  1. I think Thommo does a great job for us and is an above average striker. Certainly good enough to play for any other club in this league with the possible exception of Sellik (at this stage in his career). To compare him with Somner, McDougall and McAvennie is totally unfair, as they were all top class and playing in better St Mirren teams. Somner is by far the most prolific striker I've ever seen play for Saints. When paired with McDougal, they made a perfect alliance. Those were glory days. Yardley is another story. A guy full of effort, but not able to match the effort with talent. Thommo is a far better striker. As for the argument about our current squad - I look at it and see a top 6 spot looking a good bet. So why are we losing to Hearts Youth Academy and unable to beat a relatively ordinary Partick Thiste side? I've been one of those defending DL all along. However, nice guy that he obviously is, he still isn't motivating these players, he certainly isn't playing them all in their best positions and he certainly isn't making the right substitutions at the critical points in matches. If any one of those faults should prove to be his downfall, it should be the 'hands-in-pockets - sitting on his arse looking blank' issue at times when the players need instruction and motivation. DL just doesn't deliver that I'm afraid, so maybe it's time we employed someone who can deliver on that. As for who can we afford? I remember we brought in some relatively low-cost, relatively untried guy from East Stirling and he did a good enough job. Wish I could remember his name. And lastly, on the ubiquitous point of DL having won us a cup, is it even remotely possible that we won that cup despite him being in charge? As I said, I've defended DL all along, so don't accuse me of being among that group who have a major agenda where Danny is concenred. I just think we can't keep relying on shite teams getting promoted so that we don't finish 12th. Even that safety net has now gone with the introduction of the play-off.
  2. I've just put the words - john bomber brown - into my new anagram solver and was somewhat surprised, not to mention a little disappointed, to find that those words are not an anagram of - yer f**kin joking Maybes I'll change the batteries and try again.
  3. I've got just the man. Amish McAlpine, former Arabs goalie.
  4. I read through this entire thread, thinking about how to put down my own thoughts at the end. I needn't have bothered, as this post by Drew sums up my sentiments exactly.
  5. Remind me not to start any more new threads.
  6. Same here, but I figured that Eric widnae know that version. Am I pedantic or what?
  7. Only because of the high volume of eejits who will bet on them.
  8. Personally, I'd take great pleasure in seeing us dump Randjers oot the cup. Have I took that too far? I have, haven't i?
  9. I stopped watching Soccer AM when Tim Lovejoy quit and they replaced him with a series of fuds
  10. Rumour has it his favourite songs are Rebel Rebel (Bowie), Mony Mony (Billy Idol) and Djumble Djumble (White Stripes) Note to Magic Monkey - lesson learned, thanks.
  11. Cheers. Wish I'd thought of that in the first place.
  12. Well, that's Sellik oot at the hands of Aberdeen, so once again it's anybody's cup. Could well be ours if we can get past the trip to Tannadice tomorrow. 1-1 tomorrow and 2-0 Saints in the replay.
  13. I've heard he's a big fan of Duran Duran and Talk Talk
  14. Good points from ealrier posts about previous Old Trafford flops Diego Forlan and Juan Sebastian Veron, of whom Fergie was once quoted as saying, "He's a f**king great player, and you're all f**king idiots", (I tend to agree). There have been many other considered flops at Man Utd, including most recently, Dimitar Berbatov. Others like Kleberson and Jordi Cruyff were class players who just didn't quite click. I could even go back as far as Gary Birtles, who only scored once for Man U if I remember correctly, and then scored on his first game back at Notts Forest under Clough. Point being, Djemb Djemba was signed as an expected successor to Roy Keane, so is just the type of defensive midfielder we need to protect the defense. Even if he did flop at United, he should still be good enough for our wee league even if he has lost a leg. I'm glad to see us making such a bold move and can't understand any negative comments in connection with this signing.
  15. Totally accept your point Bluto, but my point really is that I find it hard to believe that the guy, who wrote that comment in Aberdeen Footymad, has never heard anything that would constitute religious bigotry at Pittodrie.
  16. So anyway, what has Dilo been up to?
  17. Surely this guy would be worth a try when his contract at Cowdenbeath comes to an end in the Summer? He will be 23 and has currently scored about half of the Blue Brazil goals for the season. They would be down and out without him and will probably still end up in the play-offs in spite of his goals. If DL stays in the job (I'm only saying) would he still have some pull with his old club? And no, I don't think this guy would turn out to be another Gareth Wardlaw.
  18. From the Aberdeen Footymad quote posted by Bluto: "I have never heard any religious bigotry being used by Aberdeen supporters." I was at an Aberdeen v Celtic game on Boxing Day a few years back. I had been invited by a workmate who was able to get me a seat with him and his six mates as one guy was offshore and so I got his seat. Celtic had taken the lead but Aberdeen equalised before half-time. I applauded the goal, but stayed in my seat, while the Dons fans around me went wild. Some numbnut two rows back decided that I had to be a Celtic fan, based on my accent and the fact that I didn't go mental at the goal. The abuse he gave me at half-time was constant, aggressive and definitely sectarian. He was also getting others on his side, until the guys I was with f**ked them off and explained I was a neutral invited by them. If I'd been alone I'd definitely have had to leave. Had the guys behind me been giving me abuse for being a west-coaster, a baldy twat, or any other accurate description, then much as it would still be out of order, it wouldn't have been based on religious bigotry. However, the insults all came in the form of "f**k off home ya fen*ian bastard" and other similar niceties that obviously assumed I was Catholic (which I'm not) so I find it hard to believe the guy quoted above has truly never heard evidence of religious bigotry, when I heard it the one and only time I was ever at the "Home" end at Pittodrie. And while I'm on, I'm no (Neil) Lennon lover, but I certainly don't hate the bloke. I just wish that our Lennon had some of the other one's passion, like when he was arguing over throw-ins a couple of weeks ago while his team were 4-0 up against us.
  19. I think you are maybe 15 or 16 out with the crowd prediction. The score prediction is bang on though.
  20. Wonder what odds we would get on you saying something positive
  21. I'm actually convinced I'm a jinx. For a small fee I won't attend another game this season.
  22. Definitely happy with this signing. We will be bringing in a player with something to prove and he won't break the bank. That's where the club is these days and, as fans, we sadly have to accept that we can't look on the higher shelves for players.
