole the NHS is teetering on a knife edge . Whilst I don't agree with everything the Party does (in particular under Sturgeon) I think it is fair to say they have made a positive difference on the whole . We all need to take more care of ourselves and avoid hospitals as much as possible as they are all struggling to deliver now. .

  • 1 year later...

Was at Glasgow Royal's A&E Dept. on Friday night as pat of my First Aider duties (accompanying colleague with fractured wrist) and once again would like to express my admiration for the NHS and indeed all public services - let's raise taxes and fund them properly.

Bit of a zoo with always about 6 or so policepersons present but the hospital staff  (& the polis) were courteous & helpful at all times.

To repeat myself - let's support our public services!

While I agree the cuts have a massive effect on the ability to run an efficient service this get's used to cover up the incompetency in the NHS.

My dad was in the RAH for 5 months and the number of quite frightening instances that occurred in the ward were staggering.

Too many to start listing but after making an official complaint the response was amateurish, to say the least.

Raised this to the ombudsman who were even worse.

They reduces the instances from 7 to 3, with no reason.

Next step....................well not sure but the fact is too many  of the staff are not up to the job in my recent experience.
