Ball Boy

Ball Boy (2/14)

  1. The board have made mistakes, a whole raft of them. But they also saved our club and gave us a new stadium and a training ground and brought us financial stability. Bottom line is we still have a team to support. These are not rich men, but guys who put their money where their heart and souls were. Ross County and Motherwell both have sugar daddies, and good luck to them, but we don't and I'm afraid that when the shit hits the fan in football its the fan who suffers. And that my friends is the only thing that keeps our wonderful club going. The fans. You and I. When you love something and it goes tits up you want to blame someone and have a big greet. No one died last night, although my liver did take a helluva pounding. There will still be a St Mirren next season and I'll be there, moaning and greetin as always. So will my kids, and so, some day, maybe, their kids will experience the unique pleasure and pain that is supporting our wonderful club and that is due to Messrs Gilmour, Campbell and McAusland. Have they got everything right, absolutely not, but they have got most things right and this season they have got a lot of things wrong. Shit happens. The championship beckons and our club need us more than ever so put the hankies away. Now, bring on the soapdodgers................
  2. The moral of the story is run your club properly, ie, don't spend money you don't have. Our club has been run properly for 20 years and we have a new stadium, a top class training ground and er, yes a team who are struggling to maintain their top league status. I honestly think that we will survive this season (gulp) and that things will improve next season and that this season will have been the making of a couple of players.
  3. Divs right, TC's record has been dreadful. Although he can legitimately use the current injuries as some kind of excuse at the moment the fact is that every player except Steven T was available in the first half dozen or so games and we were just as bad then. The statistics are shocking, goals for and against and the fact that we have only picked up 1 point at home. We are not quite detached from the pack and that, I suspect,is his saving grace in the boardroom as is the cheerio cheque we would have to find from somewhere. What really irritates me is his patronising post match comments that suggest that there is light at the end of what has been a very long tunnel and the fans should be patient. I have supported St Mirren for a very long time and even my superhuman reserves of patience are at breaking point. His latest bizarre team selection suggests that blind panic is now the order of the day as you just do not throw in young lads into a relegation battle, especially when there is very little in terms of experience already in the team. To call this a shambles is an understatement. He is in his 4th season at the club and so far has got every big decision wrong. This week is make or break. I genuinely hope he wins and it is the kick start we need. Then again ..........................
  4. Great to finally see the BT lies and smears being shown for what they are. If you believe that we can do better then, quite simply, you have to vote YES.
  5. Surprised at some of the comments on here. Our BoD have made some mistakes for sure, but they have got all the big ones right and our bank balance and new stadium illustrate that. Most clubs would love to have our "problems". This decision is about the direction of the club for the next four or five years and one week makes no difference in that perspective. DL's contract runs until the end of this month and if he wanted it sorted out sooner he shouldn't have squandered an entire summer transfer window and signed Djemba Djemba and Adam Campbell in January. That has all been money wasted which we can ill afford. Had our season been slightly more consistent then I suspect that he would already have signed a new contract. Football can be brutal but Danny signed a contract which will be honoured by the club so in that respect he should not complain, especially in public. Are we any further forward than we were when he joined? If we keep him on will he take us forward after 4 years of inertia? Yes, we won the League Cup, but make no mistake, had we not won it he would have been gone last season.
  6. It’s a results business and, of late, they have been good. However no manager of our club can afford to get his summer signings so badly wrong as DL did. His treatment of a senior and very popular player added to dressing room unhappiness and this did not help our early season performances which were dreadful. This meant our season was on the back foot from day 1. He has turned it around, albeit just in time. Some of the performances have been truly awful as have some of his utterly baffling tactical decisions. It seems that the players only play when they really have to and that points to poor management as any strong manager should be able to at least get a level of consistency from his players and not just when the chips are down. Personally I would have chased him at Christmas and tried to bring in Ian Murray. If we do keep him it should be a one season contract with a clause stating that if we are in the bottom two after 12 games then we will have the option of dismissing him with no compensation.
  7. AVOID GRAVITY. Took my son to see it and expected a half decent movie. George Clooney was fantastic in one of my favourite movies in recent years - Syriana - but Gravity was complete and utter dross. A weak script, almost all the movie with one character (that cow Bullock) but great views of earth and space (and Ms Bullocks body) and that is it. Got great reviews but god knows how. I know these things are subjective but I just did not get it.
  8. gazmc83 No one forced Robbo to do anything. He had a full time contract and was offered the opportunity of guaranteed regular football at Cowdenbeath and took it. His contract with SMFC was fully paid up (otherwise wee Fraser Wishart would have been in to see SG). I also said that DL has made mistakes, unlike some on this forum it would seem.
  9. Was a great night. Well done to all involved. If we ever needed reminding that we are all part of something that can be truly uplifting, last night was it. Yes, things are grim at the moment and DL has made mistakes, but the guy spoke really well last night and to even be there he deserves a huge dollop of respect as many "football" people would have found an excuse to miss it. Well done to the players too. They were great value and its the best I've seen them perform for a while!! At times Danny was quite emotional, especially when his sons were on screen, clearly proud of their Dad. He may be a lot of things but he is a really decent and genuine human being and should be shown respect. We are not yet detached from anyone in the league and on balance I would be inclined to give him until the end of the first quarter to turn things round and I really hope he does because nothing would give me greater pleasure than seeing a good guy like that get his reward.
  10. Mmmmmmmm lovely. Wonder if they can run up a set of curtains........................
  11. I signed up to the 10,000 hours idea because it was the only show in town and the concept is, overall, one that is attractive. I can only say that I wasn't sold 100% on RA as he stated that he had £4 Million in his personal account and not a penny of that has been used in this bid. According to him, his lawyers explained that this would alter the bid, so can only take him at his word Dave Wares on the other hand is using (presumably) his own money, and, call me an old cynic, but that makes me interested in his proposal. From what we can read on the interthing he is a successful, solvent and sensible businessman. Dundee Utd supporter? So what? I know that at least two of the present directors grew up supporting other teams and they've done not a bad job over the last 15 years. If he's prepared to invest his own dosh in SMFC then I'm pretty sure his loyalties will be towards the Black and White. I think we should be cheeered by the fact that there are options for the club. I look forward to hearing more from Mr W
  12. Its an answer, but not a vey convincing one. Philanthropists are in short supply at the moment and maybe you are indeed one of them!! I would have been happier if you had said that you saw an opportunity to make some money whilst improving the club. Fergus McCann said just that and did just that and was good for Celtic - far better than they deserved actually. Again, I apoligise if you think me rude, but maybe I'm not the one who wants watching!!
  13. That was a long answer but not to the question I asked!! Simply put - Whats in it for you? I realise it may be viewed as a cynical (maybe even rude) question, but as stated in my original post, we have seen other "wealthy" individuals "buy" into football clubs and the result has been, frankly, disastrous. Football is indeed a finacial basket case at the best of times which makes the question even more relevant. Why would a successful businessman want to get involved in a football club? I would because I have been emotionally involved (and thats the worst reason actually) but why would you?
  14. Richard, at one of the meetings you stated that you personally had enough money to do this deal on your own, and the asking price then was £2M. If you believe that its such a great investment (I do and would snap it up IF I had the cash) why don’t you invest your own money and organise a members fund whereby you could sell shares to smaller investors/supporters on the £10 a month principle? In other words, whats in it for you? You are not a supporter and as I’m led to believe, not even a football fan. Sorry to sound cynical, but with whats happening up the road I think these questions not only have to be asked, but answered.
  15. I'll bow to your suprior knowledge, but my surprise remains that this "secret" never leaked.
