We didn't lose the game yesterday on the park; we lost it on the drawing board. I find it hard to believe that our manager failed abysmally to recognise the limitation of Ernhanon, MacPherson and Mason's ability to confront the strength of the Livi side especially the current form of these players. I'm not blaming the players. The substitutions made in the second half was symptomatic of the realisation that the manager had made a huge mistake. I think the biggest impact of this result and the way it was lost will be on the morale of the players. Those subs who came on will feel they should have been chosen for the kick-off and for most of the other players seeing that mistake, their morale will have also taken a hit while looking at the whole picture. Our latest signing, Brophy; what will he be thinking after being subbed and who never received the service he should have got. His morale too will have weakened. I laid in bed last night thinking about all of this and I still find it difficult to come to terms with it. Given all the enthusiastic effort those fans made in decorating the town with our colours I feel truly sorry. Come Wednesday if we get beat this will underline Goodwin's failure yesterday. We are more than capable of beating Utd but not before their morale has been re-inflated.

We picked totally the wrong team. The midfield two of Erahon and Macpherson? What was he thinking. Holt and Bartley won’t have an easier game. Pair one with Foley ? And if Foley isn’t up to it then why is he still here? I struggle to think that he wouldn’t have done better in there . Up front we picked Brophy who was at times the only man in the Livingston half. He was isolated and the team as a whole didn’t perform . Obika and Durmus made a big improvement and what I don’t get is that when we had some success in December it was from pressing teams and bei N in about them. Yesterday we didn’t do anywhere near enough. The galling aspect is that Jim actually believes we had a go. It’s as if the Livingston keeper played a great game had wonder saved and we did everything but score. Nothing could be further from the truth . The boys looked like the occasion got the better of them at times and we never set up to attack them and go win the tie. We set up cautiously and within half an hour he should have been changing his tactics and personnel. He didn’t and obika sitting on the bench for over an hour is a joke. He is the one guy who has good feet and movement and he also scored a goal or two. it’s a chance gone to be in the last three of a National cup when your the biggest team left is the things dreams are made of. We won’t get this chance again and it hurts. Finally Livi have say 1000 fans and don’t own the park. They have assembled a squad capable of going toe to toe with anyone in Scotland and yet saints can only dream of going on a proper unbeaten run. Don’t give me this only lost 3 in 17 etc. Beating qos on pens hardly counts . The team was set up not to lose yesterday and paid for it. It was the complete opposite of the semi final wins v Hearts in 2010 and Celtic in 2013. We simply didn’t turn up.

That’s a couple of folk now said that Tait was our best player yesterday. I’d agree Tait was definitely one of very few to come out with any credit, but I thought McCarthy was comfortably our best player, head and shoulders above the rest. Consistently solid in defence and was the only one for me to make any real probing passes when playing out of defence. After being really impressive last season I felt he made a bit of a shaky start to this season, but for the last 2 or 3 months I think he’s been fantastic. Was also unlucky yesterday when generating arguably our only genuine attempt at goal.

One man to blame and that's Goodwin: absolutely sick to back teeth of his shit tactics: and up to half time it was 3 games without shot on target:we could still be playing this morning and not scoring and us as paying fans(smtv and saints shop, amiss etc) have a right to no his decision not to play Foley or Flynn before Mason or Connolly or erhanon or macpherson: a put on radio after game and nearly threw it out the window a just cannot listen to him talk shit anymore: a was absolutely flabbergasted when he sent same team out for 2nd half so in his head he must have thought they was doing ok and how the hell Mason stayed on park so long beggars believe: and also think the st.mirren curse has hit brophy,we sign goal scorers then come to us and cannot score:sorry for rant but totally pissed off this morning and hurting like hell

