St Mirren v Kilmarnock, Sat 9th May
lenziebud replied to faraway saint's topic in Matchday & Travel Club
Well it should surprise you because we have never done a Ross County in the past. We need to get Nlundalu and Gogic back and avoid any injury before play-off. We are talking here about a team who only a few weeks ago with another 5 minutes could have finished off Celtic for a second time at Hampden and who have matched Hearts all season. The club needs to galvanise and so do the support and stop spouting drivel. There is more than enough in the squad to win the play off match. Get over the line and rebuild for next season. Also maybe a good idea to stop trashing McLeish who is doing his utmost with what he has been given. The rookie stuff is lazy and easy but the problems are way deeper than Craig McLeish. In previous seasons we have been very fortunate with injury and have carried a fair share of luck at times. This season has been the opposite and show the level of achievement for the club in Robinson's time here -

If we don't bring in a emergency goalkeeper then what happens if you young lad gets injured against Livi. Fairly sure the club will bring in somebody ? -

Would be nice if people could lay off Mullen. Yes he got caught in possession against Celtic, he'll learn from it. Way to early to be trashing Mullen as he has hardly played for the club. -
St. Mirren v Aberdeen 4th April, 2026

Agree on Devaney, what a player he is. 18 years old and destined for the very top of the game. Got the lot for me. Best young midfield player i have seen for SMFC since John McGinn. Special mention for Donnelly and Campbell who have been excellent since getting their chance. Good to get Mandron and Ayunga back fit also gives us a much better threat up front. Though Nlundalu was decent also when he came and worked really hard. First half superb, second less so but got the job done. Gogic was immense yesterday. Best performance from him in a long time and back to his best. McLeish doing superb. If we keep these performances up we will be fine. -
VAR is the engame of fans, players, managers and media never accepting decisions and that referees are human. So we end up with the utter hell of VAR. Referees are the best they have ever been in terms of fitness and constant review of their decisions. The game is 1000 times faster and players way fitter than they were in the past so getting decisions pefect gets harder. TV reviews decision down to the last millimeter and last frame. Refs and assistants get 1 look. So if VAR is ever taken away and it won't be you just end up back at square one. I hate VAR personally and would love to bin it but the same old refs are biased, incompetent, better in the old days etc would just start again. Never ending

Sensible decision IMO. Think he has done well in his 2 games and seems the players are respecting him. Bit of a holding position till the summer and great opportunity for McLeish

I think the Falkirk win definitely has a bearing on it. I think there is enough in the squad to avoid play offs. Aberdeen game is massive as 3 points in that game and we can hopefully draw Dundee back in also. That being the case then its down to squad to do the business over the split fixtures. Hard to believe this team turned Motherwell over 4-1 and Celtic 3-1 at Hampden Still think there is more than enough even if we drop into play offs too stay up comfortably but would rather avoid. A lot of work needed in the summer and a big task for the new manager. No Livi next season !

Aye Docherty credentials have taken a bit of a nosedive but McInnes rated him so that is a plus for him. Not sure we need him to be honest. Young i think was someone that Robinson had on his radar for 2 seasons but I agree with you on him. Devaney is class. Campbell would have been a Robinson signing also ? IMO a good one once up to speed. Having said that Park was outstanding at Celtic. On Carl Robinson I feel his management career is mixed, no experience of Scottish football and I feel we should take our time if the options aren't right. Every appointment is a gamble but for a club like St Mirren its vital. Get it wrong and it Championship and potentially for quite a while.
-
I'm basing it on the fact that so far McLeish has demonstrated that he can get performances from the player. I thought we were decent against Rangers and deserved a draw. Won at Falkirk. Supposedly senior players have been very impressed by him. Docherty is hugely experienced assistant and did a decent job at Dundee as manager. Aberdeen were a basket case long before Docherty go there. Robinson not done a whole lot so far and has a huge task on his hands If the club is confident in McLeish then let him have the job till end of the season when better managers than Carl Robinson might be available. Park's recruitment at Rangers was poor and since Foyle left the role at SMFC it hasn't been great either. Have a feeling Stephen Robinson wasn't overly happy with him either. Even if we fall into the play off we are more than able to get through them with the squad we have
-
I agree I'd go with McLeish till the end of the season. Players rate him and in the 2 games he has had in charge he has done well. Docherty linked as assistant and I'd go for that although doing fine with the guys we have, do we need another voice ? No to Robinson from me. Park's recruitment of players seems to have dipped over the last few years, never mind a manager.

