Gordon should have been all over this forum, just like REA was. The official club forum is on life support, this place is the main St Mirren fan forum / means of communication. If the soundbites being issued are along the lines of a 'blitz' to get those of us already signed up to persuade more folk to do likewise - then Gordon should, along with the SMiSA leadership, be all over it like a rash. I find his Howard Hughes-esque demeanour at this 'vital' juncture with numbers not near 1000 somewhat puzzling.

I've already made reference to Gordon not being an accomplished public speaker type, and that was evidenced at the last public meeting. I'm fine with that. The fewer Charles Green types in the mix the better, as far as I'm concerned. I do think we could do with hearing a more strategic plan, however. Our aims over the next five years would be a, b, c, and d, for example. Reassuring, and not too difficult, I wouldn't have thought.

I would suggest that the time to find out if the numbers are adding up is when the final figures of all 3 options are in and counted. Then one could say that the numbers didn't add up, to say now that the numbers don't add up is not an accurate statement. I for one feel more confident that the target number of sign ups will be, rather than not be, achieved.

They cannot make SMFC a not for profit as they are not buying all the shares in the company. Unless they do their responsibility as a board of smfc is still to all shareholders and not just smisa or GLS

I'm not interested in Gordon coming on here and subjecting himself to what you've described so well. I think he'd be off his head to do so. I'd rather he posted some ideas/plans on the SMISA website. I'm delighted Gordon is on board, but as I said earlier, the diehards have signed up. We're now into the individuals who need a bit more convincing to sign up than people like myself .

This is obviously Gordons' call, personally i wouldn't blame him for not coming on here, given the amount of abuse that the current board have been given on here and also that given to the 10k hours consortium, maybe Gordon has decided he does not want to come on here and answer questions and then receive that sort of reply, when what he is planning is going to be for the good of our club (which he has already stated it will be) Like i say i am convinced his motives are sound and will better our club, in fact i would be more concerned if he came on here promising this and that only for us to find that someone else has let him down and he couldn't fulfill that promise. I am happy that he has promised to further the fortunes of our club and that's all i need to know, i would be wary of any other promise from him which he made before taking over the reins, because until you know what you have and what you need to achieve from that then you can't go making promises. Gordon needs to be in the hot seat and find out what he has been left to deal with before he can tell what he needs to get us back up the leagues, any speculation made before then would be just that - speculation. I want him to get control and then show he can improve our fortunes. Just my view on the situation, nobody else has contributed to this view,

SMISA & GLS have give Saints fans a fantastic opportunity for the club to be owned by the fans. I have faith that my fellow Buddies will grasp this chance as we approach the deadline and sign up. Yes it is a bit of a leap of faith, however I hope, pray and believe that after careful consideration people will come to the conclusion that this is the best way forward.

I recall David Barron turning down a 3 year contract offer from us on the advice of his agent. This was the season after he won player of the year. His agent promised him a much better deal elsewhere, he then suffered a bad injury which he never really fully recovered. Had he signed the contract that we had offered him he would have had 3 years security with an option of us selling him on. His agent effectively screwed him.

I've got a photo of the Scottish Cup in our front room on the Sunday morning the day after we won it. Just before club officials hurriedly came to collect it for the open top bus tour, once they had found out where the cup had spent the night. I'll need to take a photo of a photo though, even if I can find it.

A very simple thing we said at 10000hours was that if we had control of the board room then any SPL vote that was of the special nature that required an 11/1 vote we would poll all 10000hour members rather than it just being the decision of the board. Stuff like this is a very simple strategic goal that is deliverable and very easily communicates in 10000hours case that we were serious about fan consultation. The SMISA bid does not need to give a big plan out just some actual deliverables that the operation can be judged on if successful. The reality is numbers will drop unless targets set now are met.

Well handily I can answer that. SMISA are using the same system the 10000hours did...in fact so did FoH and RF. I will confirm the exact numbers when next at my desk but we had a DD of individual members whose bank details we had of well over 1000. ( I think 1103 ) we then had our community members (@ £500 each) think we had 35 and then Club numbers at £3000 each which IIRC we had 42. The only database that was not through the system which I had was the international sign ups as GC did not do overseas at the time again IIRC had 130 members. So overall our members database (actual real members not guys paying double membership fees and being counted twice) was in the region of 1300. We certainly did not take a £600 pm donation and count it as 60 members. I personally think there have been some very good aspects of the bid organisation from SMISA..but also some bits that could be much better. Just like my own bid there were bits we were very good at and bits that if I could do again I would do entirely differently. I suspect the SMISA guys already know their strengths and weaknesses and what they would also do differently if they had their time again

Might be worth mentioning to your friends and family - this buyout bid is not just (though mainly is) about getting control of SMFC this is also about getting control of our wonderful facilities and opening them up for the good of our whole community. Schools, social clubs, nurseries, tenants/residents associations etc., can all benefit from our facilities. And i assure you i will be representing low cost (or no cost) access to the Paisley 2021 stadium for the good of all our community and beyond. You don't have to be a saints supporter to sign up. SMiSA are currently working on plans to go out and engage with our community - let us know if we can help with anything you have in mind.

