  1. I agree that we were not great today. But everyone should try to remember that we have lost to Celtic (1st or 2nd) and Hearts (top 4 finish, IMHO). As @faraway saint rightly stated, St. Johnstone are a good side who won both cups last season, and drew with Galatasaray in Istanbul, for heaven's sake! I thought the booing today was awful...a bit like the queues to get in. Speaking of which, I saw a big bearded lad remonstrate with the SLO outside the turnstiles of the West stand. It was clear there was some technical issue that prevented him from entering, and he was extremely frustrated and stated that he had been a season ticket holder for twenty years - the SLO wouldn't take his word for it and he was refused entry. What is happening to our club? The boy should have been given the benefit of the doubt. Better to give one chancer entry once, given the circumstances, than to treat a loyal fan like that.

I think he will be fine. He,s played at a decent level and the fact that Wolves offered him a four year contract suggests that they see potential in him. I do though think that Jamie McGrath has played his last game for us .

He played 28 games last season for grasshoppers who won the Swiss 2nd division. He also seems to have played 28 games for Dunajska Streda in the top league in Slovakia. plus 20 odd games at Walsall and Blackpool. 17 Irish U-21 appearances too. Looks far more experienced than MacPherson. Played and scored in the Europa league qualifiers.

  12. I'll elaborate a little on my experience yesterday re the car park, what normally happens is that I meet my son park up his car and take mine to the ground, where available I purchase a parking ticket for a fiver and park up. If not I park elsewhere. As we were asked to get to the ground early we were there at about ten past one, asked the lad on the gate about purchasing a ticket, he didn't seem to be clued up and clearly had no tickets to sell but said if I had a ticket I didn't need to pay. While I was formulating a response on the basis of do you mean a car park pass rather than match ticket (he clearly wasn't the sharpest tool in the box) he said just go round to the right, never one to look a gift horse etc. I did just that and got parked for free, now I was, and still am happy to pay the fiver but really the club need to get a handle on all these little issues or it is lost revenue all the way. Ok it was the first proper home game and new staff and teething troubles are to be expected but having someone on the gate who knew less about what usually happens than I did was a bit poor.

  13. Another 'If only....' day, I'm afraid. Team played well first half. Scored a goal which was disallowed (wrongly) and should have got another. Similar to the Livi game where we should have been at least one ahead by halftime. What a turnaround in the second half. Couldn't find a teammate with a pass and midfield completely went AWOL. When that happened in the Livi game, McGrath rolled up his sleeves and went looking for the ball. But yesterday there were worrying signs that the rest of the midfield is now pulling him down to their level. He was rarely seen in the last 30 minutes of the game. I'm now undecided between hoping that he stays and can help the others find form again, and thinking we'd be as well letting him go and getting some money for him. At least McCarthy was back in the team yesterday, but not sure he was in the best position for him. Erhahon now out for the next game after a needless foul in the final minutes. Is Power still suspended for that as well? If so, we will struggle in midfield again. The only correct thing JG said after the game was that we need some real pace in the team. Let's hope we can get someone in this week. COYS!!

Couldn't care less where they were born as long as they improve the squad it makes zero difference. I don't think @ALBIONSAINT was insinuating it's a bad thing! I said to the Mrs that I might start wearing a Republic of Ireland top to our games. Of course, it's a little rude of me to presume to know anyone else's mind, so if you were being xenophobic, @ALBIONSAINT, feel free to correct me. LOL I wonder how a ROI shirt would go down at Ibrox?! LOL

  21. Can’t say I’m impressed with anything we are doing on or off the pitch. Absolutely no doubt we have been pushing to sell Jamie. Undisclosed fee will be announced and this will likely mean 300k tops maybe a wee add on. We are losing our star man and sadly this team is not going to win many games of football. No energy no exciting players and v few chances created. We only won 4 home league games last year and that was with A weaker league

  24. We did a lot of business early on. The last pieces might be harder to put in place as those we are after may be weighing up options. And of course who is going and for how much will impact on our choices and budget.

  25. He’s right though - St Johnstone have cash in the bank and their function facilities are (outside of COVID) booked solid. They make more money from off-field stuff than on-field, and don’t rely on the Brown family bank-rolling them - indeed, Steve is well-known to be a tight bastard amongst their fans. They’re also far more likely to spend any spare cash they have on infrastructure than on the playing side.

It always amazes me that clubs leave things to the last minute. No signings today, not just for us but for any team, then tomorrow will be a mad rush to get deals done. I suppose its more interesting but just seems a bit stressful for no apparent reason.
    1 point
  30. But also the Brown family have bankrolled them for years. Without them they would be a decent championship team. Like Accies and County. Wages they pay don't tally with their home supports. I wish that were so but apart from a rights issue when he took control of the club 25 years ago, neither the Brown family nor the family business have put any money into the running of the club. The additional revenue is from the non-football use of their ground and nothing else.