There were a number of really disappointing aspects of today's performance. 1. The tactics were wrong from the start, i.e. the team put on the park was wrong 2. The team gave away cheap fouls which played into the strengths of Livingston. They pumped balls into the box and looked for the chaos. 3. It took the management team far too long to see that their selection wasn't working. 4. There were players on the park especially in the first half, who shouldn't have been near the Hampden turf. 5. If you compare that team with the team that played Celtic in 2013, there was no comparison. We deserved to lose to Livi if you especially look at the first half. Fractionally better in the 2nd half, but no cutting edge and long balls all day long, which suited their tall defenders. If the players believed that perhaps this was their one chance to appear and win a final at Hampden, then they didn't show it. Really, really disappointed 😞 😥

Jim Goodwin was the only person in the stadium who actually knows what it’s like, and more importantly what it takes, to captain a team to cup winning glory. It makes his team selection and tactics all the more baffling. Connolly was on a yellow. So what? He was the one spark of creativity we had and he took him off! Once we went behind you could see that no one knew what to do. I still can’t understand why you would set out not to lose a semi final and not try and win it from the first whistle. still gutted

Well done the young buddies who decorated Paisley with the Saints Flags. Their effort and passion was magnificent and put the Team to shame. They are the real winners of the weekend.

Both posts above absolutely spot on along with hundreds of other posts all over St Mirren fans pages/social media since yesterday but still we have happy clappers defending Goodwin. I really couldn't give a shi# if we finish our highest league position in over 30 years i wanted to see us play in another national cup final. Everything in the build up would suggest we couldn't possibly f**k this chance up(if Livingston beat us because they were far better on the day fair enough), Goodwin had captained us to success in this same trophy, we were playing the team that Stevie Wonder can tell you exactly how they play but to get the team selection so spectacularly wrong is unforgivable imo.

Here's the thing... I recognised him as being a walloper years ago, boring and uninteresting. Like Ricky I tried to respond to the insulting, team-handed shite posted by him and best mate shull. But unlike them, I have a life and couldn’t keep up with recurrent lies and other bollox. I put both on ignore, then left the forum. They dragged it down, it was a pitiful place. I only returned when I was informed they’d been rightfully binned. It had already improved , less petty slagging of every decent poster. then sadly, the wankers were set free and fell out even with each other! I had them on ignore. Occasionally I’d see someBuddie quoting their crap. A typical sleekit ploy of fartaway is to slag me or miscorrect what I’ve written. I seldom saw it and when I did, I knew arguing with him was tedious for me and everyBuddie else. I mostly ignored him. To be so childish was a sign of his desperation. But a few days ago, he interrupted a discussion being held between me and other adults. Naturally I never saw his interruption till someBuddie quoted it. It was an illogical attack on one of my posts. Not only was he supporting Boris the Buffoon, but his “correction” was wrong and irrelevant. worse - he quoted figures that backed up what I’d written AND proved that The Buffoon IS shite! It was so stupid, it was funny! I pointed that out, so he slithered and backtracked then accused me of being the one doing those things... while using as many illegal ageist slurs that he could. Like racism and sexism, I know that only a loser would resort to them. It was his same main weapon (that went unpunished by moderators) to drive St Ricky away from the forum. So, as I’m obviously someone who is maybe a decade older than he is... past it etc and for whom he has no respect I once again challenged fartaway to compete in a physical exercise - a race just to prove how unimportant age is. The Paisley 10k seemed ideal. He slagged me; so I get to chose the duelling activity. Why should I be constrained in stupid boxing, an activity that he has chosen? I'd never stick to Queensberry rules. Age also makes no difference in a fight if you use the right weapons. And I would... Aye.... this IS boring.... He’s the running-scared offender, here. If fartaway puts me on ignore and stops responding to my posts and ceases his sleekit slagging, then everyBuddie would be better off and happier.

Saw the whole match on Freesports earlier, although I had vowed not to watch, lol. Saints were pretty poor and up against a team who were far from impressive. Tait was our best player but Mason was hopeless, must get rid of him as he is on loan. Erhahon and Macpherson were poor and shouldn’t have been in the team. Obika, powderpuff, slow and rightly booked for cheating. Waste of time with him, a full season too late. Such a pity we couldn’t take the opportunity to get to a final but we hardly deserved it. If we don’t start picking up wins very soon, it will be the usual fight against relegation. I feel the team let the fans down badly yesterday.