Leaving the cast of Westworld aside, did the 10000hours bid achieve the required amount of rank and file sign ups, and was the whole bid process, despite false starts and at least one re-boot far more visible and pro-active than what we've seen so far from SMiSA/GLS? The answers are 'yes' and 'yes'. Anyone disagree with that?

To be fair, given the history of this site, Gordon posting on here is exactly the type of thing that draws out the type of poster you're describing. Maybe there could be a section on SMISA's website where questions could be asked for Gordon to reply to.

The agent was un-named by Rae, so he's hardly going to be raging about it. The agent may realise he shouldn't mess around with Alex, or possibly there is not much of a story here at all: an un-named agent offered 2 un-named players to St Mirren and then they signed for another un-named club in an un-named league... good luck with checking out the details on that one!

Note the date of the thread. Around the time we won the League Cup. I came across it, if you will, when I was snooping around that forum reading the Hibs reaction to Hearts losing the final to us at the time. However, I had to do a bit of a dodgy Google to find it again, of course. That forum was absolute comedy gold in the wake of that final. There was all sorts of proper laugh out loud stuff on there. A Photoshop contest then broke out when someone managed to get a (genuine) picture of the open topped bus that Hearts had organised to parade the trophy in.

Every time fans speak to someone else about the bid it helps get more sign ups. I myself spoke to someone yesterday and asked if he had signed up or was going to, after just that small conversation he stated he would sign up. This is the best way to get folk signed up - speak to them personally. As shown in the SMiSA reply in the above tweet, Gordon will be asked to speak out and hopefully expand on the information about his promise to get more people on board to maximise income and therefore get us moving up the leagues, what that would include i don't know. I know he has promised to further the fortunes of our club and i believe he will, that's good enough for me, obviously he needs to work on others to get them on board with the bid.

    Alex Rae Latest Signings Update

How exactly are agents evil? Are the players supposed to do all the contract negotiations themselves? And quickly build a network of contacts to get themselves a new club when they find themselves out of work? I'm sure you can imagine how most negotiations between a 19 year old kid and a multi-million pound business would go. Before agents, and improved workers rights, clubs would make millions buying and selling players while paying them a pittance. Players would be tied down to a club and even if they were unhappy, would be forced to play there for as long as that company required them to. I would say the problem here is Alex Rae getting angry, falling out with agents and then complaining about it on the radio! We seem to hear the same story from every St Mirren manager, "it's not my fault, it's the players/agents/other clubs". Part of being a St Mirren manager will be dealing with the disappointment of missing out on signing targets. We need a manager who can work within our means but the sell the club as best as possible to up and coming young players. Mind you, if I was building a squad around Roco Quinn and David Clarkson, I would be starting to get worried at this point too!

I understand that there's an issue re clarity over some elements of the business plan - ideas on how additional revenues are brought in, ways to further engage with the community etc - but I think the key element of the 'Buy the Buds' bid is that the fans are able to query these things, and participate in the discussion. I'm not sure that I understand the thinking that any lack of clarity on these issues should lead to the bid not being supported. Members can push SMISA/GS/the new BoD on these issues from a position of increased strength IF the bid is successful. If the bid isn't successful, and the BoD end up selling to a businessman/consortium, then I'm sure that they'll be happy to make promises about business plans, footballing ambition, improved facilities, fan and community engagement and tell us all what they think we want to hear, but they'll end up doing whatever suits them and I doubt if they'll bother too much about listening to fans or the community. That may be a generalisation, but it's based upon the experiences of a significant number of clubs across the UK over the past 10-20 years.

I completely disagree with that summary mate. The current board have run the club superbly well as a business ever since they took over. You only need to look at other absolute basket cases of clubs in Scotland to appreciate what they have done for us. The independent report that SMiSA commissioned to value the club has also concluded that the club was very well run. There are a few reasons why the club hasn't been sold but it being poorly run is certainly not one of them.
