How many points will win the league?

Recommended Posts

1 more than our nearest rivals.

But the maximum our rivals can achieve winning all remaining games is 79 ( they’d need to win 11 in a row )

Not unreasonable to think they could win 7 draw 2 lose 2 at a guess , so could be as high as 80 on that basis ?

But realistically, I think 76

The most Livi or Utd can reach is 76, so currently 77 will win the league.

That will reduce as they drop points.

Maybe 70 might be enough.

Erm 79 by my calculations - Livi 46 pts. from 25 games and a potential 33 more. Yenitit are 6 behind wit 2 games in hand so like you said the same.

If they continue at their current rate Livi will finish with 67 pts. (rounding up) and Yenitit 63.

70 might well be enough although I'd like 76 which was our total in 99/00 and 05/06 just to be safe.

79 or 80 would be good.  Would then surpass the total for previous title winning sides. ( I remember noticing a target of 21 points for the first quarter on a board behind Jack Ross in a photo on line. We achieved that. )

I have been using the google somewhat and had a look at the Scottish Championship/First division tables for this century.  This journey starts of course with our beloved team winning the 1999/2000 season.

Now the lower points totals I shall list here, look like 70 should be enough but as stated above we normally get 76 points when we win this league, lets hope for the same!

2001/2002 Partick Thistle won with only 66 points.  The team in second had 56 pts.

2006/2007 Gretna won with only 66 points.  The team in second had 65 points.

2008/2009 St Johnstone won with only 65 points.  The team in second had 55 points.

2003/2004 Inverness Caledonian Thistle won with only 70 points.  Notably though Clyde ran them very close and finished with 69 points.

2013/2014 Hibernian won with 71 points, Dundee in second however had 69 points.

So my detailed review of the league tables for this century suggests that 70 tends to be the magic number.  Knowing our luck Livingston will go on a magical run and we will have to work that bit harder but we shall prevail.  Prevail we shall indeed.

A further study of the bridesmaids (those who finish in second place) is as follows

2016/2017 - Falkirk 60 pts

2015/2016 - Falkirk 70 pts

2014/2015 - Hibernian 70 pts

2013/2014 - Hamilton Academical 67pts

2012/2013 - Greenock Morton 67pts

2011/2012 - Dundee 55pts

2010/2011 - Raith Rovers 60pts

2009/2010 - Dundee 61pts

2008/2009 - Partick Thistle 55pts

2007/2008 - Dundee 69pts

2006/2007 - St Johnstone 65pts

2005/2006 - St Johnstone 66 pts

2004/2005 - The Saint Mirren professional football club pte ltd co first team playing squad 60 pts

2003/2004 - Clyde 69pts

2002/2003 - Clyde 72pts

2001/2002 - Airdre 56pts

2000/2001 -  Ayr Utd 69 pts

1999/2000 - Dunfermline 71pts

So on average 70 points should be enough but still doubtful.  71 has only been achieved once this century by a bridesmaid (Dunfermline 1999/2000) and 72 also achieved only once (Clyde in 2002/2003).

Get the champagne on ice Buddies and lets just get 70 points as soon as we can.  My sphincter will untighten at 73 points and positively relax at 74.  We are on our way, on our way indeed.

Our rivals Morton and Livvy have 11 games left ..... 33pts

We are 11pts clear with 33pts available to our rivals, only one can win all remaining games

ive disregarded D.UTD who are in free fall

I reckon the league will be won sooner rather than later

Simple answer is how many points St Mirren get ----will win league.............

1st 9 games we got 21 points

2nd 9 we got 17

3rd we are on course for 21 points, if we beat Falkirk.............

So even if we get another 4 wins in last 9 it will be more than enough.

Anyone who looks at form book, should see that United have to beat us, not to win title but have a chance at second..... I will stick my neck out and say United will finish 5th. Last 6 league games PL 6 W 1 D 1 L 4 . Last league win was 2nd Jan against Brechin at home, losing 2-0. 6-1, 3-0 and 2-1.

Ton play Livi tomorrow. I can see that match as the race to 2nd, the misfiring Pars and Queens are capable of catching United

Having watched Livi Utd game I saw at first hand just how bad Utd are, they really should have been thrashed but for 2 woeful offside decisions .................

We only play Ton, United and Livi once more this season, and 2 of them are at home...................

Match 33 is when we win League

Reasons why one should read all posts before posting oneself.

As things stand today we need 23 points to win the league, which is assuming that Livingston or Dundee Utd win all their remaining games.

Obviously that is very unlikely so the total will drop as either teams around us slip up and we pick up more points.

Interesting to note that Livingston have to play Morton three more times!
