Here are some frendlies I remember that were played during a season and not pre-season ones
88/89 - Monday Night, possibly Sept - v Orlando Lions, this US soccer team were touring Scotland and we won 2-0 at Love Street, I think Winnie and Brian Hamilton may have scored
95ish v Hyundai Horang an 0-0 draw at Love Street on a Friday night, I remember the South Koreans were an excellent passing side.
95ish v Some Mob From Iceland - Another Friday night affair, we lost 1-0 with a penalty being scored by their Brazilian striker Jefferson!
Feb 99 v Hearts at Love St, a game arranged with both Hearts and Saints being out of the Scottish Cup, Hearts won 2-0
87/88 v Shrewsbury Town - Wasn't at the game, but we lost 2-1 I think, a Friday night game with us being out of the Scottish Cup.
2001/2 v Middlesbrough, The LDV Cup Final, think Middlesbrough won 2-0
87/88 away to Coventry - British Cup Final, the 2 winners of the 87 FA and Scottish Cup met up. it finished 1-1, the return leg was never played, so techinally Saints won on the away goals
We also had a friendly v Derby County for Shuggies testimonial whilst Bob Malcolm was with them. We had an Algerian on trial who looked very good. We went on to win 1-0 im sure and the Algerian went AWOL afterwards even though we were interested in signing him.

We sent Cornell and Caprice back to their parent clubs early.

Just found this http://m.allafrica.com/stories/201401100102.html/
Hes been ordered back to Scotland by french fa because they tried to send him to bastia on loan and he can't play for 3 teams in one season.

Skacel or ibrahim would be decent signings imo. No risk in a deal tilk end of season on skacel as I doubt he has been offered much atvalloa
-
To be fair to the lad hes probably done more being absent than gary harkins has done in 6 months.
-
Rory Fallon anyone?
-
The spelling police will be out soon...
-
Taiwo would be a good signing for us i reckon
All hibs players released will have been let go for either not been good enough, and/or high earners and/or not training hard enough. Taiwo has previous for attitude and vine is gash/wage thief.

He made such a big impression that Tam Scobbie gets picked ahead of him.
You could say Scobbie is rhyming slang for hos ability.

""We've got Celtic to come on Sunday against Celtic. They are the biggest club in the country and have down well in Europe recently, putting up a decent show against Barcelona."
Here's hoping Celtic don't pin that quote from Adam to their dressing room door to motivate them!
Its a good mind game by young adam. The Celic will be thinking they are unbeatable. ..then bang...the wee man scores the winner:)

We could write a book about every signing.
However I'll sum it up in a few words: The reason none of them are still here is because they're not good enough. Simple.
If they were good enough they'd still bet here. Danny Lennon signed 7 players in the summer and he's already decided 5 of them aren't good enough.
And some managers would be stubborn enough to ignore it. He has bitten the bullet and shownvthatvhe has admitted they were failures.
Agree with HSS, Harkins is definitely a talent.
-
Good question.
That's Cornell, Bahoken, Harkins (assuming this is true) Caprice and Dillon been punted already.
Out of the 7 players he signed in the summer only 2 of them are still here.
That's an absolutely remarkable wastage rate. I'm sure the BoD will take this into account when considering if Danny deserves a new contract or not.
Im not defending Lennon with the following, though it doesnt look good at all with the players mentioned.
Cornell - From what i believe both Cornell and Dilo were recommended by Mathers and Danny trusted this judgement. Early stages of Cornell showed it was too much of a risk signing him as a first choice goalie.
Bahoken - Absolute panic signing. I just cant bring myself to believe that we scouted him even though Danny talked him up to be a wonder signing. Couldn't have shown up well in training to not be given a better chance in the first team.
Harkins - I still honestly think that Danny and Tommy never seen a chance in hell that McGowan would stay hence the signing of Harkins. When Gowser re-signed we were left with two like for like players. I do think when he is not involved from the start that his work ethic looks very average.
Caprice - Absolutely no idea why we took the boy in on loan. Maybe it was a lack of signings, this boy came in as a cheap option as a squad player. Never really got a chance, though that maybe shows that he was maybe not cut out for this level.
Dillon - I seen Dillon as more of one of the Under 19 players with a push for the first team, and that possibly Longwell had a say on this signing. He has left due to homesickness.
-
Hes been pretty injury prone over last 2 years or so. Too big a risk imo plus we have goodwin to deputise if need be as well as lee mair when cslled upon.

Good post.
Edited...................best post of the year.
PS It's New Year in Australia.
Is it not new year in smokeyville yet?

One Danny Lennon!
-
Danny screwed it up today big time. Utterly shambolic and we the fans can see it. Why though cant the management see it. It was obvious the team were playing well and then he moves three players and puts vanzy in centre mid. Shocking and our inability to win a couple of games on the spin is becoming a joke. I know he won a cup but really apart from united the other day is he taking us anywhere. Do we have consistency do we beat teams we should at home. No we don't and I'm unsure Danny is going to be manager next term
We are sitting 8th in the league, 4 teams sit below us and we are now 8 games unbeaten at home.
One Danny Lennon!
-
The fact of the matter is Lennon will be back to managing in the lower leagues when he finally leaves us , the deluded nonsense that he will somehow be "in demand"for his managerial "talent" is hilarious .The amount of money he has wasted on players is shocking ,his tactics are debatable and it is only the shocking state of the scottish game that allows him to appear a better manager than he actually is .No new contract
You bore me to tears.
-
Apparently the new manager will be given a decent transfer budget for January. Mackay was told he was getting nowt and that he overspent in the summer.
-
Yeh I get that and reckon hes worth a fair amount in wages tbh, its whether our figure and his figure are alike. Like I say, I don't really keep track of the financial side of the club (though I like how we keep the books balanced)
Kello is the type of goalie who should be playing every week between the sticks and he is getting that right now in Paisley. He moves elsewhere at this time of year it could only be as a backup keeper.
He was without a club for a good part of this year, so I feel that witg security for at least another 6 months he should likely stay with us.
Completely moving off talk of Kello, does anyone else feel that tge boy Caprice is better off returning to Blackpool? He is clearly nowhere near pushing for a starting slot and Teale is due back soon.
-
There is no excuse for that sort of challenge. He wss rightly subbed. I defended him yesterday though after this viewing is quite hard to.
Saying that, there should be a compilation video made of the boy Ciftci for his style of challenging for a ball.

I can take or leave Michael McIntyre, but please, someone, in the name of the wee man... Can someone please stop Miranda Hart and Sarah Millican ever appearing on a television screen ever again, under any circumstances. Grrrrr.
