  1. Indeed. If you look at the photo at the top of the Hospitality page on the Club's website (see link), you'll see at least one punter without a tie ... and a few in smart dresses ... if that's your thing. https://www.stmirren.com/commercial/matchday-events/corporate-hospitality
  2. Yep. He was probably the cause of two of the 4 goals against us that day, one was a screamer that would normally not go in and the other was allowed to happen because our captain was sauntering back, ball watching, while the Aberdeen scorer was sprinting forward into the gap to receive the pass. And didn't Stelios partly make up for his howlers that day by assisting our goal? OK, he did not help us by getting sent off against Dumbarton either but, without him we might not have started our come back against Falkirk in September (he scored the equaliser). Plus didn't he open the scoring against Morton when we beat them 4-1 last season? And would we have got all 3 points in our last game at home against Hibs last season when we started our glory run (he scored both goals)? Selective memories.
  3. To paraphrase Chumbawamba .... (We'll be singing, when we're winning) We get knocked down but we get up again. You're never gonna keep us down. .......... Taxi to the Premier League, please. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LODkVkpaVQA
  4. Slightly disappointed. 141 years of history*, yet the streets named after personalities only span an era of 45 years. Suppose it will look better mind you in another 50 years time. * OK, less if you take into account the Club moved to Love Street in 1894.
  5. Reviewed the GoPro footage (again ) from behind the goals - love it when Cammy Smith leaps over Liam Smith's shot on its way to the back of the net! Excellent!
  6. I thought, if Jack had gone to Barnsley, we still have a good team and a great support, enough to see us over the line and win this league. Obviously the team faltered yesterday (big time). It’s now up to us, the fans, to show our quality, not to falter and get behind the team next game. COYS!
  7. Me? I never said he was gone .... .... actually, I never said anything. I just hid in the cupboard ...... I found a Bounty Bar in there. It had a bite out of it ..... what? .... how? ... (It's bright out here )
  8. Yes, it was. Only issue I would disagree with is that I don't think their second was a "tad lucky." Our midfield, in particular, McGinn (Yes. I know. Captain Fantastic. Shockarooney), and to a lesser extent, McShane, switched off. They were jogging back, ball watching, while Christie and Rooney(?) sprinted away from them into the box as if they were expecting the cut back (GMS also cut the ball back from the by-line into the same position in the box a few times during the game so clearly a tactic - an elementary one, to be fair). This kind of thing has happened a few times during our league games. We really need to be more aware of and focused on opposition runs off the ball. Christie's awareness and mobility was also in evidence in their third. Signed - still gutted.
  9. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here and get our feet back on the ground first. We're obviously well placed but still work to be done.
  10. Whilst being complimentary about our play in the first two thirds, he didn't sound too impressed by our work in the final third at that stage in the game, bemoaning poor decision making and a lack of shots and inventiveness. Not sure how much that was down to us or Dumbarton's defending but was clearly sorted out in the second half. Wonder if he'll be passing on his observations to Aberdeen? Also very pleased to see Cammy Smith and Captain Fantastic on the score sheet again - both have been excellent lately - some more from the midfield will be very welcome (cue gauntlet thrown down at Magennis' and McShane's feet ....).
  11. Curry? You're thinking of Duffy. Maybe it's a paella! (Wasn't Tony in Spain last month?)
  12. Not bad! p.s. I assume that's pronounced Meerry Christmus? Their Middle Earth ones are good, too! I've also selected a NZ voice for my SatNav. When you go the wrong way he shouts at you, "Heh, Mate, where are you going!? "
  13. Weren't we bottom of the league last Christmas? To all of my fellow Buddies, have a great Christmas! COYS!
  14. Obviously, happy and relieved we got the 3 points today. Could have been 3-2 or any combination in between and 1-0 .... either way. Morgan had his flashes but MoTM for me was Smith (with Bairdy, Eckersley and McGinn also in with a good shout) so baffled when he came off when I thought Magennis was contributing far less. I like wee Gavin and would have loved it if he had scored against his old club. He puts in a great shift but really struggles with these high balls - should maybe get a pair of platform boots OR MAYBE THE REST OF THE TEAM SHOULD STOP PUNTIN HIGH BALLS UP TO HIM. Never mind, problem soon solved by replacing him with a shorter player .... yet somehow punting the high balls up to him as well still didn't seem to work ..... who would have thunk it?
