    SMISA Board Rep Elections

I don't think it's a route we should go down IMHO, plenty of great fans over the years who are sadly no longer with us. We shouldn't single out individuals who are no longer with us, we're all in the buddies family and we've all lost someone who we consider great fans. Where do we stop? Guys like Tam McGarry and Toshie should definitely be remembered in some way though. A small memorial garden or something similar could be created to remember all fans who we've lost over the years. we've plenty of room and would brighten the place up. Suppose the brick kinda does that just now?

    World Mental Health Day

Today is World Mental Health Day. Take time to ask even just one person if they are ok and need a chat. You never know, you might be helping one person open up and start someone on their road to recovery. Blokes are a nightmare at opening up and discussing "feelings".

I drove down from Arrochar on Saturday picked up 2 mates and went to Easter Road.On the journey through we talked about attending this game as it was only the irn bru bar cup.It mattered not a jot when we seen our team fighting and scrapping for every ball.Winning was so important for team spirit and i,m sure we will be out the traps with a new found gusto on Saturday against United. I,m fired up for this one and the drive down from Arrochar will be a different one from Saturday past.I,m buzzing for this one. Come on you Saints.

May i suggest that Tam McGarry is named as a director posthumously for a season in recognision of his contribution to our club. His wife is continuing his SMISA membership and as a founder member of the 1877 club and one of our greatest ever fans i feel it would be a fitting tribute.

Personally I believe David Nicol deserves to be given the next year in the role and he's just finding his feet. Although - I feel strongly we should have another member as well.

    SMISA Board Rep Elections

I can think of several people that are no longer with us that were devout but quiet fans their entire life. There is a guy that sits behind me in his 80's who has been attending games since he was a boy. His son drives him to home games and all away games that he is fit to attend. But I doubt if 99% of fans even know he exists. The planned memorial garden and the 'bricks' are decent outlets for Remembrance.

Great idea indeed. I would like to include my Dad, Uncle and also my Grandfather as Directors posthumously also. Outstanding St Mirren supporters along with many others, sadly not with us.

    SMISA Board Rep Elections

Agreed Drew. I however believe that anyone that's putting themselves forward should have to do so at a meeting of SMISA members where they speak and give the reasons that they should be appointed to the board. That way people who don't know the person concerned can listen and make an informed decision. Just because Joe Blogs is a nice guy and goes to all the games doesn't automatically qualify for board membership.

How about in time once the 1877 club opens to everyone, which it will do at some point, that the bar is manned by fans on a volunteer basis. Ask for fans interested to commit there names and depending on uptake you can establish a rota whereby folks might end up doing 1 or 2 games a season. One individual could run the whole shooting match or a small committee of peeps. Just a random idea but would surely save the club a fair few bob and make the whole operation far more profitable. Every penny helps. What about if the club organised a list / database of local businesses that are owned / run by st mirren fans. I feel this would be a great idea and really embrace the whole local community, we are in it together feel. If you are looking to get some work done about the house, get your car serviced, mortgage advice or anything really. I know I would always love to give that business to a fellow buddies fan than a large faceless organisation. Just a wee idea but feel there is loads of mileage in it and would be a great link to have on the official website ie 'buddie good business' or 'back a buddies business'. Just a couple of random thoughts. Will get it on the wall sometime soon. :-)

Talk about damning with faint praise. Rae might have assembled, on paper, a decent squad, but that makes it all the more of an indictment that he couldn't get them to perform for him. Something that the caretaker manager seemed to achieve to a reasonable degree with just three matches in charge. Whichever way you dress it up, Rae failed miserably this season, and had us sitting in a lower position than Murray did in what is, arguably, an easier league this term. Anyway, it is your digs at Gordon Scott in this thread that strike me as particularly odd. The chairman and his colleagues on the BoD had a decision to make. Few of us are complaining that he made it, and we move on. Perhaps you should.

