Seven goals from midfield for a team at the right end of the conference table.

We have, of course, signed a player called James from that level before, and it didn't go so well, but I trust the current management team to be able to spot a player.

True. Here's hoping it's more of a Lex Richardson outcome. Welcome to the Saints Jim and hope you have a great season.

No pun intended on the caravan thing, was just saying, things keep moving despite the manager situation.

I've 100% got no idea who it is.

In fairness, the fact that the Club is building for next season despite the uncertainty over who will be manager is very good news. Maybe we have adopted the Director of Football model? The situation we find ourselves in would seem to be an argument for it.

No manager is 100% committed if a bigger club comes calling.

Just as I would give up my job if I got a better offer.

You state this as if it were a fact of similar standing as the law of gravity. However, some people stay in a job because they enjoy it or feel a sense of belonging and purpose. Some people like to finish what they start.  Some people honour contracts and some don't. I appreciate that Jack seems to have insisted on an option to let him leave and that's fine - the St Mirren Board has acted in an honourable way letting him speak to Ipswich. I am equaĺly sure the Board didn't anticipate this turning into a potentially ongoing situation where Jack's head is turned  quite this often - assuming the Sunderland rumour is true.

The kind of animal,  as you put it,  that Jack Ross is.. Is a professional football manager who has just had three successful seasons, won promotion and awards. You are right,  he is the consummate PR person but,  hey we have lapped it up and had a great time.   As an individual he would be foolish not to seek to take advantage of the situation,  either to obtain pay rises or move to much, much better paid jobs. Each time he got a rise, the compensation we might receive went up.  The fan in me though dislikes the uncertainty, particularly it's timing. In that I totally agree.

And if you can't be with the one you love, Jack

    Love the one you're with.

It's a tough one. ideally, It sounds simple,  just say enough is enough. In practice it isn't. Jack is under contract and in that contract will have clauses which say that he can speak to potential suitors with the permission of the board and that this cannot unreasonably be withheld. The club could say no, Jack might do so anyway,  then what. No way back, loss of compensation and perhaps a judgement in JR's favour and us paying him money. Jack is a tough cookie.  That's one of the reasons he is successful.  As a player,  it isreported,  he walked out on a contract and refused to return. Mr Chairman. Over to you.

What contract did he walk out on as a player?

If this is indeed true then did our board once again give him permission?  If they, our board, want Jack to honour his contract then time they refused to allow him to speak to any interested club. All this is doing is unsettling the club at a critical time when we should be looking at preparing for the new season. Inevitably, Jack will court suitors but he is hired and under contract to St Mirren and they should be doing more to protect its prized asset.

Which is of course its supporters and not Jack Ross.

Dundee United and ST Mirren are trying to sign Clark according to the local Dundee paper.

I was going to fire in there and say "Exactly and what chance have we got as he would know who the manager is at United" Then I remembered it's Csaba ....

I agree... We tend to go about our signing business quietly.  I feel that there are signings on the way but to announce them would be unfair to Livvy and Thistle as they approach tonight and Sunday's play off games.  Our interest in Holt though looks to be an open secret.

As is our interest in Halkett and McGinn so no that quietly.

The club certainly are not doing hee haw in relation to potential signings.

The practicalities of that do intrigue me. How do we know these new "club" signings will fit in with the new managers plans and style of play? It's normally the new manager that would want to call the shots and be looking for a budget to bring his guys in. No? I am assuming you think we might have put out a few very tentative feelers rather than had any serious chats about money and contract length. The target signings would presumably want to know the identity of the new manager just in case he is a roaster which means the club's that can talk turkey right now might nab these guys before we can firm up? Not ideal but hopefully resolved very soon.

    Best of luck to him.

Always gave 100 per cent for us and for other teams he played for.

Was a bundle of trouble when he played against us.

I always disliked him which means he was probably pretty good. Good luck John.

This is getting silly now! Honestly, on Facebook and on here the psychotic and schizophrenic nature of the St Mirren support has never been more in evidence.

You get minute by minute posts. "I love Jack Ross", "I think he's going", "Why hasn't he left yet!", "He must be staying", "that bastard clearly wants to go", "Sack Jack Ross and move on".

The reality is that if Ipswich Town had made up their mind that they wanted Jack Ross they wouldn't be giving him a second interview and leaving him waiting in limbo. He'd have been presented to the media and fans as the new Ipswich manager and St Mirren would be starting the hunt for a new boss. Ross is clearly on their shortlist, but he's absolutely not a shoe in and the longer this goes on the more it looks like Ipswich are stalling waiting on someone else.

    Thanks Doctor.

Again, from a Ipswich perspective, I thought that as well. If he's had one interview, and is apparently set for another - perhaps it's now down to compensation for Ross and Fowler?

Or at least having that information in the mix when weighing up the cost of hiring Jack and James against the cost of bringing in the other front runner. Of course, if Saints ask for too much and that became the issue that  ruled Jack out ..... who would be a football Chairman?

He confirmed talks had taken place between the clubs but did not know more than that and he was continuing his work at Ralston in preparation for the season ahead. A good more incisive interview on buddievision just put up where he confirms the above and his continuing plans for this season.

I wonder if the "talks between the clubs" is a reference to discussion on the level of compensation due by ITFC to St Mirren given our understanding that Jack and James are under contract?
