    Annual, Manager Must Go Thread.

The results are merely part of the problem albeit a big one. I can honestly say that for the second half yesterday, I noticed myself doing something that I've been doing a lot more when watching these games on the telly. I switched off. Not physically, as the game remained on til the end but I found myself browsing my phone, drifting away onto another subject whilst the hopeless commentator mumbled a lot of stupid platitudes in the background and I realised, I wasn't f**king interested. Anyone who knows me from off of here, understands and knows that when I'm at a match, I'm usually one of those folk that the commentator is apologising on behalf of for the language. I attack every ball mentally, I live on the edge of my seat for the full 90 mins... always has been the case... even way back in mid 90s as a ball boy when I got 'booked' post match in the tunnel for calling the ref a 'f**king joke' under my breath as we trudged past him following a controversial loss. 😂 Point being, at the end, if we win, it's a boost mentally but if we lose, when I leave I make sure I never let it affect me personally or my mood outwith the immediate hour or two in the aftermath of the result. But as I sat yesterday, I realised, we're so mind numbing that I had my face in my phone for the full second half, I didn't care to mentally will the team forward or even get frustrated at them for misplaced passes etc, as the team, frankly are f**king boring. Not just shite. We've seen shite in the past, more times than I care to remember, but absolutely devoid of any ability in the opposition half, a basic competence of getting the ball into area where we potentially might score. When we do get into the final third, we seem to have stumbled into it rather than carved out a chance. My main criticism of Goodwin teams is that there is no attacking intent or finesse, it's a horribly panicked mantra of 'get the ball forward 50 times, one or two of those are bound to have a lucky bounce and let us in for a shot' and it's absolutely painful to watch. I'm not in the Goodwin out camp. Not yet anyway, but he's about 3 or 4 weeks away from being untenable. Even if the results do turn, the football served will still be the gash were subject to. I don't mind a team hunkering in and grinding out a result when the pressure is on but we should not be performing that way against teams around us. It's an eyesore and a total turnoff.

It's the right decision IMO , and gives us a chance to get someone else in before Hibs ! JG knows Jacko's limitations , but he really should have brought him on for the injured Fraser on Saturday , if only to keep our shape .

Foley is not a captain. Say what you like about Stephen McGinn but he could grab a game by the scruff of the neck and drive his team mates on. He did not suffer lack of effort from anyone. Considering the number of ex captains in the team I see little leadership on the park.

I don’t think Tony will be regretting anything. He constantly gets misquoted. All he ever says is that there’s no reason why St. Mirren can’t be a Top 4/Top 6 team and he is 100% correct every time he says it. The fact that we have yet to do it, or the fact that it looks unlikely we’ll do it this season, does not change that one bit.. Top and bottom of it is, if St.Johnstone, Motherwell or Kilmarnock can be a top 4 team, then so can we.

For the umpteenth time - we did not get off to a good start. We were being consistently outplayed in midfield (against the weaker teams in the league) and powder puff up front. Only the defence performed to an acceptable standard. We were lucky to accrue the 7 points we have so far.
  11. 7 points
You know I can take losing if you have a go but this is so negative. Four defeats in a row and were sitting in against Kilmarnock at home. Something isn’t right here and am I the only one who’s incredibly bored with our football at present. Style is awful
  12. 7 points
We really are hopeless. The midfield doesn't contribute enough going forward , and I'm sick of hopeful punts up to one striker . We know Rogers is a doo and their full-backs are poor yet we don't set up to put them under pressure. Another defeat here and questions need asked !

That was just a media creation, give the nation a feelgood story to take their mind off the shit going on, or the fact those in power had used the situation as a power grab on human rights. Plus, it reinforces the notion that the NHS is a charity. Load of bollocks, the NHS should be paid for by government through taxes, not from some old codger walking round his garden and allowing the media to make the old war comparison. It's amazing so many people fell for it.

    St.Mirren v Green Bigots

Few things to take away from tonight. 1) Erwin is going to be a bit of a handful up top. If we're going with only 1 up he actually seems better at that role than Obika. 2) McGrath should be our main set piece taker, no questions asked 3) We're a better team for not having Sheron in it. 4) we need to work on defending cross balls. That's all 5 goals we've lost against the old firm this season that have come from balls being played in from wide. It's a real issue. We give away very little through the middle and look solid but we look weak defending crosses. 5) Connolly looks like he's going to be a good out ball and we should be using his pace as much as possible until he burns himself out after 65 mins.

Undoubtedly our defending for the goals was very poor. However, for that wee prick Collum to miss both the penalty (you won't see a clearer hand ball all season) and Boyle's handball for the goal is criminal. Given his uber vigilance in the Shaughnessy sending off it rankles a tad. I wonder if the poster that was telling us just how good an official Collum is after his role in the aforementioned sending off will be on to reinforce his view.

At least Shaughnessy is back. You just know that we'll go five in midfield with Sheron there to kick people about, which is all he appears to be good at. Sadly a horsing is on the cards.

