Aberdeen 0 St.Mirren 0

Written by B&W Army Webteam.

Saints extended their unbeaten run against Aberdeen to seven games as the two sides slogged out another goal-less draw at Pittodrie. Unfortunately we had no reporter at the match yesterday so here's a round up from the media on the game including links to all the match reports;

BBC Sport Scotland - Full Report

Aberdeen have yet to score in 270 home minutes this season after St Mirren extended their unbeaten away record with a fortunate draw.

Self-proclaimed passers St Mirren were outpassed, out-thought and outfought but held on to stay ahead of the Dons on goal-difference.

Josh Magennis had a header cleared off the St Mirren line and Dons substitute Cammy Smith sent another off the bar.

Stephen Hughes, who had recovered from a hamstring strain, and Josh Magennis both started in place of the absent Ryan Jack and Gary Naysmith.

St Mirren, meanwhile, brought in defender David van Zanten for David Barron, who dropped to the bench, while defender Paul Dummett was named as a substitute after signing on loan from Newcastle United.

Danny Lennon's side arrived in Aberdeen in confident mood following their midweek 5-1 win over Ayr United in the Scottish Communities League Cup.

The Buddies were also unbeaten in their previous six SPL meetings against the Dons, with three wins and three draws.

The Scottish Sun - Full Report

Jim Goodwin was the hero for them on 32 minutes as he cleared a Josh Magennis header after it had struck the post.

St Mirren finally got an effort of their own on 43 minutes as Kenny McLean’s cross was met by the unmarked David van Zanten, with the Irishman’s half-volley flying past from 10 yards.

St Mirren were much more adventurous after the break and Paul McGowan tested Jamie Langfield with a low 15 yard strike that was well held by the Dons No1.

McLean lined up another effort moments later but his attempted lob was over ambitious and went harmlessly over from 25 yards.

I was not there but 0 0 is an acceptable result for us even though all reports state that we were not at our best and were lucky to get a point.
I do not care ............... a point is a point............. and every point is a prisoner.
See you all in 2 weeks when we take on Hearts at home..... now that is where we must pick up 3 points ............ maybe even 1 point !

point at aberdeen is decent enuf but given the reports that dons dominated most of the game and we didnt concede, its not that bad. Lets hope for a positive home draw in league cup and look to go forward to the next round!!

We need to watch out before history repeats itself. We are not scoring well enough and there are no obvious relegation candidates so we could easy be drawn in. It's ok scoring five against Ayr but people on here seem to think that was somehow marvelous. It was AYR !!!

Dundee are now off the starting blocks and I can see a long hard season again in front. Danny is not the man for a top class St Mirren but if you want to settle for average then so be it, Watch people on here shoot me down now as they don't like reality or the truth !!!

Sanny, nothing wrong with having an opinion but to say we aren't "scoring well enough" is a bit harsh. We have scored in all our SPL games minus Aberdeen at the weekend and to put 5 past Ayr considering they knocked us out the cup last year is certainly an improvement. Just look at the SPL clubs that went out in the last round and you can see that we went about our business in a professional manner.

I believe DL and TC are the men to take us forward, the type of football we play is exciting and although we make a few mistakes at the back every so often, we seem to be turning losses from last year into draws this year and hopefully be turning draws from last year into wins this year. I think we have plenty of firepower to score goals this season, its just the defence that maybe needs shored up a bit.

Yes Dexy I have been a St Mirren fan for 50 years and maybe it's just that I remember the great days of Blair, Gilshan , Adamson and Kane.
I was there when Fergie took the helm and although we are doing ok in the current circumstances I think we CAN bring back the great years again. I am just not big on mediocrity and I am trying to stimulate more thought on here rather than just hear people say "bring in another defender" or let's try and get a draw this week" etc ........I want more than that and nothing wrong with ambition. The team has the basis but if we want it big then I just don't feel we will do it with the current set up. I have never sat on the fence and never will. That is why my opinions sometimes hurt.

Sanny, its all very good and well to want to push for greatness but in this day in age football is ruled purely by money not hope, dreams or even ambition. Ambition nowadays is dictated by money.
As long as we try and live by our financial means which is around 3000-4000 fans at home games every 2 weeks then we will continue to fight relegation and pick up free transfers.

You can remember the 'good old days' all you want but can i suggest once you're finished you join us all back in 2012 where scottish football is skint and st mirren, along with other teams in the spl fight to survive.

positive draw in cup at home to hamilton and lets make sure we are in last8 rather than hoping. With regards to sannys point, i take his opinion on board, but in being realistic the great old times under alex ferguson are in the past and trying to do business with one hand tied behind ur back and chocolate buttons to spend in the harsh financial climate and i am in agreement with sanny that we should b looking higher than avoiding relegation. A realistic outlook for season is 4th,5th or 6th and not higher than that as some fans and our jim goodwin has suggested. Anyone agree?

I believe 4th, 5th or even 6th would be a great achievement for St Mirren this year.
No club is going to dominate (apart from Celtic) and therefore we have a reasonable squad with which to achieve our goal.
It would appear that every club can beat everybody else so we must make sure we are in "the mix" in the top 6 at the end of the season.
We just need a little more composure in front of goal........ we make the chances but seem to get "too excited" when the goal is open for attack and rush everything.
Sometimes I wonder what thje players do in training........... I hope it is more that a gentle jog round the pitch and a game of "keepy up"

On a different point.................
Just read that Richard Atchinson's attempt to take over the club without putting up any of his own money has finally been bombed out by the present shareholders due to the fract that RA and his pals kept changing their offers and at last the Board got fed up.
It also appears that the so called backers of the offer have vanished into thin air........... I wonder if they were ever there !!!
Now that RA has been shown to be a "man of straw" and a fraud hopefully he will have nothing more to do at St Mirren Park and will be shown the door.
He has strung the Board and the Sharehoders along for long enough and we now need to get rid of him.and look for somebody who really does have the team's interests at heart.
SG has been excellent for St Mirren and we must appreciate that.

glad to c 10000 hours bid been put in the bin, and thats where it should have been when he was trying to buy club with no cash of his own and relying on fans and business to poni up the doe and i am not even sure the fans would have the control he said they would have done and lets hope someone with CASH buys the club and improves current status. Onto scotland well done to samson on getting callup, but i hope mgregor is fit as he is way and by far scotlands best goalie as he showed on saturday. I cannot take levein seriously as i am sure he said if you are not playing for your club, you wont be picked and his team selection was baffling, maloney perhaps playing his best football at wigan and didnt get on and young forrest of celtic playing really well and getting short period of time. Without spreading doom and gloom we must win tonite or our world cup dream may be over before it started. Anyone agree