Cracking young player though. Best we have in the middle. Get him signed !

Its not just him. With no crowd you can hear the players, and we don't have anybody on the park geeing up our younger lads. Our captain is almost silent. Where's the passion?

Earlier in the season when we were going through that losing streak, the manager admitted that he'd been too cautious in the way we were setting up and changed things. The last 4 or 5 games have seen us play in a similar way to those games. If he doesn't change how we approach and set up for games very soon, then this season will only be heading one way - and that is another fight to stay up. Time for some experience to be brought back into that midfield. Ryan Flynn was arguably one of our best players before his injury- get him back in the team. If he makes the right changes for this game and has the correct approach, then we've every chance of picking up points, If he persists with the cautious approach, then we'll get nothing.

Grown men fighting each other over an internet forum spat is nothing more than ego-fuelled, chimp-like behaviour. There's nothing gentlemanly about it and stitching on the "charity" bit is nothing more than a sordid justification for it.

Need to get the old heads back in Foley and Flynn , McPherson and Erhahon just didn’t work , and if JDH is out need cool heads.
  26. 2 points
In our last eight games we have only scored three goals against eleven men. Two penalties and a goalkeeping howler. This is an astonishing statistic. I think the sending offs in the St J and RC games have hidden how bad we have been.
  27. 2 points
We haven't scored a goal from open play since the 26th December. And that was against 9 men.. Jim has brought in 3 strikers this season and plays one and 2 left backs (one who is not very good) in a semifinal against Livingston.... Anyone wonder why we were under the cosh from the start and created nothing for 70mins

I agree Billy They are all hard work and pressence at set plays Goodwin bought in to the media and tbf a few of us myself included Obika and Durmus had to start as they have drive and look to go forward They aren't great but as Livi have shown you don't need to be Foley or Flynn should have came on today as the young players were too easy bullied We were beaten before a ball was kicked today and that was down to the manager i'm afraid

Strange feeling. Not that disappointed. Probably because we didn’t deserve anything from it. Think the only time I’ve felt that way about a semi-final before was Killie during the relegation season in 2001.

Congratulations Livi. No excuses. They deserved the win. Saints started too defensively and gave Livi too much respect for far too long when in a semi final they should have gone for the jugular. Livi bossed the first half and deserved their lead. We left the changes far too late, and when we did remember how to attack, Livi defended as if their lives depended upon it. They fought for one another, gave their all and deserve their place in.the cup final. Would have been my wee Mums birthday today. I had hoped to dedicate a win to her memory. Just wasn't to be. Well played Livi. [emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji122]

This is the bit that baffles me about his selection and tactics. He was on saying how he had learned, that he was young coach and had been too negative. Then a couple of players form shades and he goes back to the old approach and gets nothing. Bizarre.

I see The Buffoon is saying that Quarantine Hotels are something that Ministers will be discussing... Covid: Quarantine hotel plan to be discussed by ministers - BBC News I would have assumed any competent government would have already had that all sorted out months ago, planned, organised, ready to be administered... in order to put it into effect asap..... Sigh.

