Saints Beaver Invasion !

Written by B&W Army Webteam.

The club continue to do some fantastic work with the local community, engaging with groups all across Renfrewshire and beyond in a whole variety of initiatives.

One such example of this has been the recent Grass Roots scheme which is open to any local youth groups, allowing up to 30 kids to attend a Saints home match completely free of charge (For more information please contact Community Coach, Steven Sweeney on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Fans attending this weekends crunch game with Dundee at St.Mirren Park will also see more tangible evidence of this sterling work as over 100 local Beavers from the Paisley and District group will be attending and roaring on the buddies from the family stand.

Speaking about the trip leader Jill Brooks commented;

"Following on from the successful visit to Saint Mirren Park last year with 120 Beaver Scouts, (and a win) we decided to try and return again this year.

I contacted the club and they were more than happy to accommodate Paisley and District Beavers again to create some noise.

Saints are a family orientated club so hopefully some of the Beavers will return in the future with their parents.

The club have been very helpful with accommodating us within the family stand, so I would like to thank the staff at the ticket office for ensuring we were all together.

This is a great opportunity for both the club and the local scout movement to build up a positive partnership and support the community.

Thanks to all at the club who helped this visit be possible again. We are very grateful."

Good work, again, from those at the club who seldom get the recognition they deserve for their efforts !

I agree 100%.
Anything to shy away from making an investment in the team and facing the fact that we need to strengthen the pool of players
If the directors do not see where their priorities lie then we are in deep trouble.
If we continue as we are there will be NO Saint Mirren in a few years and they can then open the doors to any "Tom, Dick or Harry" as they will be the best club in the Junior divisions.
Do the directors really believe that their current actions are going to help Saint Mirren to survive and to encourage supporters through the turnstiles.
Start winning games on a regular basis and then you will see increases in the support.
Fans like to follow a winning team !!
And we sure are not that right now.

The two comments above make me ashamed to be a St.Mirren supporter to be honest. Horrible that you could both hijack a story about young kids in Renfrewshire being encouraged along to support the club with your petty, ill informed rants.

If this attitude continues the beavers will be the only ones left. This is a great opportunity to sign jill brooks she will come free and no signing on fee.Oh stuart says (get behind the team) do you sense he only cares when its advantageous to him.

Gilmour will stoop to any level as long as it doesn't cost him anything. In fact he is probably hoping that another 100 pies will be sold as that is the level of his short sighted thinking. Until we can get real vision then we should prepare for life in a lower division (one that we won't get back out of either) For God's sake WAKE UP GILMOUR !!!!!

OK we all have views on club investment etc, but the above negative comments are out of order. The club is doing tremendous work in the community and should be encouraged, this is one avenue that can introduce new fans to the club.

Great idea.

My wee nephew is going along as part of this group and is really looking forward to it.

Can't believe the negative posts that St Mirren fans can post on a positive story.

We really do have some bitter and miserable supporters in our ranks. Disappointing but after almost 30 years of going to saints games it really doesn't surprise me.

I think it is great if we can encourage the young people of Paisley to come and support Saint Mirren but believe me they will soon drift away if every week we are getting beaten and they have to suffer ridicule at school from those kids whose parents take them to see C and R !
To encourage children to come and support their local team we need a team that wins and with the skinflint attitude of the board and the sometimes suspect tactics of our manager that is not happening.
Remember that if we are to pay money every week we want to be entertained and not to walk out after each game with "long faces" bemoaning another defeat.
"Points" do not only make prizes they also put "bums on seats"

Getting back to saturdays encounter we have beaten this lot away from home no reason why we cannot do it again I hope thommo is not played in a lone striker role as i think we should go for the jugular and i mean that(in football terms) So hit them hard and fast and i will delighted.

Seems like the current board delivering a brand new stadium, a brand new training complex, removing the club of all debt, and appointing the man who took us to our highest league finish in over 30 years last season is not enough for some.

Yes, it appears that six defeats on the bounce have the knicker wetters in full flow and quite happy to forget the monumental achievements listed above.

Utterly shameful.

I agree 100%, rather than get behind what this club is trying to achieve, on and off the park, they blow a short fuse when things dont go right. Its disgraceful.

