  1. My absolute hero. I used to watch episodes of the Young Ones over and over again. I still use various lines from that programme in every day life... 'the bathrooms free, unlike the country under the Thatcherite junta' 'do you really need that light on, what are you trying to do, photosynthesise?" Even my daughter loved Drop Dead Fred. And my wife absolutely hated me dragging her to see Guest House Paradiso. Loved that film. He was a genius.
  2. My apologies, I posted the wrong %. However, Salmond still achieved less votes than Margaret Thatcher did in 1979!
  3. Stuart does raise some valid points about the popularity of Margaret Thatcher in Scotland. The Tories share of the vote in the last general election before the great Margaret came to power was 24.7%. At her last glorious general election victory in 1987 it stood at 24.0% - only marginally down. The SNP currently have a majority in the Scottish Parliament - with only 31.0% of the vote and 902,915 votes. Contrast this with Margaret Thatcher who had 31.4% of the vote in Scotland in 1979 and 916,155. It really must irk Alex Salmond that - even at his most successful - he is actually less popular in Scotland than Margaret Thatcher was!
  4. My intention is to see Scotland remain part of the UK. 50-60% is therefore fantastic. The only thing its dire for is the Yes campaign!
  5. Thank guys. You have all made my point for me perfectly...
  6. This is a forum for fans to discuss their football team. They discuss players, the manager, tactics, games, etc. Can you guys not grasp this?
  7. This thread is much like Scottish society in general. The silent majority - Stuart Dickson aside - stay out the discussion lest the YES campaigners - by and large abusive bully boys - vent their spleen at them. Their is so much venom, anger and rage from the yes campaigners. Very much like their UKIP counterparts down in England. Thank god its going to be a landslide no vote and the lunatics won't be taking over the asylum!
  8. Wy do we need to sign so many new players? With the incredible youth system and the never ending stream of quality players that have come through during Longwell's decade plus in charge, surely we can just use the youngsters?
  9. Just like his brother Stephen wasn't given a chance?
  10. Deary me. 2 days later and this guy is still running around trying to shut down folk from having an opinion and handing out personal abuse to fellow buds.
  11. Careful now. Unless you are going to say that the guy is a world beater then watch what you post!
  12. The McGregor point isn’t even valid anyway. Indeed, I didn’t even mention my opinion on the abilities of McQuade or Dunn above. McQuade and Dunn were lightweight ‘forwards’ without any goalscoring records of note and who weren’t youngsters. My comparison is perfectly valid. Please feel free to apologise to me Ricky. A PM will do if you’d prefer.
  13. Deary me. So its okay to abuse fellow buds on this forum - like you are doing just now - but you aren't allowed to voice an opinion and a guy who doesn't even play for the club? I'll voice my opinion as much as I like - its what this forum is all about. As for McGregor, when he signed I pointed out that he was injury prone and had missed most of the season prior to joining us with a hellish injury. As always... I was proved correct!
  14. Indeed, we don't know if he's even coming... yet you want to shut down anyone having an opinion on the subject that disagrees with your own! Wrap up and let others voice their opinion - that's what this forum is for!
  15. What about Hamill, McPake & Thomson? Would these guys really have improved us?
  16. Paul McQuade / Robert Dunn standard of signing...
  17. You think we can avoid a relegation battle by signing players released by clubs that have been relegated?
  18. Most of the bitterness appears to be coming from you... I put the word "country" in quotation marks for a reason. Classic misinforamtion from bitter Soprano. And this avoids the real question... can anyone name a "country" that didn't want indepdence, didn't have a referendum about it and didn't regret not having a referendum and not voting for independence?
  19. Indeed. Quebec is actually an example of a "country" that had an indepedence referendum (1995) where there was a very narrow no vote. There has been no subsequent referendum as support for indepedence has actually declined in the near decade since. So here we have an example of a "country" that voted against indepdence and hasn't regretted it.
  20. How many "countries" who didn't want independence and didn't get independence have regretted not getting indepedence? Can you show me just one?
  21. I work with a number of Hearts fans and every single one has said he's useless.
