  1. Second half got the fans behind the team without really feeling we would equalise. Baird had great game, cammy macpherson very good in second. Definitely signs of improvement seen today. If we could tighten that defence, especially at set pieces and got sharper up front we could definitely compete with bottom six. Only caveat that playing teams like hibs always sees a very open game unlike games against bottom teams- we physically lose out in those games
  2. Need to stop the rot at least. Looking for a performance like that against Celtic to show us that we can at least make a fist of keeping in touch with others over the next three months, otherwise back to championship to rebuild
  3. What an impressive start to 0K tenure. Came expecting carnage but some seeds of hope but left after witnessing one of our best performances in a long time. No failures tonight and whilst Celtic helped us out with a tepid display l am full of hope of a new dawn
  4. Am looking forward to 10,000 at home squeezed into a 7,000 seater stadium
  5. Whoever comes in now it's crucial players, officials and fans unite behind them to try and make a fist of this mess before any new manager is able to put their own stamp on the team in January window. Obviously a lot to do with what went on behind the scenes
  6. Regarding the back four, Baird was consistently good when paired with Davis and to a lesser extent Mackenzie. Both players coached, interacted and talked Baird through the game and immensely helped his confidence and play. This year he appears the best on show and is suffering from that lack of leadership. As others have pointed out the recruitment defensively has been Stubbs biggest problem and his immediate challenge to address though coaching
  7. I suspect kenny miller will do them a turn this season. Finishing has been their problem this and last season
  8. Pros and cons in all above scenarios. I suspect many of our home attendances would be up in a bigger league, particularly playing the likes of Dunfermline and Patrick. Wheth this would offset income of potentially three or four games against old firm l am not sure about. Unfortunately the harsh reality of Scott football and in many respects it's fatal flaw is the financial might of old firm, probably more so than their dominance of league and cups. I am increasingly happier with the pyramidal model we are establishing but do think that it would greatly benefit the game if a number of areas, particularly in central and eastern Scotland amalgamated local clubs to create more potential strong teams- look at Caley thistle since they merged
  9. Up to players and management to sort it out and at the very least get organised and play to best of their ability. Support will support a team that goes out there and gives it a go and will support a manager who demonstrates progress. Stubbs needs to show us that his signings are capable and that he can mould a team
  10. He's been told he is not going to allowed to spend today. Maybe a loan signing? That's what l have heard
  11. Maybe a loan or two. Have heard he will not be allowed to spend any more cash on signings
  12. Having had 24 hours to reflect on this performance l think my biggest disappointment is that there were a number of occasions when jack Ross teams turned in abysmal first halves which often featured zero attempts on goal. The difference tended to be he was able to garner something from them time and again on the second half, adjust his tactics to reflect the opposition and where we were struggling and generally get something out of the game. There was none of that yesterday. I can accept duff performances by players from time to time but the 'quality ' on display at present is really worrying. Players need to stand up and be counted, but most modern players don't think on their feet and are welded to tactical instructions
  13. Number of punters around me commented on the tactical set up. Coulson got left too often overrun by Livingston players as midfield too narrow and not supporting 'wing backs ' enough. That is the managers job to sort out. Baird came on and immediately improved the defence. Cannot see what Stubbs is seeing in training to justify some of his selections
  14. Did we register a single shot on target? I don't recall one
  15. That was rank. Last 16 months obviously a dream l had and we are back to the classic home scoreboard of St mirren 0 opposition at least 1. We look doomed to return to championship based on that performance and apart from coulson yet to be convinced that Stubbs signings are better than who we already had.
  16. You choose: inept tactic? Players do not understand tactics? All these players are just not good enough? No 9 waste of a jersey as are the two centre backs. Last season a distant memory and too much like previous three. Not a shot on target. Unless Stubbs is stevie Clarke in disguise we will be quickly back in championship
  17. O grades ended in 1990 as the standard grades started being introduced in 1988. I taught the final year of o grade modern studies in 1990 so that was probably the last year of arithmetic. Worst decision ever in Scottish education to drop it too.
  18. Question simply is whether he can do us a turn compared to who we have or can get and whether we can afford his wages. Are Aberdeen not also interested anyway?
  19. Heard today from reliable source who attended game that heaton was very good. Also king will be released from his contract and go back south
  20. Herald reporting Celtic have matched Aston Villa fee and salary-23,000 a week. Apparently straight choice for mcginn now.
  21. Fantastic day. Great result and atmosphere and a really enjoyable game. However, let's not get carried away. Dundee tore us apart at times and with better finishing would have pumped us. Thank god football isn't as simple as that. Stubbs clearly under no illusions form post match interview. We rode our luck today and got away with a lot of calls by referee... Baird for example handled ball twice. Couldn't fault the attitude of players but our manager surely could see the glaring problem in that second half where his midfield diamond required immediate surgery and an extra man as wave after wave of Dundee punts cut through it and put defence under pressure. Better teams will exploit this. Also l thought physically many players were struggling against a streetwise opposition. Mcginn, magennis, smith an willock looked at home in this league but others were easily pushed off ball. Nevertheless a great start and now looking forward to rest of season with lots of hope that as we develop we can avoid a relegation battle.
  22. Fantastic result, great tempo to game which really made a difference. Good range of goals and defence never threatened, plus we did enough to qualify. Hoping this is a reflection of the team having time to gel and get fitter. However, Dumbarton were very poor and our job was made easier by the two early goals forcing them to open up a bit. Also though I felt Ross Stewart had his best game for us and scored, still doesn't convince me. Ball often gets away from him and seems at times not in control of gangly body. I know he did well for Alloa but not sure he is a real solution at premiership level. Roll on next week to see how we build on this
  23. Ultimately it would be great for us if we are able to get hold of 33% of any transfer but as things stand, barring interest from down south, Celtic are the only ones bidding. Why should they pay more than they have to for a player? Why should hibs not hold out for more or calculate that it is worth keeping him this season unless their valuation is met? They owe us nothing. It concerns me that some are building too much store on getting a slice of the transfer as the be all of what we do in the next month.
