Marcus Fraser is a surprise. If he'd been a top target then I'd imagine we'd have signed him earlier (he left County at the start of June).
I'm wondering if we've drawn a blank in finding a suitable left back and, with the season about to start, Fraser is plan B.
Young striker on loan the last bit of business?I think that's likely to be the case. Either way, I think with Tait performing well for Motherwell last season at LB we should be quite confident.
Fraser - McCarthy - Shaughnessy - Tait

It's all very well getting in decent defenders in but it's people to put the ball in the net that will get us 3 points a game .
It's all built upon a solid defence. We'll get another striker in to compete with Obika but the defence was the main concern.

Aye. So good he’s now playing for Derry City.
Those 2 goals aside, did he really do that much for us? Any time I saw him he looked decidedly average.
He scored four goals in about ten games. Brilliant player and had a huge impact when we were in a rough patch.

Nothing wrong with keeping up to date with former players.
This. Wish him all the best - cracking player for us.

Shaughnessy and Thorvaldsson?

Fitzpatrick is an out and out winger, rather than a left back.
Hadn't seen the previous post. Rob Nizet? https://www.canaries.co.uk/academy/U23-Team/Defender/rob-nizet/

I've heard Norwich mentioned by a few different people but no names.
Of course that points to Famewo but who knows?
Aidan Fitzpatrick's name has been bandied about.

Hearing Ludwig Francillette is back at the club on trial - likely to get a long term deal as he's been released by Newcastle.

DJC's powers of deduction have come up with striker Devante Cole. Released by Doncaster and formerly on loan at Motherwell.Decent player
There's certainly a good resemblance.
Nah, that isn't Devante Cole. Not sure who it is though. Wouldn't be too fussed on Hodson - would like to think we'd spend the budget on an out and out LB.
-
Gogic would be a good signing.
Everyone is aware of him being a hard tackler prone to the odd red card although most of the time he flies under the radar (of the referee at least) of being a dirty bastard. He is also a decent player and got a number of MOTM performances for Accies last season. We are going to miss a bit of bite in the middle of the pitch if Stephen McGinn leaves and Gogic could fill that gap.

Apparently we are interested in Pasulay Njie ex-Stoke ....
Someone has to be at it here. He hasn't had a club since 2016 and he's another striker.

Stelios isn't available. He signed for Bradford Park Avenue in the conference north.
I was in hospitality yesterday and ballsy enough with the drink, asked Goodwin directly whats going to happen and he confirmed we're going to be looking at free agents...he's concerned about lack of game time for them to be up to speed but he said we've been backed into a corner now so needs must.
I was under the impression that he signed for them as they're not "professional", allowing him to move to a professional club later and keep fit at the same time.

Let me be the first. Miles away from the standard required.
What makes you think that?
Excellent performer when we won the Championship.

Don’t think emergency loans are a thing in the prem mate
Didn't realise that. Hopefully JG can pull a few strings with his contacts in England, then.
-
I'm not sure how emergency loan deals work, but Hibs have David Gray, Steven Whittaker, Tom James, & Adam Jackson on the books - all capable of playing RB. Paul McGinn will most likely be their first choice for the rest of the season.

Alan huttons available to be fair
no offence to Stelios as he was a character but the only way I’d take him back is if he was a mascot 😂
I think he gets a lot more flak than he deserved. He never really let us down, and was also decent at Ross County. We could do a lot worse.
-
Stelios till the end of the season. I'll be shot down for this but I think he's the best that's realistically available.
BRING HIM HOME!

He is contracted with us until 2021, so he won't be getting away. It's a win win situation for us. He gets experience of playing at potentially a higher level than he would out on loan in Scotland and comes back to us a better player. If in the end Barnsley want him, then we demand a sizeable fee. As much as I want him to succeed, in the games I've seen him play in midfield for the first team, he hasn't exactly shone through like McGinn or Magennis.
Just now, aldo_j said:Nah.
He’s not ready to start in midfield for us and we’ve got him tied up for another 18 months.
I’d be surprised if he got anywhere close to their first team, Mallan couldn’t and look what he was doing for us before he left. They are clearly looking at this as a project.
Time will tell, although Barnsley's part of the deal will most likely be a low transfer clause that will allow them to buy him at what will be considerably below his actual value by the end of the season.
