  3. Looking at the BBC today has left me questioning the long-term sustainability of full-time Scottish football. Considering recent events some of the "football" decisions are a little shortsighted. The implosion of Scottish football (armageddon?) never happened. We can survive... But all of our clubs need to be prudent....or part-time football surely beckons. I don`t claim to be an economist but I do wonder what kind of people are running Scottish football clubs. For example, from today`s news: 1. Rangers signing Danny Wilson. RFC reportedly on the brink again. Tangled up with Ashley. Leaving an SPFL club for the Championship. It`s Rangers...I get it...but they must be offering him a big contract in return. High risk... 2. Kilmarnock giving a three year contract to Jamie MacDonald. A 3 year deal seems excessive to me.... That is a long term investment in an average player. High risk... I understand how frustrating it is to sit around waiting for a new manager and new players. But I`d rather SMFC didn`t follow suit and made deals only that make financial sense to us. If Gow is all we can afford then that must be our reality.....1 year deals make sense to me. Low risk is what makes sense to me.

  9. We have no idea what is going on behind the scenes around new players so no new players does not mean no activity. I have to say I am surprised at the players Rangers and Falkirk have brought in......oh wait, they have still to do so. We have over 6 weeks before aball is kicked in earnest. Have faith in the new manager.

  18. Dylan Pooler was released just before the end of the season, he started 18 games scored 14 goals was the top scorer for the U20's. He can play anywhere upfront or as a number 10. He has played numerous times for Scotland at U15/16/17, he was also on the bench for the 1st team last season. Last season he missed a lot of games due to him making way for older players trying to get fit ie Paul Cairney, Lee Miller, N'goo, was playing very well when released, nearly all Killie fans I have spoken to were shocked as I was when he was released. I have heard this too from a very reliable source ie him coming to Saints

They did ask for my input the season following the LC winning kit. Like it or loathe it, the fluorescent yellow third kit with black shorts was my idea, as was doing the club crest on it in a single colour. JD Sports were keen on the idea as they were confident they could do a nice vibrant yellow. Apparently the players liked that kit.Don't think it's any secret that I volunteered my services to do graphic work for REA during the 10000hours process, and part of that two-way benefit to us was that he got graphics done and he listened to my ideas for a simple traditional home kit which subsequently saw me design all three kits (and fulfil a lifetime ambition!). It also saw the HoF panels see the light of day, and the big circle graphics on the South and North stands. We had other ideas on the go, but when his association with the club ended, so did my graphics involvement. That's the way it goes, had a nice wee run at it though! Edit: I couldn't have done any better than what the Fan Council and JD Sports have just done for this coming season. That's already one of my favourite St Mirren strips ever. Simple, smart, clean... Black & White, nae' yellow... Belter.

  24. Ok boys and girls, although my idea of taking a table for the season didn't fly I'm still up for trying to organise a table for hospitality for B&W Army, one before Christmas and one after. Thinking of the Queen of the South game on December 5th as being a good one initially, just before the big festive party season begins. This is a Cat C game so is available at £75 for season ticket holders which is the all inclusive drinks, meal, half time stuff, and post match bar. Basically way this would work would be that you would pay my company (£75) and we would in turn then pay St.Mirren for the whole lot. At this point I just need to know how many would be interested and how many places you would want. Once I have numbers I'd then reserve the places and start the process of collecting the money before then confirming the whole thing by paying CK. Probably looking to have the whole thing booked and paid for by end of August. So, let me know please if you are interested at this stage. ps; Of course if you would prefer to book your own place direct with the club and pay them direct that is also absolutely fine and we can ask that you are joined on to the B&W Army table(s) Registered Interest (9) As at 08:27 26/06 Div Callum Gilhooley smfc_spec_1877 (x2) JJ McG saintargyll davidg (booking himself) AdMitchell donport

    Fixtures Released

BT Sports will most likely cover us within their 12 match Championship remit, Alba would be more inclined if there were more Highland interests in the league and I'm hearing BBC Scotland 'may' be upping the ante in terms of the Championship too...

    First Team Squad

I had a long conversation with Stevie Aitken last night in the suite , plenty of interesting wee snippets from him. Dunfermline and Dumbarton spoke to Stranraer about his availability but e had heard we were interested too , he would have loved to have come to us mainly because of the set-up and potential we have. He was offered the Dunfermline job on a one-year deal but turned it down , mainly because he couldn't give up his job outside the game for a one year deal. Says that he got the feeling that our BOD were quite happy to be relegated given the opposition in the league next season , he says they also expect us to be in the Championship for a few seasons. He says he doesn't know the guy Spalding who'll be Murray's assistant but there were raised eyebrows at Dumbarton when he got the job here , he said it's very much a Longwell type of appointment ie no experience with full time players at our level. He can't believe how much £ has been made available to him a Dumbarton , he signed Darren Barr yesterday and just missed out on Frazer Wright , who signed yesterday for another year on reduced wages at Perth . Remit is 8th place , but could do better than that !

Morton has always been our derby as far as my Saints supporting life is concerned. Kilmarnock's derby is Ayr United. St Mirren v Killie and St Mirren v Partick are just games against geographically close rivals.

East Fife and Dumbarton both have more major titles than Morton. Is there still potential for big gates down there? What you basing that on? In the heat of their title battle with Partick Thistle 2 seasons ago they were still pulling in sub 2000 gates at Cappielow. In the crucial run in games at the end of their title winning season just past, 2 of Morton's final 3 home games had sub 2000 gates. For a bit of perspective, the meaningless Accies v St Mirren game had 2400 and our final home games against Well and Killie both had over 3000. Morton's years in the wilderness - they haven't played in the top flight for going on 30 years and haven't played in a major semi final for even longer - has clearly killed a lot of their support down there. Perhaps if they'd invested in better facilities they wouldn't have had such embarrassingly low crowds... They may have been a relatively similarly sized club to us one day, they aren't anymore, however you want to measure it.

Loan player are what got us into the mess we were in this season, we had loads and they were all mediocre at best. I'd rather limit the loan signings to one or two.
