    Kyle Magennis

How hard was it to say something like: One of the big selling points to prospective players coming to St Mirren is that we can offer them a real chance at first team football and if they succeed we will not stand in their way if they want to move onto bigger clubs. That is part and parcel of our club ethos and our value system and we are delighted to see many former players move onto the English Premiership and the Scottish national side. Whilst we are sorry to see Kyle go despite our best efforts to keep him at the club, we fully expect him to follow in those footsteps and will follow his career as he progresses. We thank him for dedicating so many years of his life to this club and wish him well on the next step of his career. That sort of statement followed by perhaps a brief video or story f his highlights and goals at St Mirren would have shown the sort of class the boy deserves to be shown IMO. But we have a seemingly over-emotional, petulant nugget in charge of these statements.

Y’see... there’s the problem. tell the fans nothing and they’ll bitch. Tell the fans something and they’ll embroider fanciful tales around the something.

Worrying that the clubs first motivation in that statement was to protect their own arse. Surely they know that Kyle’s family are all on Twitter and would very quickly reveal the truth? Mental. As Oaksoft says, some video highlights and a thank you would have been fine. When is the next chairman’s update? Do we still have a chairman?

That statement is nothing short of embarrassing 😂; feels like they’re hanging Kyle out to dry, similar to the Kearney fiasco. Amateurs 🙈

  7. Time for this gutless board move on. And take kibble with them. All they do is sell our best young players for a pittance. They have probably done the same deal as John McGinn. Sorry to say this Magennis is a good player. But he's no John McGinn. They need players in NOW or say hello to the championship. Then they'll know about losing money. No ambition. Whole club is rotten to the core. No wonder Goody is sick of it. Wouldn't surprise me if he resigned.

    Transfer Deadline Day

Our fans, eh! Daniel is 6ft 3 and a regular with the NI Under 19 team. I hope we continue to play with a back three after Fri night which also means less demand for another defender although we do need one just in case. However the young guy looks like he can help out without costing us much (if anything).

  10. St Mirren as per usual playing the "undisclosed fee" pish on Magennis. Why does the Club make a secret of how much the Club receives for academy graduates? Not being open with the supporters who will of course be future owners. It will be an odd deal indeed if the transfer fee is less than the likely development fee. Get the facts out there!

  13. So keep us accurately informed. Us being a fan owned club what was the deal for Magennis Or are we not privy to that information, That's just for the board and the Kibble

  14. Would rather we went with what we have than sign more shite from league 2 in England, The 2 best players on friday night were our own 2 academy players, lost count of how many times I read great shift from Morias when he can't make a pass from 5 yards, McPherson's pass for Ethan's goal was a thing of beauty, I could name a few who would have laid it off to his right shoulder

    Welcome Daniel Finlayson

Welcome to the club Daniel! Hopefully see a left back in, was hoping for some creativity in midfield but times running out. Also, some of the comments on this post are embarrassing, facebook is much worse, but ffs what is going on😂 people moaning we’ve sold our captain and signed defensive cover, we where always going to sign cover regardless if Kyle went or not, it’s a position we’ve been crying out for. Put the daggers down😂. It’s been a rollercoaster of a day but we should be backing a signing not slaughtering it before we’ve seen the boy kick a ball!

I will choose to ignore the fact he was pish on loan to Dundee United a few years back, and concentrate instead on him playing 17 times last season for a Coventry side that got promoted from League 1, which would suggest he has something about him.

  20. We'll find out after we see him play. We've had plenty of players younger than 19 start games who were better than squad players we had.

Theres a fair chance to club have access to the true facts as well. I don't have a problem at all with him wanting to leave. I just don't see whats wrong with the club letting the fans know what happened. We always complain when they leave us in the dark, now they tell us and they are the bad guys.

  31. I think it’s classless on all sides the player also. Injury after injury the club has helped him through yet so desperate to get away. then the timing to leave goody with next to no time to get a replacement in.

  32. I am embarrassed to be a St Mirren fan at this moment in time. I can 'reluctantly accept' missplaced obnoxious statements masked as ambition every July; surrendering meekly every week on the park and crawling to safety every year; shambolic departures of managers every 18 months on less than amicable terms; that we are not a massive club and our good players will eventually go onto bigger clubs, usually for a fraction of the fee other clubs get; that clubs the same size or lesser than us get their moment in the sun whilst we are perpetually in an underachieving state... What I struggle to accept from the club, which is more down to a morality thing - near silence to the paying, loyal supporters; lack of professional behaviour as an institution year in year out; and complete lack of backbone or ambition.

That really is a terrible and pretty petulant back-covering statement from the club. What a dreadful way to thank a player who has been here for 17 years. If the club want to be open, name the classless buffoon who wrote that statement. Honestly it beggars belief.

I thought I recognised his name - was on loan at Dundee United, played one game against Falkirk where they got scudded 6-1 and it looked like he'd never played the game before. However, he's since played 36 games for Coventry over 2 seasons, so can't judge him on one result. Glad we are now getting defensive cover, if we get him and the centre half from Rangers just need a creative midfielder in. JR owes us one, come home Stevie!

I think we can all agree the player has any right to move - it’s more about how the board have went about things... not for the first time either - skullduggery blaming fans for spitting on Dundee United supporters without any evidence “kearney working his way out” for then Oran himself to say on Twitter it’s slander. just to name a few. We sound so petty, and massively unprofessional at times. Edit - remember that time a director offered a fan to settle differences in a charity boxing match 😂😂 shambles

Onwards and upwards. players move on. The club persists. I doubt any other club’s fans would be so upset about an absent player, an injured one, being sold as he wants away -especially during a pandemic when money is short and there are other players out there. as I’ve said, I like Kyle. I’ll probably stay a mild admirer. I’ll like whatever new players arrive.

  47. I I genuinely thought we were still actively looking for a left back pre Magennis leaving. We are way short now and seemingly doing no business. I also hope and expect the BoD to reveal the transfer fee for Magennis none of this undisclosed sum bollox. Getting as opaque as the Trump administration.

From OS ... St Mirren Football Club firmly believes in carrying out business in the correct manner and keeping fans accurately informed, as such the club can confirm that it has today reluctantly agreed a deal with Hibernian Football Club for the transfer of Kyle Magennis. The club had been working for over a year on a new deal for Kyle and offered him a new four-year deal on improved terms, however, it became increasingly clear that Kyle saw his future away from St Mirren. After the initial approaches from Hibernian were rejected, Kyle made it clear to the club his desire to move. With this in mind the club made the difficult decision to accept an improved offer and allow Kyle to make the move. The club shares the disappointment that the fans and all connected with St Mirren will be feeling with this news. The club would like to place on record its thanks to Kyle for all the contributions he made in his time at St Mirren and wish him the very best for his future.
