Thoroughly enjoyed that, flew in at 2pm or so and got checked in at the Abbey Inn and dug the scarf, the wooly hat and the big jacket out before getting a lovely feed and a pint or two. A bloody cold rainy Tuesday night in Paisley, a pie and bovril and a 5 goal extravaganza. Perfect!

Thought it was going to be a long night for Dumbarton when I saw McGinn retrieving the ball from the net after the first goal! Fantastic performance. Special word for Ryan Flynn who's added a bit of class. He had an absolutely sublime touch to get away from his man for the first goal and then a lovely pass through for Reilly's in the second half.

For me his penalty save v United in the televised Friday night game was the moment I thought we can go on and win the league

How good was that save last night?

Virtually pishin ma breeks with excitement about this trip. One more day in the hell hole I call work, then it’s up to Sneck on Friday wi ma auld mucker Jimmy H. Some casual beveraging will be undertaken on the Friday evening in welcoming hostelries such as the Glenalbyn, Gellions, Lauders and if our old quintigenarian bones (not boners) are up to it, maybe finish the night off in Johnny Fox’s. Up on Saturday for a sturdy breakfast and in the boozer by lunch time for a few sedate pre match cocktails. Then head to watch our glorious Buddies take one step further towards inevitable glory, whilst exercising my vocal chords alongside our highly venerated drum major and his accomplished boy band. When the final whistle sounds (shortly after our 6th goal), clap off our heroes and then high tail it back to the Gellions for a veritable extravaganza of traditional Scottish folk in the hands of the magnificent Schiehallion (the lead singer big Kenny is a Sons fan so banter may be had). An appropriate amount of scoopage to follow which will hopefully result in an early finish and avoid ending up in establishments not suited for auld codgers such as oorgidsels. Sunday up and into the hire car for a wee tour of my beloved west coast. Down to Torridon for elevensies and then a wee trip round the Applecross peninsula. Langoustines for lunch at the Applecross Inn and then down the splendid Bealach na Ba. From there doon to Glen Shiel (tipping the bunnet to Eilean Donan Castle on the way passed). Stop for a quick beer at Kintail Lodge before completing the circuit back to Sneck. A few contemplative bevvies on Sunday night before heading home on Monday. Carlsberg.......weekends.......you do the rest. Can you tell I’m excited??

Another great performance form one of our league cup winning heroes last night I would hate to be the person who started this thread as I would hate to look so damned stupid, so damned stupid indeed

There were no failures and quite a few standouts last night. Smith got MotM and his all round link play was exceptional. I thought Magennis had a superb game in the middle, and playing alongside Flynn and McGinn. I am excited at the development possibilities of young Magennis given our coaching teams recent record.

A mate was sitting next to his mum and dad at recent game at Cappielow and they were saying just how much Sammy is loving his football and life at St Mirren at the moment. An excellent keeper and having a terrific season. Keep up the good work Sammy!

Not only have his performances been excellent, he is one of the senior and most experienced players in the squad. He provides a lot of leadership on the park and you can also see that he is loving this season. His pen save against Dundee Utd this season was as important as his pen save in the LC semi v Celtic.

His save at 2-0 last night was remarkable. Samson has done little wrong this season, and, as others have suggested, he is a bit of an unsung hero.

Top Cat referred to Mullen's goal as a 'tap in'. It certainly wasn't that - it was a very neat finish that he tucked away superbly.

Just home. Not a happy man. In that second half, Davis hit a backpass way too hard, putting Samson under pressure to clear. Not nearly good enough. Get it sorted. I won’t be back.

Another thread ruined by the same twat - Sorry but I have skipped over about 7 pages to get here... Honestly stop engaging with him and the improvement in the forums will be huge..... We are all allowed an opinion, but constantly trying to push it or justify something as ridiculous as saying Sammy is rubbish is so very sad... (desperate) I don't know any team in any league that finishes with the top or 2nd best defensive record; with any of their back 5, including the goalie, being rubbish - it is not possible.. None of our players are the best in the world, but we have players in every position that are better than virtually every other player in the Championship... (with a very few exceptions)... That is why we will be Champions so very soon...

