  1. Dibble, your relentless efforts to demean the manager are really disappointing. You, and BTB, are decent posters but the tedious posts reflecting a dislike, no matter what, for Stubbs are piss poor. There's a small band who are of a similar view but they are dim and always look on the doom scenario season after season. I did start a thread saying people had made their minds up about Stubbs as soon as he was named, I didn't think you would be on that bus.

  2. By "chased Gavin Reilly away" you mean "couldn't force him to sign the contract he'd been sitting on for a month"? Here's an idea - why not give the manager you backing instead of finding fault with every single thing he does or doesn't do? It'll be a stretch, but give it a try. Pretend you want him to do well.

  3. Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be. As an old fart I can’t imagine loving the “new” place. Entering through a vomitary has nothing on climbing the slope up to the North Bank. Midweek games crammed against thousands of buds trying to identify players under the dimmest of floodlights are some of my strongest memories of the 60s/70s. Still I appreciate many new fans (as in younger) have an affectation towards our Lego land stadium and fair play to them. I’m sure I’m not the only fan who still says I’m going to “Love Street” on Saturday.

Doesn't matter a jot. Contracts mean next to f**k all unless we are buying as an investment with an intent to sell at a profit. Don't know why people get bothered about it, living in the past.

  6. Aw diddums. You’ll be missed. In fact, I’m not at all sure the club will survive without your dedicated support. They’ll probably put one of those messages on the scoreboard at half time. Please come back Dibble. We need you. Watch the door doesn’t hit you on the vagina on the way out.

If you criticise anything you're a Stubbs hater, if you praise anything you're a happy clapper and if you make a reasoned argument then your post is too long and you've bored people, it's bloody hard to be a contributer to this forum.

    Kenny Miller Free Agent

Last season Miller played only the equivalent of 16 games for Rangers in all competitions, with 5 goals and 5 assists. That ratio, extrapolated over a 38 game league season would lead to 23 goal involvements, be it goals or assists. Given he's probably unlikely to play every minute of every game, it would still equate to probably 15 goal involvements. I don't think he's as past it as some are saying. Would certainly contribute if given the opportunity, over the course of a season.

  13. Stephen McGinn doesn't strike me as a daft wee boy so I can't imagine his nose being out of joint. I would think he would welcome the experience, drive and desire that Miller would bring. Remember we're talking about a guy that has 69 Scotland caps, 18 Scotland goals. Has played for Celtic, Rangers (3 times), Premiership and Championship spells in England with Wolves, Derby and Cardiff. St. Mirren don't often get guys like that - even in the twilight of their career. He looks in excellent physical shape and to maintain that to his age is a great example to youngsters. He's precisely the type of figure we need around the team at the moment. There's always a risk that it's a season too far for players as they get older but I'd be willing to take that risk on Miller.

Splitting hairs, now. Rather than focus on the quantative element, why not consider the contribution these guys made to the respective clubs. Surely that is the point. Anything else seems pretty academic. If a player fits the bill, is happy to play for Saints, and makes a positive contribution, I couldn't really give two shits what is written on a bit of paper somewhere.

Rangers had 7 loans last year 4 this year, Celtic had 4 last year they are two of the biggest teams in the country with budgets where they can go out and buy players. Aberdeen also had 6 last year But seemingly to some we are too good for loanees.

  22. I wasn't at all for Miller at the start of the window and was relieved he went to Livi as I felt he'd do more damage there than good with us. However, given the way this window has gone, the obvious deficiencies in the squad, the lack of viable striking options and the energy Miller can still bring, he's probably worth the risk. I'd still much rather we pushed the boat out and brought in Greg Stewart though.

  23. Aye true enough. Kenny Miller only scored against the likes of Italy, Germany, England, Croatia, Czech Rep etc. Shite really Take your point generally though. For even greater effect you could’ve used Kevin Kyle or Scott Dobie as an example. However, as a Scotland player, KM was the real deal so the argument is null and void.

  27. Loans or permanent signings ? Doesn’t make a whole lot of difference to me. Did Lewis Morgan play with any less application and ability when he became a loanee ? The only thing I would like to see is the continuation of players coming through our youth system .

