We are sitting 8th in the league, 4 teams sit below us and we are now 8 games unbeaten at home.
    One Danny Lennon!

    1) Newton is an all-action midfielder. He's been playing wide right for the last 6 weeks to cover an injury and is clearly less comfortable there, as a result he's suffered a bit, especially this week. He seems to be calling in two or three performances in preparation for going back down the road, if I'm honest, but he's been excellent overall. Campbell made his debut today and looked very pacy, very direct and like he'll be an asset. Newton also scored a fantastic winner for us in our first national cup win in 26 years, so will forever be a club legend in these parts, as will Dummett.
    2) Both are certainly good enough for us, as was Paul Dummett. Premier league though? Newton could certainly cut it in the Championship, if not the Premier league and I'd be reserving judgement on Campbell until he's fully fit.
    3) It's good, but it has the potential to be harmful. We pinned all of our hopes in the summer in Newcastle throwing us a bone in sending up Newton and Campbell. Newton came eventually, and Campbell went to Carlisle. By the time Newcastle finally made their choice, we'd already started our season and were left panic signing duds. The players they have sent though, are very much up to the job.
    4) It's undoubtedly a good level to develop young players. It's a midway point in terms of overall quality between Championship and league one. The sheer number of players who have gone to those leagues and been excellent (Dorrans, McCormack, McCarthy, McArthur, Bryson, Conway, Greer, O'Brien to name just a few) and players from L1 who have come up here and couldn't cut it are testament to that. The only difference is the League 1 wages far exceed the average SPL wage and it is mistakenly viewed as a better league. Even in our own side, we have 3 of our own young midfielders in McGinn, McLean and McGowan who would waltz into almost any Championship side. The league is littered with young talent and wasted talent who took the bright lights of playing south far too early in their careers.
    5) We're doing OK, the season got off to a pish start and from there we've recovered to a decent extent. The knives are away from the manger for the time being, there's little threat of a relegation dogfight and we're still in the Scottish cup.

Agreed. Danny deserves credit for cleaning up the mess he made, but he also deserves criticism for making the mess in the first place.
Harkins is a talent and has been his whole career. He failed with us for the same reason he failed everywhere outside the Scottish second tier:
He doesn't have the required fitness, attitude or work rate of a player at this level. He never has had and he never will have.

Some quite disappointing posts on this thread, particularly with the lack of respect shown towards DL.
Regardless of your views on his managerial abilities, and I have major doubts regarding those, he won us our first major honour in donkeys years, and has himself shown huge respect towards both the club's fans and the club itself. Also, he has given nothing less than 100% commitment to the club throughout his entire time with the club and has given us, on occasion, football which has been a joy to watch.
As I've already highlighted, in my opinion, he certainly has his limitations, so I think we'd all benefit from not having to trawl through posts by the usual bores pointing them out, yet again.

    Football was rubbish?
That's how our clubs reached the later stages of European competitions
Our International team played in the World Cup Finals every time they came around
If that's rubbish, what is it now?

5 points off the top 6...we right in the hunt providing we keep up decent form.
Did we not take 13 pts from 18 just a month ago, and if we win on Thursday its 7 from 9. Progress?
We are ticking along nicely. Yes today's result and performance wasn't ideal, but there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic for the second half of the season!

There is no excuse for that sort of challenge. He wss rightly subbed. I defended him yesterday though after this viewing is quite hard to.
Saying that, there should be a compilation video made of the boy Ciftci for his style of challenging for a ball.

We need this type of player. I used to think the spine of our team was powder puff.
Now we have the likes of Cheesy and McGregor at the back, Goodwin in the middle and Thommo up front. This allows the younger flair players to go and express themselves.
I remember the spine including the likes of Potter.

After his wonder show today, I wonder how long we can expect to hang onto John McGinn, a fantastic legacy from Gus Macpherson's reign?
Indeed, Naismith, Kelly & McGinn are all proving to wonderful legacies from Gus Macpherson's focus on youth.
    Well done Gus!

League cup winners (also beating one of the ugly sisters on the way to the final)
4 yes FOUR outstanding youngsters playing in the top league and playing brilliantly
a legend up front and a dynamic play maker playing just behind
top class goal keeper albeit on loan if not then another outstanding youngster in waiting
a captain i would NOT swap for anyone(we have been crying out for an Aber type player for YEARSSSSSSSS)
When the above does not click the whole package is massively disfunctional !!!!!!!
How can you blame the manager???????
we are not the complete package,
    we are not Barcelona
we are not scum from Glasgow
    we are not super wealthy
we do not have the devine right to win every week
what we do have is black and white blood whether we win or lose because thats what saints do
WINNING IS A BONUS with our budget
a least we will have a club to support every season

Tom Hendrie wasn't let down by the board, the board lived within their means and rewarded him a 5 year contract, a decision that they would later regret. Tom was so good he went on to be sacked by Alloa.
Gus McPherson had the same budget and was more successful in gaining promotion and keeping us in the top flight. However the standard of football was dire at times. Gus was so good he went on to be sacked by QOS
Danny has also had the same type of budget and won the cup and highest position in the league and tried to entertain with good football. The one advantage Danny has that the other managers didn't have is he is on a much more even playing field. The others had to compete with clubs that were living way out of their means and we were competing against International players that most SPL clubs had.
When it's all said and Danny is probably our best manager in the last 25 years, he has won a major trophy and guided us to our highest position in the league while trying to entertain the fans and also having an excellent relationship with them. The picture of him turning to watch the fans as the 3rd goal was being celebrated by us in the magical cup final will remain with me until I die and earn Danny legend status.
However he has lost his way a bit and the past doesn't guarantee the future, if he doesn't sort out our current shortage of squad options then he could lose his job just as the other managers did.
