Did Danny Diver not actually score all 3 goals in that game? He went on to play for Morton, Albion Rovers, East Stirling, Stranraer, Arbroath, Alloa, Hamilton & Ayr as well as playing for clubs in Denmark and Belgium (according to Wikipedia). It also says that Diver's dispute with the Belgian club R.R.C. Tournaisien in the late 1980s in connection with player registration contributed to the later legal framework for the Bosman ruling. Fairly decent goalscoring record too.

IIRC, we tried to sign Alan McInally from Villa after that game? He couldn't get a game for them at the time I think. The deal was put on hold due to Villa injuries however. McInally duly went on a scoring spree and forced himself into the Scotland side and earned a move to Bayern Munich!

My favourite was against Caledonian at Telford Street (before they merged with Inverness Thistle and moved ground). Jimmy Bone was manager back then and Barry McLaughlin was playing as a striker pre season and scoring a few goals. As Caley were non league there was no restriction on alcohol being brought into the ground and it was a hot summer's day... You can just imagine... Anyway, we were 2-0 down and I think McLaughlin scored twice late on to get us a draw. The best bit was when a Caley striker was clean through on goal and a Saints fan in the crowd blew a whistle. The striker stopped in his tracks and the Saints defence got back to clear! Kenny McDowall, by then a coach, was despatched to go round to find the culprit and confiscate said whistle...

Sorry, its not the end of the story at all. If the guy had been straight and had attacked a regular bar that he had visited a number of times previously then we wouldn’t be classifying this as a heterosexual hate attack, would we? I note that Mhari Black was getting in on the act last night. She claims that this was a "total homophobic attack". We now find out today that the gunman may well have been gay himself. Typical of our MP to jump in without knowing all the facts... It seems to me that there were obviously a number of issues going on in the gunman's head. His sexuality, his religion, his family and friends, his culture, society's attitudes towards homosexuality, etc, etc. Personally, to use Owen Jones' viewpoint, I am neither gay nor religious... so I can't possibly understand the effect either would have on my mind. It seems to me that he was mentally ill.