Our original lights did indeed come from ib*ox.They were first used in the Scottish Cuo tie v Peebles Rovers in 1959.The biggest problem with lights was our proximity to Renfrew Airport meaning the height and brightness of them had to be kept to a minimum. No idea where the old lights went to.

    St. Mirren Park.

Nostalgia is a very powerful force. You remember the good times and put the bad times out your mind. The way people bang on about Love St you’d think it was some kind of footballing Mecca. If was a nice old stadium but it simply wasn’t fit for purpose. I remember several games were the attendance was under 2000 and there was no atmosphere at all due to the size of the place. The North Bank was uncovered at both sides and acted like a wind tunnel in a gale and you got rained on when you were having a piss. The main stand would be best described as a fire hazard. Our current stadium fits our needs far better. It’s modern, it’s smaller and as a result the atmosphere can be better (depending what’s happening on the pitch). Of course there will always be the old guard who say it was much better back in the good old days. There always is. I’m sure the Old Da’s said that back in the 1900’s about Westmarch when we first moved to Love St. We now have a generation of fans who have no memory of Love St. Their fond early footballing memories are being made at the new stadium and as such that’s where their attachment will be.

Makes no difference at all. A loan signing is pretty much the same as having a player on a 1 year deal. From the top of my head I think we’ve had more success with loan signings than regular signings in recent years. Goes without saying that the cup win wouldn’t have happened without Newton, Gonçalves and Dummett, all of whom were on loan. Also been less spectacular success stories in the shape of guys like Harry Davies, Cammy Smith, Rory Loy, Billy O’Brien and Liam Smith. A club like us should absolutely be signing as many players on loan as possible. Of course there will be some misses, but it’s a relatively low risk venture with the potential of uncovering a few diamonds.

Last time we had less than 4 loans in a season was 2011. Imo we have a much better chance with more loans than with permanent deals as certain loans we could be lucky to get in we would never be able to afford their full wage on a permanent deal. I’m not suggesting for a second we should go with a full squad of loanees as long as it doesn’t affect our academy players like permanent deals coming in then the amount doesn’t really bother me.

  39. Correct it is Stubbs job so let him get on with it stop bitching like so many others on here if that means he needs to rebuild for next season aswell then so be it he will be in a better position to get people on pre contracts next year that we missed the boat this year due to the manager situation. We are never a club that will go a season without some sort of rebuilding. Makes no difference if we sign players on 1 year loans or take gambles on free agents floating about just now on 1 year deals I’d rather Stubbs makes that judgement because it’s his job and managerial future that’s on the line. Loan signings have played a huge part in any success we’ve had in recent years yet some people still look at loans as a negative thing who care if it’s 2 or 10 if we get a successful season then it’s bloody worth it.

  45. I actually don't think Livi are better at building from the back, but I will agree that they seem to encourage a system that has tall, bustling players in the back 4 and when it comes to playing at the opposite end of the pitch, especially in set plays, they crowd the box with these tall players and hope to get something out of the panic that ensues. I actually don't mind it as a tactic, it is faintly amusing as it takes football back to yesteryear and tells me that in some cases not much has changed! Personally I don't see how that is 'building from the back'.

  46. IF we are in for him, and IF he actually signed, and IF he started against Ferrantibank, and IF he scored the winner.... I’d need to leave the ground and head straight to Matalan Linwood / Elderslie / Paisley / Mordor... for emergency underpants, as I’d have soiled the ones I went to the game in.

  47. Would be happy if Miller signs, just as I would have been before he went to Livi. Experienced striker who is an example to the younger players of how to take care of yourself and prolong your career. Intelligent, still fit as a fiddle and with a point to prove. A no brainer imo.

  50. Took my 6 and 4 year old girls to their first ever game in W2 on Saturday. Elder one initially didn't want to go, but at the full time whistle asked 'when's the next game ?' Brought a tear to my glass eye. And my mother was there too. Last saw Saints about 50 years ago ! She was cheering with the best of them. Rugby-loving kiwi wife is even starting to get it. COYS !
