    The Politics Thread

You mean people who choose to live and work in Scotland but not people who chose to live and work elsewhere? It is not being Scottish that qualifies you, it's residency in Scotland. If you are Scottish but live in Liverpool, you get to vote in the Liverpool City Council elections, if you are a Scouser living in Glasgow, you don't. It would also be very difficult to determine who, other than residents, would/should be eligible to vote. Does being born in Scotland qualify you? What about someone who was born in Scotland to Chinese parents who were just here on holiday and hasn't been back since? Or is it ancestry that qualifies you? What about someone who was has never been to Scotland but was born to Scottish parents outwith Scotland? Does it extend to grandchildren if all the grandparents were born in Scotland but neither of the parents were? Or 3, 2 or just 1 grandparent? Great-grandchildren? Should it be open to anyone that "considers themselves" Scottish? What about those that live and work in Scotland but consider themselves another nationality (e.g. Celtic and Sevco fans)? As I said, very difficult.

  4. Anyone and everyone registered to vote in Scotland gets a vote, no-one else does. It couldn't be any simpler or any clearer.

  5. @freethinker Given the circumstances of his life I would say Malcolm X is indeed a hero and I congratulate Humza Yousaf for saying so, it's all about context which you Alt-right snowflakes ignore. I congratulate you on your choice of username, very appropriate, as your posts are certainly free of thought.

    New Bridge

I organised for it to be opened to allow pipe laying equipment built at Westway to be transported in 1999 but I believe it has to be opened every year as part of the bequeath to the town. But for those who haven't seen it here we go.

Honestly, I had to switch off after 5 minutes because her screeching voice was doing my head in. She does make some good points though. IMO you have a government scared of being blamed for this so they are hiding behind the science. You then have the scientists getting caught up in all the attention being showered on them, the money being thrown at them and the increased importance being given to them and I can tell you this, they'll find ways of presenting data which allow them to retain the status quo for as long as possible. What is needed is for our politicians to lead and make their own decisions. Get the country fully open, stop the farcical mask wearing pish and accept that covid is another risk we have to manage in life. We cannot continue like this.

Scaremongering, another word that was used in this thread some time ago. Oh, I know because the person in this video isn't a scientist or expert her views will be dismissed but there's a whole lot of sense in what she says.

Kearney is a really excellent manager. It's a shame he worked his ticket so shamelessly to get back over the water as most of us were gutted to see him go at the time. Pleased for him getting a big win though, bigger clubs will take notice of the job he's doing there though and someone may take a punt on him not being as flaky and non-committal next time around!

Her point is that every health issue bar Covid is being neglected and this is ending up killing far more people than the virus. Lockdown has killed far more people than the virus.

    Welcome Isak Thorvaldsson

I don't think it's anything to do with his ability. Goodie said he wanted to be closer to home and he's immediately went back to Iceland with IA. Nothing sinister. Probably homesick and found out they were interested.

  27. Fair enough. Good strong management. Had a good look. No better than what we have or want. Sad it didn't work out but a loan has to be mutually beneficial so best option. Wish the lad well.

    Coronavirus

Lest we forget that as thousands of sick and elderly people were thrown out of hospital under the orders of Johnson and Sturgeon and people were left abandoned to die, that nurses were dancing in half empty hospitals across the country. The day of reckoning will come.

  31. Teams should be approaching full fitness now after 4 games (5 for them). Their new manager Davidson seems to be taking a few games to bed, (it's his first gig as No. 1!) but the Fakes are not likely to be mugs on Saturday. Like us they seem to lack a cutting edge so I'm going for a low scoring draw.

Looks a good addition. I hope this doesn't mean Ilkay Durmus is away. On his day Ilkay is a talent and can pitch in with goals. Concened he didnt make the bench on Saturday.