Bad is a bit strong but it is woefully imbalanced and lacking in a creative spark and pace. 2 or 3 signings with the attributes we need would help massively. We've been at this stage before where all the ingredients of a decent side are there but chance creation is our downfall. We definitely need 2 or 3 in tomorrow on the basis that I can see at least McGrath and one other leaving.

  33. Off the top of my head the last time we discussed this with the club, a normal seat is £70 to replace. Safe standing works out at around £120 per seat. You'd need to replace every seat. As far as I know there's never been an injury in the Northbank section. It might look good from a PR POV, but not sure if it adds any true value since everyone stands already. I'd rather see money put into the team, unless we're going to crowdfund it. Pulley system for large displays would be a lot more useful than safe standing.
    1 point
  34. Used to be keen on it, but not sure it's worth the money - W7 is basically a standing area already Pulley system for displays would be a better use of money, like a lot of European clubs have

  38. Agree that we were better first half. Agree that we were playing a team that had a great season last year. Also agree that this is a very competitive league. The rout by Celtic apart we have matched two teams and lost narrowly by one goal to a club that is currently joint top. We do need pace and we do need to find teammates with passes more often. Do those and results will come. Nothing between the bottom five clubs.

  39. Totally agree with poster saying 4 non scoring strikers, you cannot call them strikers as brutal, a said to my nephew after last game of season "good we won't see Erwin again "but he still there,am afraid to say this team is horrendous and buck stops with Goodwin unfortunately a got season book but there is no way il honour it as a just cannot watch thst shitfest anymore ave been saying for 4 seasons we need striker coach, even part time because Goodwin, sharp, langfield, Webster, McManus couldn't hit a coo,s arse with a banjo in there playing days so whst the feck do they no about that department a dont no,so something has to give as that teqm relegation certs

  40. Anyone explain why we were stopped by the stewards from leaving the way we came in via Ferguslie Park Ave, instead being told to turn round and leave via gate at Drums Ave ? No stewards at the gate to organise cars leaving or to look out for safety of those walking out. A free for all when I got there. Saw no communication prior to match relating to this. Dangerous stuff What's going on ?

  42. How he managed to say that we're now acting like top 6 club off the pitch, keeping a straight face, is laughable. No season tickets yet, nae away fans when full houses elsewhere, kiosks still closed, shocking quality jerseys when eventually available, no online shop all summer, shoddy communication to the fans. Aye ,Tony, definitely top 6
    1 point
  43. And they are all St Johnstone fans anyway so why not give them tickets? Another crazy club decision.
    1 point
  44. Really disappointed with the way the club has behaved and (again) communicated over this. Firstly all season ticket holders are told they can get into the game, but the general sale information is just bolted on to the end of that announcement, anyone visiting the club website as a PAYG punter wouldn't even know they can buy tickets for the match on Sunday. Very poor IMO. As far as the seating plan is concerned it looks very much like every stand except the Main Stand is fully open with zero restrictions - so why not just say that instead of "every season ticket holder will get in"? Such a strange way of communicating what should have been very welcome (and overdue) news!? We still don't have season ticket cards - which is another shambles - we've had 18 months to sort out our new ticketing platform and get things all in place - yet everything has been rushed at the very last minute meaning season tickets were late - we had the re-registration mess - and now we don't even have our season ticket cards going into September FFS. Yes we can apparently use our barcode to get in - you think everyone will still have that to hand? Will everyone know that's what they're supposed to do? I expect long queues at the gates on Sunday with inevitable delays as folk try and get in. Ridiculous. And as for the treatment of the away fans - frankly I'm just embarassed about how we've played that. Even if the whole of the main stand was ruled out as a red zone (which it isn't) there would be plenty room in the South and West Stands to accommodate every St.Mirren fan who wants to go to this game, leaving the North Stand for the away supporters. Just because we got shafted by Celtic last weekend doesn't mean we should take the same approach. It's absolutely shite behaviour to be locking out away supporters, not to mention the loss of revenue we'll take from such a selfish approach. We're now going to have plenty of available seats in the West and South, whilst locking out the away fans from the North. These are not the actions of a well run competent top flight football club. IMO.

  45. I know some of the young folk in W6 seem to go up there. In the past I have seen half a row vacate their seats and head down that way. Plus a lot of W7ers might not have the means to buy a season ticket. Could it be that safe standing will attract even more of them? W7 seems the ideal place. I doubt it would cost much, and indeed I reckon it could be financed by SMISA. The onbly possible drawback is that it might require a slight reduction in seats in W6, or would make some of them a restricted view.
    1 point
  46. Mibbe for me. Where would this be? How much would it cost? How much demand is there? edit: One thing I noticed from looking at the seating map today for St.Johnstone tickets is just how few seats are taken in W7. I would guess that’s the target audience but it appears we actually have very few season tickets there.