The team will turn it around im confident :) we have a team with experience, quality, young talent coming through. Lets hope it starts this weekend. COYS

All true these developments and asset building has been achieved and is realy great and surely appreciated. However through your (single minded view)have you noticed that the playing side of the business has been sadly neglected thus the support is not happy with their share of the deal.as they to put their cash into the club. This manager promised at least a top six finish and this presumption is way off the mark so do you blame them for moaningHave you also forgot that these achievements are(up for sale ) so it was not done for your average supporters benefit In esence you seem to be happy with a (stuck in the mud) attitude when it comes to saints progress as long as we have a new indoor faciliity I am a person who also likes to make a profit but your one sided outlook is not relevant And also let us not forget the board are not the angels you portray them a such that during stuarts (six teams will go in to liquadation.period he was gone.

The playing side has been badly neglected ?

Yet we still achieved our highest league finish in over 30 years last season and are in the semi-finals of one of the domestic cups this time round.

We have players competing in the Scotland youth setups at every level from u-21 down the way.

The fact is we have lost a few games, and all the toys are being thrown out of the pram by some of our "supporters".

"I'm St.Mirren till we lose a few games" it seems.

Anybody that knows me willtell you that childrens needs are one of my top priorities.I do not think that giving them tickets to watch saints will (convert them in to saintism) ThisI processs is usualy directed through hereditary genes.leaving us with(paisley buddies) supporting the old squirm In essence what is needed is for saints to progress into the upper half of the league making us a more interesting proposition .This will entice them more than any bit of paper.everwill When i was young i was given a free ticket to watch gers i went but it did not make me a ranger and next day i forgot all about it.Also any kids do not say if you get me a ticket i will support you forever. kids always refer to where a team are in the league irrelevant to anything else..

Well said ML Stewart ...absolute sense. If it were up to guys like Graham we would be waiting until doomsday for things to be right. According to him we blow a short fuse when things don't go right. Well graham I hate to tell you but we just broke the record for the worst run of defeats and we HAVE been patient but this cannot go on. I see now we are scraping the barrel today by having Newcastle's kids up to try and sort things out !! They will be made mincemeat in this division and again it is Gilmours idea of getting something for nothing. Don't be fooled by the way as all these new facilities off the park are designed to make the club more saleable. Why not ask him what his REAL LONG TERM plans are ?? He of course won't tell you. And all along the true fans are again being shafted.

Some of the comments above beggar belief & make me ashamed to be a St.Mirren fan. How any so called St.Mirren fan can criticise the club for getting more kids along to watch our beloved team & increase the attendance is beyond me. If even one kid who attends becomes hooked on the club then it's worth it. The kids are the future of our support. As for calling fellow fans "crawlers & head nodders" is complete &utter nonsense. These people & myself have St.Mirren at heart & have committed so much of our time, energy & money over the last 40 years home & away. We have in the past & continue to offer constructive criticism, whilst offering our ideas to improve matters both on & off the park. Being honest when I read some of the comments I found myself saying "we would be better off without these people". You just don't get it.
Yes we are on a bad run but now is the time to unite & get everyone behind the team. Let's sing our hearts out tomorrow & help us get a much needed win. SMTWD

Still can't believe the negativity on this positive story. Some of you peeps need to lighten up a bit and chill out. Wonder what you will be saying if we beat Dundee 5:2 tomorrow and these 100 or so kids are desperate to come back for the cup tie next weekend.

Beggars belief the thinking behind some of these, almost moronic, posts.

Hope my wee nephew witnesses a great game and the kids enjoy their match day experience.

Keep up the good work St Mirren.

Great stuff. Keep up the community involvement side of things. It really is (in my opinion) the way forward in building the fan base mid to long term and building the atmosphere at games now! I have sympathy with some comments made where those posting would like to see more investment on the playing side but am realistic enough to know that is unlikely to happen any time soon - so for me - Welcome to the Beavers and Make some noise for the Paisley boys!

When I read the headline I just presumed we would be treated to some fake tanned sprayed dolly bird on the park pre-match but the Beavers were there after all and seemed to enjoy their wee day out. Hopefully some of them will become future supporters of Paisley St. Mirren.

Can we not get any better songs to sing ? I remember when my Uncle used to take us to Love Street and there were great St Mirren songs like Molly Malone and stuff, Those were in the great traditions of the club. The real St Mirren from the origins of the founder of Paisley. Let's get back to our roots. All we hear nowadays is come on ye saints which is quite unimaginative.