Aberdeen are panicking. There recruitment is a mess. I don't think anyone is saying Robinson is sh@t just that maybe he is struggling at bit this season and for both parties a fresh start might be best -

I think if you expand that at both ends you'll find we haven't been good. Its been a poor season and for me Robinson has been struggling for quite a while. At first i thought he would turn it round but its not happening even with new signings and O'Hara and Baccus back. I get your be careful what you wish for and i wasn't calling for him to be sacked or any of that nonsense but I think it might just be right for all concerned. -

We have been poor for most of the season and well before cup final. The recruitment has been poor and the Jan window recruits just not good enough. Devaney decent but cant do 90 mins. Injuries haven't helped but i think it may just be the right time for a change. Don't get me wrong Robbo has been brilliant for SMFC but all manager tend to have a time span. Lennon for me is everything Robbo is and more plus he has managed at top level and been successful. Other candidates out there look at Motherwell -

I agree. I'd have liked him to stay to the end of the season but I too think he was struggling. A bit like when he exited Motherwell. No idea why he signed Donnelly or Campbell. The 20 mins of Campbell i saw of him as a sub I thought he looked decent then he just disappears Depending on how the squad reacts we may avoid play off but I doubt it. With a decent 11 on the park though I think we have more than enough to win the play off over 2 legs. Then the appointment of the new manager is key. Get that wrong and we will go down next season. -

He is going to Aberdeen and asap. They are panicking. If he wanted the NI job he wouldn't even interview for the job. Might be best all round as he may just have done his time at St Mirren Maybe time for a fresh voice but the timing is horrendous -
John Jules getting injured may just be our saviour. Looked like a thigh injury which he has throughout his career. Not nice seeing player getting injured like that, especially reoccurring but Killie looked really poor after he went off Need to get O'Hara, Baccus back and allow Gogic back into the defence to try and shore things up with his reading of the game. Recruitment doesn't look great so far up front in the window. Devaney is a player though. Its up front where we need the talent and goals. What is going on with Campbell. Looked decent when he came on for his fleeting subs appearance and then hasn't been seen again. No idea why he was recruited or is it a case of 6 months to get him up and running with a view to next season. Similar to Olysanya and Scott. Though Scott has just thrown his career away

Fergie was the best manager ever and the legacy he left served the club for next decade. Robinson is 2nd IMO. Clunie had us 3rd in the league also.

both VAR decisions were correct. to any neutral observer that would be the case. Always amazes me how football fans try to find a different outcome and worst still, justify it Both teams were excellent yesterday and we just got done by a world class finish -
Couldn't agree more. Utter shambles from Chris Graham. Decent referee but can be erratic and prone to major howlers of which this was one. I never go after referees in general but this season we really have been on the end of some ridiculous decisions to the point where Robinson has eventually had to call it out. Robinson is one of the more intelligent coaches who doesn't get involved in the public slanging side of things with decisions but this season has been a step too far. Also how bad a decision was the penalty awarded by Nick Walsh last night at Dundee. Top referee but that decision is as bad as it gets
-
He delivered at Motherwell so much so that Hull signed him. He has lost his way and for me is drifting out the game slowly. Hopefully can find his old form again and get back to what he can be. Lawrence Shankland is an example for him but i have a feeling it won't happen

Agree on manager but he really struggled at Motherwell when he had a poor recruitment in close season and couldn't turn it round. Really hoping we can turn it round because Robinson has been excellent for St Mirren -

Reminding me of his time at Motherwell. The recruitment in the summer has been poor. The league is much stronger than the last few seasons. So we will be bottom six battling to stay out of bottom two. Hearts were never going to be down the bottom for long and with new manager were a stick on for me today. So no major issue losing today but overall this season has been poor and we need to turn it round in St J and RC matches or we are on a slippery slope. Not sure if it gets there that Robinson can turn it round. -
Billy Abercromby Has Passed Away

Really sad news. Poor man just couldn't get on top of alcohol. I really hate what it does to people's lives ! Met him a few times and always came across as really decent lad as was his wife Anne Marie. Great player and true St Mirren legend RIP Billy.