  15. Whoah! Wait a minute. How reliable are these stats? According to the stats ..... Sun. 30 Jan 1994 : St Mirren 0 - 3 Dumbarton .... [they then ran over to Dumbarton that night? ] ...... Sun. 30 Jan 1994 : Dumbarton 3 - 3 St.Mirren Sat. 05 Feb 1994 : St Mirren 0 - 3 Dumbarton Then there's Sat. 30 Jan 1993 when we played each other 4 times, home and away, on the one day. Was that the day we had the Subbuteo league?
  16. Great pics! btw, is it true that after they scored, the Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale fans started singing, "Give us an L, give us an O " .............. but couldnae finish it before the ref blew for full-time .......... ?
  17. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZunVlSjWaY Our penalty: These views from another angle indicate Morgan's jersey was being pulled just outside the box, his momentum taking him into and going down inside the box. I can't see from this camera angle if the Morton player is still holding the jersey as their momentum carries them forward into the box. However, the referee appears to be better placed than this camera angle so presumably, his judgement was that the Morton player continued to impede Morgan in this manner when he was inside the box. Their penalty: Still no clear footage. Reilly incident: Appears from this angle that Reilly was unfairly tackled just outside the box so should have been a free kick for us and no diving booking for Reilly.
  18. Although I would have picked Sutton myself today, the reality is that notwithstanding John's respectable footballing career, he will be 34 next month, and so I would guess that Jack is looking to the future (hence putting on young Ross Stewart) and its nothing personal with big John.
  19. I added up the attendances in the other games in the division today using the figures published on the BBC's web site - 5558!
  20. Yesterday was an experiment that had to be tried out (at least, I’m hoping that’s the case). We had to give more of our fringe players some game time and find out how ready they are for stepping up into the first team, with some playing well and others …. well ….. Was happy to see wee Gavin score. Raith scored good goals. Good outing for big Ross Stewart - it let us get a better idea of what he can do. Young Ethan played well and showed some nice touches (but was he instructed to take no risks and only pass the ball sideways or back?). Not too unhappy either that we are out of this diddy cup. Bottom line is sometimes you've got take one step backwards to find a better way forward. Hopefully, Jack has learned a few lessons today. Glad the experiment is over. At least I hope it is because the method of play was depressingly reminiscent of the pre-Ross era - pretty passing football, slow build-up, most of the possession, not sure what to do next when we got near the opposition’s goals, then lose the game. Stelios was one of the only players who had any clue that you have to take risks, be more incisive and take players on, so it was no surprise he was our MOTM.
  21. Although at the game, having now watched the highlights, to my mind it was Reilly and not Buchanan who got the goal which, given the immense amount of work he put in throughout the game, makes him my MOTM.
  22. I like the Monaco and Borussia Dortmund tunnels, also the idea of showing the cup winning teams. I think some of the other ideas will be counter-productive and will not intimidate visiting clubs. In fact, I reckon it will rile them and make them more determined to show us up. It would certainly get my blood up.
  23. Thoroughly enjoyed today. Twenty quid well spent! Imbibing a few sherbets to soothe my hoarse throat. Of course, Morgan was brilliant and arguably his presence was pivotal for us (how might it all have worked out but for his contribution?). For me, among the many unsung heroes was Reilly - great shift and unlucky not to notch up another goal. Liam Smith had a couple of moments but overall a good game. One of the (many) things that has impressed me is the cover (and therefore, the competition) we have for so many places. Or am I just getting carried way?
  24. Jack has been a calamity for us in more than one match in the past and I would not have been sorry if he had moved on. But, today, I was thinking he's coming of age. Good on ye, son.