    Challenge Cup

In the spirit of raising suggestions - it might be beneficial if the club highlighted games that have a possibility of being changed due to possible fixture clash with a cup competition. Perhaps with those fixtures in italics on the programme fixture list, with a footnote reference to a reasonably sized message box with a relevant warning. I know that this is relative 'small fry' compared to the bigger restructuring and cash generating issues we are trying to solve through these suggestions, but it would be another indicator that the club takes communicaiton with the fans seriously - and that seems to be one of the aims of the new board. Especially when it helps fans avoid wasted advance travel ticket costs, or potentially getting stiffed £100 plus for accomodation due to a re-arranged away fixture.

On Saturday 15 October I am taking along my Grand daughter, her boyfriend and an Abu Dhabi young man, all of whom are studying at Strathclyde. I also hope to have my elder son and my grandson there. My younger son will be there if back from a family holiday. Who can you take along or persuade to come along? Irrespective of the result, this is a new St Mirren. (By the way my grand daughter's middle name is Mirren ).

I admire your defence of Rae DOB however I think you are letting Rae off lightly. GS made a statement when he took over about entertaining football that is a joy to watch and talked about how important it was for the Academy to produce players in a conveyor belt to the first team. Rae's comment's when he was appointed, and I am ad-libbing here, and to quote Shull 'tippy-tappy shite' when referring to the U20's would immediately have put him at odds with what GS wanted for the Club. There was a huge difference of philosophy and direction from Day 1 when Rae publicly stated he did not believe in the way the U20's played. Many would argue the U20's are far more entertaining (and successful) than the first team. I noticed today that Allan McManus will now be involved with the first team training as well as the U20's so all the players and coaches are singing from the same hymn sheet. That was never the case with Rae as the U20s and first team were playing totally different brands of football.

    SMISA Board Rep Elections

Back on topic. I think a lot of people will struggle to have a strong opinion on who should be voted onto the board. I'd like to see the current SMISA board and possibly GLS come make the decision between them. I'd trust this decision initially. After their 2 years are up the SMISA members vote based on performance to re-elect or nominate a fresh board member. I love the fact we get a say but I would struggle to vote on someone based on a CV. SMISA board have done a decent job so far, I'd trust them to put the right man in the chair.

What a bizarre thread, and, it has to be said, some thoroughly puzzling musings from DoP. You seem to have a bee in your bonnet, if not an axe to grind, mate, and it's becoming a tad Dicksonesque in its delivery.

    SMISA Board Rep Elections

Re: your above posts, those points are addressed as part of the nomination process, so all interested parties will have the opportunity to read up on the candidates. I think it would be a sign of a healthy, forward looking society (1877 Society) if there are a few people who put themselves forward as a candidate.

I expect Ross & Fowler to get us our first league win of the season this saturday. The groundwork regarding changing our playing style to a more passing game has been successfully done by Alam Mc. With 'Bombscare Webster' out the team, Baird and Mc Kenzie will crack on, Naismith is getting his confidence back, Hutton has started to play, and when we make a change like Clarkson & Shankland at Easter Road, we really put pressure on the opposition. get this home win in the bag and everything will look, and feel better! You missed actreat to see the players faces at the end against Hibs... they looked like the world had just been lifted off their shoulders. COYS..!

Caught brief extracts from radio as don't have Sky etc and sounded like Scotland were lucky to draw. Then heard post match interview with Strachan who is a very rude man. Cannot understand why he gets such an easy ride from the press , probably because he lives in England I suppose and scarpers after each game. Not in the least concerned or surprised by the latest failure from a bunch of players, many of whom don't even have the decency to represent their own country and instead deny real Scots the chance of pulling on the blue jersey. Just as an aside, do others wonder why we in Scotland are able to watch Italy v Spain, England v Malta and even tonight Holland v France on tv, but are denied the chance to watch our own country ? That sums up the SFA.

I'd hope David puts his name up for election. At this moment I think continuity is important and he seems to have gelled well with the rest of the board. I do also think though that there will hopefully be some outstanding candidates and maybe this will lead to more than one being elected on to the board.

