Spare a thought for our goalies friend and former team mate "Czech International" Josef Sural. Killed in a crash in Turkey after a match. They played together at Slovan Liberec. Keep your chin up Vaclav.

You bid against the club, and cost them more money? Thereby wiping out all of the gains from the old firm in the south stand and the money stolen from SMISA

Too complex as Dundee no longer matter in terms of catching us. They won't win 3 on the spin and we won't lose 3 on the spin. Perfect scenario is: We win on Saturday, Dundee win against Accies. We win the following Monday. 10th secured before Dens.

Famous last words but I reckon Dundee are certs to finish bottom. 10th spot - Hamilton 60% Us 40% ******************** It is in our hands and as OK said a while back we've got to treat the remaining games like Cup Finals if we do we can still make 10th - COYS! It's a pity things were fucked up so badly last summer but thanks to the January clearout our form has improved dramatically over the past two months, the team spirit is good (3 games in a row we've come from behind) and with a full squad even if we end up in the play-offs I reckon we'll go in with a better frame of mind than most 11th placed teams would once again - COYS!

Monday night live on TV v Hamilton reminds me of Monday night live on TV in 2007 v Dunfermline in front of 10000. Nerves got the better of us that night and we lost 1-0 to a Tam McManus goal. Thankfully, we survived after the great comeback at Fir Park. I have no worries this time. We will beat Motherwell on Saturday and scud the Accies, a week on Monday. 10th it will be.

    The Oran Kearney Interviews Thread

For what it's worth i'm not arguing with anyone. Nor am I belittling what Jack Ross achieved with us. My opinion is that if OK keeps us up it is a bigger achievement than JR. The squad that JR took over may have been in a worse of position but it was full of guys that could player at a higher level or win that competition. I dont think you could say the same for many in this squad. Factor in our budget in the championship was competitive while this seasons really isn't. For me staying in the premier would always be a better achievement than staying in the championship.
  12. 2 points
Absolute nonsense. I could easily rhyme off about a dozen worse players in just in our own squad this season alone. Not even getting started on teams like Dundee.

I go to every home game when I am home. What's it like in your head at matches? Are you thinking the worst all through the matches? Even after we score - do you fear disaster is going to come very soon... Don't you know that a pessimist is what an optimist, calls a realist?

This from the other thread. Head says Hamilton will win on Saturday, we draw with Well, (gap 4 points) Then we have to win against Hamilton the following Monday, (gap 1 point) then we need to win when we head to Dundee, or..! For even more stress than Boris Johnson's mankini is used to, if Hamilton lose their last game... then we need at least a draw to stay up on goal difference..ffs! you just know its going all the way to the wire!

With St Mirren you learn to accept no outcome is too surprising! I think I said in February or early March that I thought we could and probably would finish 10th - that Kearney's signings and Gus' scouting had paid off and Hladky, Popescu, Muzek, Lyons, McAlister, Dreyer had all strengthened the team and we looked more like a proper team than we did before Christmas. I thought we would go into the split in 12th place but only 1 or 2 points behind Dundee and Hamilton and our momentum might take us up to 10th. I now think it is touch and go if we will overtake Hamilton. I think it is entirely possible we do something very St Mirrenish indeed, i.e. overtake them this weekend and then lose the head to head game at home and go to Dens Park needing to win and Dundee might win that one too! I'm still hopeful that Kearney's squad have continued to improve from January onwards - even when we lost to Motherwell, Kilmarnock, Hibs, St Johnstone before the split we looked competitive in those games without getting the end result we were looking for, and we finally showed we could compete with Hamilton Accies as well. I'm hoping we can continue on a continuous upward trajectory with no blips over the next 3 games but would go as far as to say that's what I am expecting.

    Chairman's Update

The amount of money the club spends on wages includes coaching staff , management , admin and commercial staff , youth team costs and of course paying the first team squad their wages . With that in mind the extra money from allowing away fans in the family stand for three games would probably allow us a first team squad of say 21 instead of 18 , so with that in mind I think it makes sense to try and sell out both stands when the old firm come to town .
  20. 2 points
Would be happy to see us start with Mullen and Jackson up front, but would also be happy to play Lyons too. May not be everyone's favourite but I think he does stiffen our midfield and stifle the opposition.

