kevo_smfc reacted to Sweeper07 in Rangers v St Mirren, Wed 22nd Jan 2020
NAW that is not our AIM. We are progressing every year and if we finish on better goal difference but the same points as any other team we pick up more prise money. If it happens to stop us being in the play-off, then that is better than having to be in the play-off... is that not simple enough for you?
So tell us about you top notch outlook - we could all do with a laugh
TRY reading previous post about how others have fared there this season . . . then re-read it and see if you can get it to stay in your head for more than a few milliseconds . .

It almost worked last night, but we never quite seen it through. The goal we lost was one of those ones, ricochet of the ball and in the back of the net.
I agree with how we set up was the right approach, though the only criticism if any i will give, is that we left it too late in the game to make the changes to put more forward thinking players on the park.
Rangers were expected on their first home game back from winter break to be on a high, though we frustrated them.
We move on and look forward to a more positive tactical approach in our next game as Goody made us aware of.

Exactly bud.
Home results for Sevco 2012 this season include:
5-0 v Hearts (who had 2 shots)
5-0 v Hamilton (3 shots)
5-0 v Aberdeen (4 shots)
6-1 v Hibs (6 shots)
Going down 1-0 meant we were in the game until the final whistle was blown. Better teams than us have been gubbed there, and many don’t exactly fire ten shots per game either. Some of our fans need to get a f**king grip.

In his post-match interview JG was clear that he had deliberately set up defensively to avoid losing a hatful of goals like a few other teams have done against Rangers and Celtic this season. In my view that makes sense. It's often been said previously that our fate won't be decided by games against Rangers and Celtic but by the games against the teams around us in the bottom six. So it's sensible to set up against Rangers and Celtic to protect our goal difference, as that is likely to be very important at the end of the season.
JG also made it clear in the interview that he wouldn't be setting the team up this way against other teams in the league. Seems a reasonable way of looking at things.
On to Aberdeen on Sunday and...….COYS!!

Should be a decent game. Aberdeen off the back of a defeat and now 4 behind Motherwell. The buddies off the back of a midweek defeat, though hoping to continue good home form.
2-1 saints

Oli Shaw is half decent, though I think he would be too high a risk of a signing to part with 6 figures. In total he has only had around a season and a halves worth of first team football at Hibs and that includes championship level.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see a player come in from overseas, with our scouting range we have in place now.

He was magnificent out wide vs Killie. With space to run, instead of holding the ball up to beat the last man, is where he seems more effective.

Yeah, we won't see anymore teams come to Paisley with 9 men in and around the box at every saints attack.
I'm confident however that the news boys will be ready and what better way to start with your league debut against one of the tougher opponents away from home.

Naturally the best finisher at the club. Has a little bit of a Ross Stewart feeling to it, far from the finished article - certainly has something about him.
Hope the striker that's coming in is impressive...

A wide player and a striker according to Goody in the 1877 tonight.

It's a nice position to be in and make a huge difference vs many previous windows (with the exception of the summer/2nd winter windows when Ross was in charge.)
If we can add further quality, then so be it, but it's not 100% essential and if we're better off saving the money to do PCAs/get even better players in the summer, then fine.

Seems like we have our eye on a couple of other players going by his interview. He said we are in no major panic to bring anyone else in though the one or two we are looking at would add quality to the squad and may be too good to pass up. Something along those lines.