Another fantastic performance by our superb team. Great to see the goals being shared around too. Especially pleased to see Gavin scoring again after a wee dry spell. Morgan's two goals were real class. I was in the West Stand, directly behind his first effort. What a sweet stroke to curl it in! Shows what this lad does for our team. Don't know how we're going to replace him. Dumbarton clearly down and tired after their exertions at the weekend, but the mark of champions is to be relentless, as JR said in his post-match interview. This result just confirms to the other teams in the league that we are not going to falter in the run-in. Could have the title wrapped up by the time we go to Brechin. Can hardly believe where we are considering where we were at the end of last season. Just deliriously happy for the team, the management and all Saints fans! COYS!!

I think Ryan Flynn and Danny Mullen have been superb signings. Flynn is a quick smart player. And Mullen is like Reilly a pain in ass for big defenders. Got good quality on the bench as well now. Coys

Very good. Lucky to have him. For me , he has been one of the most consistent performers for us this season. I'm glad he's got another year on his contract to go. I'd give him an extension as he's more than merited it.

Early goals helped, great save from Samson at 2-0 also. 2 great strikes from Morgan. Well worked goal finished off by Mullen. Should've had more but never really looked like we had to work too hard and still won 5-0 against a team that's usually quite stuffy. If carlsberg did awkward midweek games on awful nights in poor conditions.

Samson - The Modern Day Les Fridge

I wasn't too keen on the signing of Samson at the time, and I was even less keen after he let in a couple of soft goals against Dundee in pre season, but since then he has proven me and any other doubters emphatically wrong. He's been fantastic this season, the best keeper in the league by a country mile. You see the performances from guys we could have had, like Ridgers, Alexander, Martin, Gallagher, Thomson, etc and you realise just how lucky we are to have him. He's been worth a lot of points this season. One of Ross's best signings.

LPM really loves pressing home the fact that he doesn't like Danny Mullen because that was his opinion of him from the off. This despite the fact that Mullen has been excellent in the last 3 games for us. I'd love to keep Reilly. I dare say neither he nor Danny Mullen will be our first choice out-and-out centre forward option next season, though.

Unfortunately this Saturday I've been invited to a 70th birthday outing at Musselburgh racecourse. He hits his three score and ten on Friday so perhaps God will take him and that'll let me be on my way to Inverness. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Correct. He is 100% responsible. Had it not been for that save we'd have ended at 6. So aye, sole credit.

It doesn't really matter that much, Andy, but it's a bonus if it is pretty ETA - on reflection, I'm not having that. At 2-0 up, Samson pulled off an outstanding save. It wasn't just a save, it was a superb save. That warrants pointing out, so I reckon the fact that Mullen's wasn't a 'tap in' equally warrants highlighting. Or, to put it another way....

That really was a top, top performance from start to finish. Every single player from Samson through to Mullen up front were excellent . The subs also played their part when they came on. That Livi defeat now looks like a blessing in disguise, as our form since then has been brilliant. We're on our way.

Putting this jovial banter to one side for a moment... I just watched the "Bubble Didinae Burst" video on the you tube. By jove I recall it like it was yesterday and by the last ten minutes I was punchng the air and I finished with a lump in my throat and a wee tear in my eye. A similar lump and tear combo will appear when we are once again confirmed as league champions. A few of the many memories from that wonderful season, Scott Walker sprinting the full length of Cappielow to head a goal, young Steven McGarry scoring a stoating belter away at Livingston, Junior Mendes winner away at Raith Rovers, playing in the strips of a lower class team, Hugh Murray's juggle ball goal V the Bankies, actually playing against the Bankies, Paul McKnight's winner away at Ayr, Jens Paeslack before he stole the watch and that day we won it V Raith at Love Street with goals from Mark Yardley, Steven McGarry and Barry McLaughlin. The aftermatch celebration with Steven McGarry and Ricky Gillies sporting tearfilled eyes. Memories we all shall cherish......let us cherish this one as well, for many younger Buds this will be new to them. Enjoy it indeed.

Looking forward to the highlights. Delighted for the team. With United’s collapse we are only 4 points away from securing 2nd (just adding that comment for completness - can’t see anything other than the title now - we could prob win it without picking up another point!) Devastated personally as sudden illness (it hit me at 1730 as getting ready to leave house) stopped me and the boy attending. After he heard the score I don’t think he will forgive me for getting sick! All notes of sympathy or GIRUY are welcome