Good thread, I think the board should also use this game as springboard, I'm talking a rake of school tickets, discount in adult tickets to say £10-£15 pound. Perhaps a ST holder bring a friend thing, an open doors day at the 1877 bar where yer match tickets get's you entry numbers permitting. Get the new manager and some players out and about one or two afternoons with a few balls Fergie style, talk to the locals encourage them to come along. The BOD and commercial department ought to be working overtime to ensure we get folk through the turnstyles. Then in front of a full house play like a team, get our first league win and booom we are back.

It's time for all Saints fans to forget the negativity and get down to the ground and cheer the team on. New management team in place and hopefully the start of better times for us long suffering fans. We can make a difference and it would be magic to get the place rocking again - players need to give us something to shout about though and I reckon Jack is the man to get them motivated COYS !

So where do you stand on Rae publicly saying his tactics were not to blame for our losses but errors from senior players... Players he signed? Why have our performances improved with a change of tactics if they were nor a contributory factor at least?
  39. 2 points
I received a reply from the ticket office which might throw light on things and which I consider to be very helpful and will take advantage off to support the New St Mirren Board, Manager and Reborn Players. Morning Ricky Thank you for your enquiry. We can certainly offer you a season ticket at any time within the year– the current cost for a Concession Season Ticket starting from the Dundee United game would be £120 for a normal seat or £165 for a padded seat. Alternatively, you could wait until the half-season tickets are released in late November/early December. You would need to be allocated a seat, in a stand of your choice, as our ticketing/turnstile system does not allow for unallocated seating of season ticket holders. We could put you in an area that has space around about it so that if your friends/family are coming there should be seats available. If you wish to go ahead with tickets, please note that we will need to see proof that the student is in full-time education during 2016/17. I look forward to hearing from you. Regards Lynn Watson Club Secretary

Since Alex Rae was shown the door there has been an improvement a steady improvement on the park which is the most important part of the club. Communication has improved also so I can't understand why you are getting your pants in a twist over GLS ?

I have, but nope I won't be putting myself forward. As I said in the summer apart from the fact no-one would be likely to vote for me, I also work nightshift and that would make it difficult to attend meeting etc. I'll be voting for the candidate who pledges to focus particularly on developing club links to the community

Away on a family holiday but passing my season tickets onto Celtic supporting brother in law and my wee nephew who plays for St Mirren. They are both looking forward to it. :-) Very disappointed not to be attending but excited by the new regime and can see a real upturn in the vibe amongst the fans in the stands. Less worse times are just round the corner. :-) I think we might win this one. :-)

Judging by the Chico's comments on the radio yesterday, I think he's worked out he won't be getting a padded seat from the new regime. Story here from the Renfrewshire Greens backing the raised platform. All good PR: https://renfrewshiregreens.wordpress.com/2016/10/09/greens-praise-smisa-funding/ Sarah Anderson, candidate for the Scottish Greens at the upcoming council elections, said: “As a disabled activist and a member of the supporters’ association, I was thrilled to see that the first vote was to ensure disabled members of our club and community would be able to better enjoy our sport. The members voted in vast numbers disabled people will soon benefit from enhanced facilities as a result of fans owning their own club. This not only demonstrates how vital fan ownership is for raising issues which matter to fans, but the sheer numbers of Buddies who voted displays how important St. Mirren is to the local community. I’m looking forward to seeing more votes and many more benefits for members as a result of fan ownership.”

It is an unbalanced squad , that's been obvious since before the window closed. Thankfully GLS realises that too , and has duly apologised for the shambles to the incoming management team . The fact that GLS also mentioned last midweek that new faces would arrive in January at the expense of some who are in the current squad may well have shaken the slackers into life yesterday !

New owner comes in and inherits a manager from the old regime. If the manager isn't cutting the mustard, as Rae certainly wasn't, then there is always going to be a low threshold for a sacking. Maybe Chick could get his consortium back together to save us from impending doom.
