Three solid signings with SPFL experience. Surprised St Johnstone let Tanser go, to be honest. A good days business all round. 👍🏻

They offered him a new deal and his agent had been talking about a move down south apparently according to their fans.

Seems we have offered him a better deal.

  2. I've had time to take thought on this one since hearing about it yesterday.

I wasn't exactly excited by this potential signing, though if we want the best out of our two likely goalscorers, Brophy and Dennis, a wrecking ball figure working up front with them either creating knock ons or pulling the opposition out of play, could be a very good foil to give them the freedom to do their thing. Not every forward is prolific in front of goal, though their link up can create the chances for others.

Anybuddie any idea how it’s going for Mallan  in Turkey?

He's just returned. Think he played 17 and scored 2.

I'd love to have him back though I don't know if he would see it as a step back. Should have plenty of suiters this summer if out of Hibs' plans

Here is a crazy thought....How about bringing Lewis Morgan back

    That would be fun

He's absolutely flying in the MLS just now.

Maybe a closer to home punt would be a loan deal for Mallan if affordable and he's interested.

There is 2 i work in-between Airdrie and Motherwell and on the nighshift there is 1 Hamilton fan, 1 St Mirren fan, 1 Kilmarnock fan & 1 St Johnstone fan.

According to St Johnstone fan they are rumoured to be interested in Callachan.

He's played there before and if they are interested it would be a no brainer for him to be interested himself, joining a double cup winning side that will also be playing at least a handful of games in Europe too.

He's an okay player, though not one who I've ever thought would improve the quality of our own squad.

Tait struggles with pace. Jason has pass and hit a good cross into the box. I would bring him back

Tait is probably one of the fittest players over 90mins at the club, always at either end of the park up to the last kick of a ball. Fraser and Flynn also play that position as well as Tammy for cover.

Let’s face it,Scotland will have 3 games then out. Goals are at a premium so Griffiths should have been included. Too many defenders which indicates how the team might be set up. Glad to see inclusion of Patterson and Turnbull, not seen anything of Gilmour but at least young. A few should not be going though, Hanley, Cooper and Fleck. You could pick a decent side out of the squad I believe but, just like Saints, goals or lack thereof will be the problem.

Hanley, captain of newly promoted Norwich & Premier league players Cooper and Fleck are all playing at a very decent level and are just as deserving of a place than 10 games Patterson and a few games Gilmour.  Patterson and Gilmour may be brought along for the experience, or they may break through to a start, though the three players you have mentioned have just as much right to be there for the standard they are playing at. There is no-one off the top of my head who I think should be in front of them who missed out.

I understand the calls for Griffiths. We all remember his free kicks against England, but maybe Steve Clarke feels that he could be a disruptive figure around the squad. He has had his fair share of off field problems. This squad could be together for a month. That’s a long period to be cooped up. I’d want guys who are hungry and champing at the bit to take part in this tournament.
We have some real hard workers and good characters in that squad.
Strachan once commented on the manners of John McGinn where he got off the bus and rather than wander off with the squad he stayed to help the back room staff with all the training gear. Strachan said that McGinn would go far in the game and he has been proved right.

    As Fitzy once said:

“Hard work beats Talent, when Talent does not work hard!”

And that’s why imho Griffiths has not been picked.

Agree. Imagine Griffiths got the nod to come off the bench ahead of the likes of Kevin Nisbet for example who has had a tremendous season, got his head down and worked for his call-up.

Cole is out of contract my motherwell mate confirmed it as does google.

    MotherwellEdit

On 2 October 2020, Cole returned to Motherwell on a contract until the end of the 2020–21 season

My bad. I thought id heard he had signed a new contract whilst watching highlights couple of weeks ago. It may have been another player they were talking about signing a new deal.

Just wonder if we are one of a number of clubs interested in Dunfermline midfielder Kyle Turner currently on loan at Airdrie. Note that he rejected a new contract with Pars hence he was shipped out on loan.Anytime I watched Dunfermline on BBC earlier in the season he certainly looked the part.

I think he is heading south of the border.

Louis Moult anyone? Seems like our type of player. Just released by PNE following an injury ravished spell.