These 9 games in 30 days give me the absolute fear i worry he will continue with the same negative tactics that have saw us be terrible since beating Rangers and gave us a lovely 7 defeats in a row earlier in the season. Grown men tend to be egotistical, Oaksoft. Whether it's working out in the gym, driving fast cars, wearing designer clothes, bragging about the size of their genitalia or how much they can drink, or their golf handicap, how many push-ups they can do....or flaunting their intellect. Men are competitive and egotistical by their very nature. There's almost certainly an evolutionary reason for that, or perhaps it comes back to original sin. If you've ever drunk in a less salubrious pub, you will probably be aware that it's not a good idea to make extended eye contact with another male, as it can be seen as aggressive and a challenge. "What the f**k are you looking at?" I suppose you're correct, it is 'chimp-like' in the sense that it's driven by one of man's baser instincts. However, we're not talking about a car park with no rules, but a boxing match, in a ring, with a referee. Pugilism is a noble art in that it allows man to release his aggression and fight, whilst simultaneously restraining himself by adhering to a set of rules - no gouging, biting, kicking, etc. The internet is brilliant in many respects - it allows all of us Buddies to communicate with one another from all across the country, and the world. It also provides people with a sense of security, given that they're sitting in the safety of their home. Unfortunately, some people cannot resist the temptation to behave mischievously and in a manner that wouldn't be countenanced, even by themselves, were they physically amongst those they target. Could you imagine everybody on this forum sitting around a table and saying some of the things that they write on here? It simply wouldn't happen. Unlike you, I don't find it boring - I find it both fascinating and amusing. "Give a man a mask and he will tell you the truth", said Oscar Wilde, I believe. "Give a man a the means to interact with others anonymously, and from the safety of his own home, and you will encounter the 'characters' that one finds on blackandwhitearmy.com." - W6er Why let it bother you? Just laugh at it and move on to a something more sensible. By leaving the forum, you're admitting that it gets to you, and it shouldn't. It really shouldn't.

A point in this game is not good enough. Ill give that Goodwin has build a decent squad but has no faith in them. Has no clue of his best line-up or formation. He should be getting pulled in and told to put a team on park to win games and if not can go just now. If he doesn't go 442 here will be disgraceful.

I don't see the harm in a charity boxing match! Boxing is a (combat) sport, and with gloves and a referee, I think it's a very gentlemanly way to decide things. The only potential problem is if the contestants were in different weight divisions.

He sent that team out with one hand behind their back ,poor management all round
  47. 1 point
That's nonsense too. We have gone behind 6 times this season in games we didn't lose. It's not a softness as that proves. It's the wild form swings and showing teams too much respect that's the problem. We have to be more proactive. Can’t quite remember all 6 games but presumably include: - Rangers - a penalty out of the blue - Aberdeen - a penalty - Motherwell - another penalty when struggling to show any real threat - St. Johnstone - a good comeback win, albeit against 10 men - QoS - we were rank rotten against lower league opposition. Don’t think we should be taking much credit for scraping a draw Softness is maybe the wrong word but we don’t know how to attack effectively or chase a game. The nature of those games that we have managed comebacks, considered alongside the many other games where we haven’t shows the problem.
  48. 1 point
Think jim has to take a good amount of blame here setting up too defensively.
  49. 1 point
It's not just effort that wins games - we need a bit of guile and quality. Self belief and concentration have also disappeared in recent weeks. Whilst I rate some of our young midfield players they need some old wise heads beside them and too much has been asked of the young ones. And yes - as everyone else has said, we are far too negative in our formation and attitude. But we have the nucleus of a better team than the one that turned up today.

The argument in favour of a substantial guaranteed payment is that, as even you say, the current system ain't working and many people are clearly not prepared to take the chance on the timescale or probability of getting said payment and will ignore the symptoms as long as they can drag themselves to their place of work. It's all a bit moot now as BJ seems to have backed away from the notion. Yeah, the roads are not quite as busy as pre-pandemic but still nothing like as empty as Lockdown1, obviously the current version is not as restrictive as the first one but I'm hoping this number of motors on the road reflects a reduction in carsharing. Obviously the balance between not completely trashing the economy and fighting the pandemic is complicated (statin' the bleedin' obvious) but you would hope we don't repeat the same mistakes and end the current lockdown too early or come out with restrictions that are too lax. As I've said above, somewhere, I hope the combination of better weather, the current lockdowns and vaccinations will allow some relaxation of the rules by late spring but I wouldn't expect to see any mass attended events for quite some time yet.