Crazy decision unless we have another central defender coming in. Even when Shaughnessy returns we need cover. Personally I think Baird did ok when he had a quality centre half beside him directing him.

I think Goodwin is wrong. Bairdy would have been a good squad member. Goody must remember when Rae treated him and Thommo so badly. Not happy with St Mirren or Goody. Good luck Bairdy.

Goodys post match interview when he talks about the lack of defenders is horrendous. Gave away Paul McGinn. We have 4 defenders at the club. Let Bairdy go. Now he said. WERE NOT BLESSED WITH A LOT OF DEFENDERS, f**king Stevie Wonder could see that. [emoji35]

We have some good players. However team selection and formation is undoing us. If Jim plays the right players in the right positions in the right formation then we are more than capable to be a top six. McGrath for example clearly demonstrates he is better through the middle but often is played out wide where he is wasted. McPherson has drive and commitment and is not afraid to shoot from outside the box but for some weird reason cannot even get into the team. McAllister who is powder puff and cannot last 90 mins is an automatic pick. We need to stop playing wide players who cannot contribute and leave the midfield overrun, and start playing a passing game through the middle to support a striker. 4-2-3-1 for me with McGrath playing behind Erwin with Connolly and McPherson either side and Foley and Erhahon behind them. Please Jim, just try it

St Mirren v Hibs Sat 12th Sept

Disappointed about yesterday but not too downhearted. With Jak and Shaughnessy in the team I reckon we would not have lost at least 2 of yesterdays goals although Hibs deserved the win overall. I was a critic of Ethan 2 seasons ago (and I know he was playing out of position), Many players have to play out of position at some point but he looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights most of the time showing little calmness or game intelligence. However yesterday I ate my words where he demonstrated both those qualities. Don't know why Cammy is missing but he has to come back into the team. McGrath has nice touches but needs more energy around him - think Foley and Cammy can improve his input. Connolly looked decent on the right and should improve. I also thought Dennis showed a few nice touches. But Erwin could be a big player for us playing through the middle (I saw a video of a goal he scored in training on Thu and it was a peach from outside the box). He holds the ball up well, closes down and can shoot from outside the six yard box . If we sign the left sided player we are after then hopefully that means we can play Tait at CH if necessary in an emergency and not have to disrupt the midfield. So there are quite a few positives on the horizon now the squad is beginning to take shape.

Sigh! Here we go again. We increase testing and find more cases with false positives everywhere. Sturgeon ignores all of this and announces a limit of 6 people gathering indoors OR OUTDOORS including pubs and restaurants. New law on Monday. Bar staff have to wear masks but customers don't. Sporting events are exempt presumably because sports fans have some super-dooper resistance to either catching or spreading this thing. No logic. No consistency. No end game. No plan. No strategy. Just panic, panic and more panic. The utter farce continues. She should just do what she really wants to do and announce a full f**king lockdown again. After all, nobody is allowed to die in this bizarre world of hers.

What I don't get with some posters is their 'write off' attitude to any player that is maybe going to join us. Through the years we have taken quite a few players on who didn't set the heather on fire with the club they were with previously and they have proved to be good additions to the squad. If Erwin comes to Saints, he comes with a reasonable pedigree and it's down to the coaching staff to get the best out of him. There are unfound gem stones out there, picking the right one is never easy, but possible, in all walks of life.

Happy for Bairdy signing for Ayr United. Good move for him as I think Brian Reid my mistake. Its Mark Kerr who is in charge is their gaffer a decent Centre back himself. Morton fans on Twitter are spitting feathers. They thought it was nailed on his was joining them.

Best decision all round. Leaving him scunnered on the bench while everyone else is likely to get a game before him was only going to destroy his confidence. Wasn't a bad defender, but distribution was probably the weakest part of his game. Hope he gets a decent gig.

Fact is the team selection shape tactics etc was all so wrong yet Jim Jim seemed very reluctant to admit his error of judgement Baird should have been a direct replacement for big Joe and should certainly have come on for the injured Fraser wholesale positional changes cost us leaving the players confused to the extreme.Big big improvements required I am afraid we look to be lacking the necessary quality to have a good season.
  47. 6 points
Let’s get one thing straight - we have not had a good start to the season. Most will acknowledge that we were fortunate to win the games we did against some of the weakest teams in the league. Apart from Sevco, we have still to play the stronger teams and our only glimmer of hope is that Magennis and Flynn return soon and that the new signings help to make a difference. Yes we are comparatively strong in defence but our midfield has been consistently overrun in every game so far. Tactically we are as negative as any team in the league. Let’s hope things improve drastically within the next few games, otherwise we will be heading back to the Championship.

I sense the break has come at the perfect time for us after today's performance. Goodwin got his starting formation wrong, and from then on seemed to tinker with the team for the rest of the afternoon. Injuries didn't help matters, but that isn't the reason we lost. We were disjointed from back to front and severely missed a calm head in central midfield.
