  1. From memory, I think that Hinchcliffe & O'Neil were both able to train at least once a week with their full time team mates during the week. Going back in time, I think that Doug Somner was also able to wangle time off to train during the day. Even further back, I'm sure that Bobby Reid trained with team mates during the day while working as a trainee solicitor. Even better examples would be Steve Clarke and Ian Cameron who were both able to train with their full time team mates on many days whilst they were students. I remember seeing Craig Hinchcliffe getting out his car at some game. Think he wasn't playing, not sure of the exact circumstances, but he had a top of the range sports car and a stunning wag type burd with him. Whatever he did for a living, he was obviously earning far more money than any of his full time team mates! Anyway, you are right of course, think it needs to be down to the individual circumstances. I think, again in time again, we considered signing Ken Eadie from Clydebank on more than one occasion but the manager didn't think it would work because he was part time. I don't know what Eadie's job was.... but he always seemed to score against us!
  2. I suppose some of that depends on indivual circumstances and the hours / days they work. Even if they are self employed or own their own business. Some people may work 'compressed hours' for example or shifts. It may well be that someone can arrange to train at least once a week during the day with their team mates. If a suitable arrangement can be agreed then, if the player is good enough, its something we should look at. It worked with Hinchcliffe & O'Neil.
  3. Why should that be a barrier to us? Craig Hinchcliffe and John O'Neill both did a job for us as part timers in the First Division as was. Going further back in time, Doug Somner was only part time when we paid £100,000 for him (the then 3rd highest transfer fee in Scottish football history) and finished as top scorer in the Premier League with 25 goals.
  4. Good players are the first priority! If he's a good player then I'll take him! Lets hope Hartley & Stubbs don't read thus forum mind you...
  5. Thick bigot on the verge of tears
  6. You think that the first these clubs will have heard of him will have been after scouring this forum? You really are stupid.
  7. A second admin? When was the first? The club was only formed in 2012 and have never been in admin as far as I'm aware.
  8. Kenny Miller and Kris Boyd were both fit last season, both have far better goalscoring records than Steven Thompson and both were playing with a side that was far better than ours will be next season. Yet they didn't score 15 goals in the Championship... To ask a 36 year old whose season has been blighted by injury to come back and score 15 goals next season is a big ask...
  9. Another good shout, albeit not with us.. Sadly. Fitzpatrick never really gave him a chance which I found odd at the time.
  10. Good shout, albeit never quite made it as a regular
  11. The orange order are the dregs of society and the people who are so outraged by them are usually also the dregs of society. Dregs versus dregs. They should cut Glasgow loose to form an independent country led by the SNP and leave the rest of us to get on with normality.
  12. We need to be careful as John Sutton's wages may be high. We don't want the club getting into debt and ending up in the brown (sauce) stuff...
  13. I don't think any right minded individual would want to be in the position of having anything to do with an organisation which owes its success to the exploitation of sectarianism and hatred.
  14. Correct, Liewell knows the truth. Celtic's business model is based on the exploitation of sectarianism. They need Rangers totally. Yet, as I mentioned above, Celtic fans say one thing but their reduced attendance at games tells another story...
  15. That's what they say... Yet their gates have fallen considerably without Rangers. The rest of the clubs' gates have been fine. Celtic rely on Rangers. Without Rangers there would be no meaning to Celtic and their gates would continue to fall and fall. Before the 1960s, Celtic rarely featured in the top 3 of average gates in Scottish football. They even ranked 7th one season. Hearts & Hibs regularly had higher average gates. I am without my stats at work but there is at least 1 season where Celtic weren't even one of the 2 best supported clubs in Glasgow... Celtic only emerged as permanent members of the top 2 best supported clubs at the start of the 9 in a row era and when they won the European Cup. Even then, their average gates were not huge. It was only the arrival of Fergus McCann and the big spending era that saw Celtic's gates go through the roof. Without their rivalry with Rangers, I have no doubt that Celtic would fall back to the position they were in prior to the 9 in a row era or worse.
  16. Exactly the point I was making! Although Frank McGarvey was a product of a decent scouting network... albeit in very different times. Barry Lavety is the only goalscoring striker I can think of in my lifetime.
  17. We need a goal scoring STRIKER ffs! Why does our youth system not produce any strikers?
  18. What possible difference does it make if Ian Murray works on transfers, re signings, etc over the phone from Paisley or wherever it is that he's on holiday? I remember reading that Rangers (now in liquidation) signed Paul Gascogne while Walter Smith was on holiday. The wonders of the telephone... You can even text, facetime, God knows what these days. Incredible
  19. Why has this been moved to "other football". This relates DIRECTLY to St. Mirren FC. St. Mirren's record of developing young players over the past decade with David Longwell and the Pro Youth system has been shocking. Utterly shocking. This is something we should be discussing rather than burying our heads in the sand and pretending that everything is okay.
  20. Your posts are all shite, you r one of the biggest trolls on here and I'm assuming 'pozbaird' is an alias. So what is your problem?
  21. I'd have made Steven Thompson manager now.
  22. I bet Murray will be delighted at the thought of a night chatting with a bunch of weirdos and loonies!