If you want to know more contact the club. I for one don’t think our chairman is a liar and the 10% relates to the player budget being 10% greater than what it would have been without the arrangement. You know... what he wrote?

After today - we can take encouragement into this game - The Fakes are a strong side, and overall I think we were the better team. Yes Motherwell can score goals against Dee, but our defence is a lot better than theirs! Last time Well beat us - time before we beat them - so it is our turn and we need it more. Hoping Dee take something from the Hammers and we make up the two points difference at least. Magennis more match fit, but need to get Jackson and Mullen on to have a real go at scoring winning goals . . .

Alex Ferguson took us over when we were in the second tier 1974 - 75 season ( but also the bottom tier ), and we had to gain a top six place to be part of the second tier in a new three league set up , which started 75 - 76 season , and Fergie took us up 1976 - 77 season .

    Motherwell v St. Mirren 4th May 2019

So why should we sit back in defence? Turnbull needs to be stopped in the middle of the park.... I know where you are coming from but Ariyibi plays on the wing and is beginning to grow in confidence and effect. A good FB needs to keep him quiet too. SO I would plump for 4 defenders rather than 5 at the back. OK might just put Hodson in (If he thinks he is fit enough) as a extra holding midfielder specifically to stop Turnbull. He does tend to ghost away from opposition midfielders - and many of our midfielders are good at letting people ghost away into dangerous spaces... We also need to be careful that we don't concentrate on two or three players and leave space for others to shine against us. From memory their RB had too much freedom in a previous match too. Above all this, the best form of defence is to attack well - without leaving ourselves vulnerable.... so C O Y S Jackson and Mullen to add to their goal tallies , , , , , ,

Alex Ferguson took us from the old 2nd division (3rd Tier) to win the 1st division in 1978 and the following year we were in the Premiership Yeah but not many really with the right attitude or drive . . . Truth is there were huge issues in both squads you guys are arguing about. Thankfully in both cases, huge improvements have been made. The big difference this time is that OK, Gus and the BOD will have another transfer window to improve us further … YE - HAH !

The sad, and yet funny truth is that the use of smileys, or emojis, or whatever is becoming a prerequisite for indulging in a bit of humour. In the absence of any of these, he was thoroughly dependent on somebody telling him it was a joke.

    Chairman's Update

the 10% remains unquantified. To date, there is an absence of evidence of the financial benefit to The Club. The chairman saying it's "added 10% to the playing budget" doesn't cut it. Let him tell us, What is the Magic Number? of Season tickets that need to be sold for the South Stand to stop it being given to rangers & celtic. Tell Challenge the support to invest in season tickets that will keep rangers & celtic in the North Stand only. I'd buy one if it helped achieve that

    Chairman's Update

The chairman has put his name to a statement that specifically says it enabled us to increase our players budget by 10% people can think he is openly lying but I don’t. It’s amazing some people think that’s a negative thing on here. Your opinion can be that having one extra near empty stand for three games is more beneficial than a significantly bigger budget for 38, I personally don’t.

I didn’t say sectarianism was “purely a problem of society”, therefore I’m not complicit in refusing to recognise it as a problem of the supporters at two clubs only. I have Celtic supporting colleagues at work who attest to being regularly abused at Tynecastle, Rugby Park and Dens to name a few grounds with some fans who align themselves with one side of the religious divide. The drop of 1,000 home fans has been explained on here a number of times and cannot simply be laid at the door of who we were playing irrespective of how desperate you are for that to support your argument. (Midweek game, live tv, not expected to win etc.) “Terrorism comes calling?” See my above comment re hyperbole. Give it a rest. I’ve been watching my team play Celtic for over 40 years and over that time we’ve regularly given them the majority of our stadium and it’s not “terminally damaged” our home support. I’m sure you’ll wait eagerly for the accounts to be released so you can twist them to whatever anti-board rant you’ll be on at the time but irrespective of how much you stamp your wee feet this one isn’t changing. I’d rather not have them at both ends but the best way to do that is to sell more tickets and it always has been.