If he stays clear of injury, he is definitely the sort of player we should be looking at if he fits within our budget.

100% agree, tactically naive,  not a clue what formation to play. Likes to think he's clever with baffling substitutions and tactics which 99% of time don't work. Doesn't realise 2 holding midfielders don't work. Doesn't believe in his players to go out and get results. Anybody who plays Erwin or Erahon is really struggling...that's my opinion, couldn't care less if anybody else agrees!

Connolly assisted two, MacPherson scored one and Quaner scored another. What more do you want from your subs, as that clearly worked from an attacking perspective.

Killie like ourselves were exposed at the back due to their attacking nature in the game.

    Tommy Wright...also tactically naive

  13. Quaner looked much sharper and effective when he came on last week. He definitely would become a huge asset, though from my understanding, he has been on some serious money in the past. Jim did say we were lucky to have him and only for the pandemic we were given opportunity to bring him in to get himself in the shop window.

I know he hasn't exactly had the game time to put himself in the shop window, though clubs in England and Germany already know of him and the type of player he is. Hopefully he brings some more in these remaining games.

  14. I've not read the full way through this thread, though in short for me, what has cost us, is:

    1. failing to take advantage of all of those home games in February, including the 2 games in-hand over everyone else around us. Top 6 should have been wrapped up by end of February.
    2. Secondly, tactically at times, the manager has got it wrong and has never really shouldered the blame for that. The Accies game at the weekend i felt Goody tried to deflect the blame on the referee when he should have admittedly held his hands up that his decisions in the second half cost us three points and not the referee
    3. Lack of strikers been made available the last couple of months due to injury.

So hes a decent player at SPL level which happens to be our level but you are not bothered if he left but you like Obika (so do I by the way) who is a decent squad player and yet Mcal's potential is greater than Obikas.

I guess its all about opinions but for me he is a good player to have in the squad and well worth keeping

There is a very decent player in there. We have seen it before his move to Derby and in his season on loan. If he can re-find that form, we have a very good asset on our hands. Form is temporary, talent is permanent as they say.

I dislocated shoulder can take a few months to recover from. Just as we hit a good bit of form again, we lose a few key players.

Hopefully big Quaner is not too far away from a return to give us another option further up the field.

Great turnaround in our season by the lads now let’s deal these lads in and make sure they aren’t picked off for a nominal fee from Hibs and the like. Let’s hope the board are already well down the line with the lads out of contract this year. Obika, Durmus, Connolly and for me if it takes three players wages get Jake Doyle Hayes signed up if we can. When he’s on it we’re on it. Lads different class.

I personally think the club may wait till we get to a certain number of points on the table,  that are based on previous seasons as safe enough to finish above bottom two. I don't think we are too far away from that and could possibly had said amount of points by end of Feb if we take advantage of the amount of home fixtures we have.

  18. 2 hours ago, Ethan said:

Totally agree we need this lad on a longer deal.

Caused every team problems we have came up against. Very few players can match his pace and his determination to keep the ball.
He has been a huge asset and adds something we have not had for quite sometime.

The assist last night was a great example of what he is capable of on his day.

Did we negotiate a sell on when selling him to Ross County? Seems seal done around £300,000 to Sunderland. I would hope we have a 50% sell on or at least 30% like meatball.

I think we did have some sort of sell on from what I remember. May not be huge, though they are selling him for around 10x what they paid us for him.

Could easily help pay towards a players wage till end of season

It's clear Flynn and Foley are not in the managers long-term plans. It's as if he wants to try and build a team that will lead into next season and both Flynn and Foley are not part of that plan.

I believe that if it were not for Flynns injury, he would have been in the starting lineup from the off, though as the manager tries to now build a team with pace and Flynn, who was covering a now occupied right back role, it would be difficult to bring him back in and expect it to click. I do however think he is a useful player to have in our squad for the remainder of the season.

If Foley goes this window, you would think Sheron should also be called back to Fleetwood too surely, unless we don't have a terminate of loan clause in place. He's almost the forgotten man.

I will eat my words. What a sensational performance last night. Did not look out of place after being out so long. I'd keep him in the starting lineup for Saturday.
