Hearts Preview

Written by B&W Army Webteam.

The buddies faithful travel to the Capital tomorrow as St.Mirren meet Hearts in the first of this seasons William Hill sponsored Scottish Cup Quarter Final ties.

With the match live on BBC Scotland (12:30 kick off) the buds get the ideal chance to show the nation some sexy football and right a few Tynecastle wrongs in the process.

It was just under 2 months ago that the sides last met, with Saints going down to a humiliating 5-2 defeat having led 2-1 against a home side reduced to ten men. It was a defeat that hurt the players and the fans and one that everyone will be keen to avenge tomorrow in front of what could be a sparsely populated Tynecastle.

Just 1000 briefs have been sold for the Saints end, with fans unimpressed at the kick off time and the ticketing prices and we understand the overall gate could be lucky to make it into five figures with sales down Gorgie way none too impressive either.

The Scottish Cup always inspires the buddies and you can bet that the thousand or so black and white army footsoldiers that do travel tomorrow will make a hefty racket as they look for the team to extend the dream that 25 years on Saints can again lift the nations most illustrious domestic trophy.

Lady luck has certainly been on our side thus far in the competition this year, with the Dougie Imries shot crashing off the post in the New Douglas Park replay in round four whilst Richard Brittains missed penalty in the last minute of the first meeting with Ross County in round five was also an incredible let off. In actual fact tomorrow will be out fifth game in this seasons tournament which is the same number of games it took us to win the cup back in 1987 !

Hearts were of course vanquished on that never to be forgotten cup run, and Saints also knocked them out of the League Cup semi finals just three years ago. The Jambos are famous for choking when Saints get involved and the stakes are raised so let's hope they do it again tomorrow.

The buddies welcome back Paul McGowan from suspension and Graham Carey from injury but Dougie Imrie is cup tied and misses out as do Darren McGregor and Marc McAusland. The best news of the day though is that Rudi Skacel, so often the tormentor of the srtripes (8 goals in the last three meetings between the sides at Tynecastle have come from him) is struggling and may not make the home line up tomorrow. David Templeton also missed out and Scott Robinson is doubtful.

Should be a great occasion, let's give it everything we have on and off the park and keep the dream alive. #25YearsOn

Divs Prediction
If there is one team we are due some luck against it is Hearts, but there is also an argument that says we have been unbelievably lucky to get this far in the tournament this season so we shouldn't count on fortune coming our way tomorrow. We CAN beat this Hearts side if everyone plays their part. Nigel Hasselbaink can be the difference I feel as Hearts won't like his pace and direct running and big Thommo can hopefully find the fire power to put is through to the last four. We believe !

We are getting the 10am train through tomorrow from Queen Street, hope to meet a few buds on that one. Remember you can get half price train tickets online at www.scotrail.co.uk/marchmadness and collect these at the station before you leave.

That was a pretty good result but omce again we did not score goals when we were on top in the first 30 minutes. We should have had the game sewn up as we were playing some really good stuff and missed several great chances.
In the end we were a wee bit fortunate, though had we got beaten it would have been a tragedy. Typical .......... they are taking the goal away from Nigel!
I still think we can sort them out on the 21st so lets look for a huge St Mirren support on that night.

My understanding is that Barron and McAusland would not have been fit enough to go onto the pitch...Why put them on the bench? BAFFLING!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!
