  1. I agree. There was no fight or determination. On that display we are going to be taken to the cleaners when the league starts. There are clubs with street wise pros who will quickly work out our weaknesses. And it shows already that with a few injuries and suspensions we can't cope. That has to be built into a team over a season as you will never go a year with no injuries etc. For some reason St Mirren have never really been the same since leaving Love Street.
  2. Predictions mean absolutely nothing. I prefer hard facts. The facts so far are done well against non league opposition. Beaten by Dundee and a poor draw against Alloa. Jack Ross said is was not good enough and he is very disappointed. Also we have lost our best player. THOSE are the facts and that is the real world....not the dream of fanciful predictions.
  3. Maybe I never made myself clear. I still play football and I can tell you any team plays to win. Ask Jack Ross and he will tell you that next Saturday he will be going to Hibs to win. Yes if we do scrape a draw then that is good enough but we should not play for a draw as time and again the other team will score when you don't have enough time left to sort it. Then if Hibs score in the last minute when it's too late we go back into the dressing room and find that Raith have won 4-0 .
  4. Can you explain why ? I guarantee Raith will beat Ayr so that puts them above us if we get beat. Certainly if we draw then that will be good enough but we shouldn't rely on a draw. Let's say it's 1-1 with 20 mins to go ........how would you play it out ?
  5. My view on a draw is that first you should never play for a draw as it's too dangerous. We couldn't anyway as we can't rely on Ayr so we must win. Plus Hibs will be going for it as they won't be letting up at all. They will want to send their fans away on a high and also fringe players will want to prove themselves so these end of season games are often ones that players want to win. I think Raith will beat Ayr because Ayr are away now and Raith have hit good form. They will see all this in reverse ie Hibs beating us and they have the chance to escape. So I stick by my original post ie we MUST beat Hibs.
  6. It was looking good three hours ago and now it's looking bleak again. We simply need to beat Hibs and that's all. If we get beat and Raith beat Ayr then it's most likely we face Goodwin and that will be a massive test of minds.
  7. Yes did you also not know that next season St Mirren will play Kilmarnock in the play off for the SPL and they will WIN ......also after winning the Scottish Cup the following year they will be playing Everton in the Europa league and they will win that game as well. Do you not know these things ??
  8. I know what you mean when you reel off the stats but the team in the 60's had a special magic. They were unbeaten all season and amazingly exciting. People would hold their breath every time Adamson or Kane got the ball as they knew something special was about to happen. With Pinkerton on the wing he would dance round defenders and Billy Fulton would give a special display of ball skills before the second half began. He would play keepie uppie and do a back flip and then the ball would land on his neck and even other teams were amazed at the skill. Those were exciting times that I have never quite seen again even though your point is valid. Kane would regularly score goals of the caliber of Tommy Gemils famous European goal that people speak of. You know it was special when the team names are still cemented in your head 50 years later.
  9. The current team are not fit to wear this iconic strip. This was St Mirren in their hey day with amazing players like Gilshan, Adamson, Kane, Adamson, Fulton, Duffy, Pinkerton, Blair and many more. The only times I ever seen a net get burst was when Adamson did it TWICE in a season.
  10. Playing in front of 5000 fans ?? Do Brechin have 2600 ??
  11. I was talking about the actual name of the club. St Mirren was named after a Catholic Irish Priest and that is well known. I seen on another football history website that the four clubs I mentioned had the Irish connection. St Mirren's connection being the name. You can't get a better connection than to be named after one of the most famous Irish Monks that ever lived. Paisley has the proud history of having many areas named after the monk. I also mentioned that when I was aged about 6 I was taken to Love Street and that is where I heard the song Molly Malone being sung every week. I assumed there was another connection there. It's not a problem by the way and it's amazing how many people on here have jumped at the thought of an Irish connection with the club. It's simply a historical fact that the club had the connection in the name.
  12. Why would you say that ? It was one of St Mirren's most popular songs. Are you denying that ? Don't tell me that you would deny that St Mirren were founded on Irish Catholic. They were one of the handfull that have their roots in Dublin along with Celtic, Hibernian and Dundee United.Named after the famous Irish Monk St Mirin. There's no harm in knowing how and why the club began roots. You seem to be saying that a person would get his head kicked in for what reason ???? Please explain.
  13. I think they should bring back Molly Malone .....that was always the top song St Mirren fans sung in the 60's and 70's .....it started slow then built up and everyone went crazy on the chorus. It's a top song and also Feed The Blair was another massive one amongst the fans ....obviously the name could be changed and anytime the fans sang that then the other players would actually pass to big Jim and nine out of ten times it would result in a goal. Now THAT was fan power. Compared with the pretty tame songs now those songs were absolute class.
  14. Yes you are spot on ............. It's why firms are finding themselves in court as they have been breaking the law for years. Let me explain quickly ....if you are a so called "freelancer" / "self employed" "now and again " or ''as required" employee .... basically there is no such thing. You are an EMPLOYEE and the people employing you are liable for your contributions, pension and holiday pay, insurance etc.... WHY you may ask ?? Because of the fact you cannot go and play for six other clubs at the same time (then you WOULD be freelance) It's like the taxi drivers ....because they cannot drive for ten other firms they are "tied" to the one company even if that company only uses them one a week. The whole law is now becoming very clear. Self Employed is you and YOU alone !! The moment you are under the umbrella of a firm of plumbers or whatever then you are an EMPLOYEE and they must pay you a living wage and they must be responsible for ALL I mentioned above. There is going to be massive repercussions in the world of work and it is beginning to now erupt in a big way.
  15. What you have said is the whole basis of the latest circumstances in employment law that's been in the news now for the last few weeks. It's why firms are finding themselves in court as they have been breaking the law for years. Let me explain quickly ....if you are a so called "freelancer" / "self employed" "now and again " or ''as required" employee .... basically there is no such thing. 16. Imagine your sentence with the work PARKING taken out !!!
  17. Yes sadly many clubs are like that apart from Celtic. They have just said tonight they made almost 70 million. There is a lot wrong with Scottish Football. I saw a programme recently about part time footballers. The standard is high as many choose to be part time as they have really good jobs. Some were earning around £70,000 so it would make no sense being a full time player. But they keep a high level of fitness and full time football isn't all it's cracked up to be.
  18. Yes we can live in hope but Ayr have also stregthened their team too. It will be a battle and even so there will be another battle afterwards with second bottom having to get through TWO play off games to survive. And for what ? I think there is more to addressed than the survival. We are a selling club and seem to depend on either loanees or youngsters. Anyone with prospects gets shipped out. Getting that balance is something that I don't think Ross is suitable for. And I have a feeling more besides is going on. Changing captain, leaving established players out and rock bottom esteem. I can imagine that right now some players are weighing up their options for the future and maybe one reason for lack of commitment is that you don't want to injure yourself and throw your future in jeopardy. These guys have bills to pay like anyone else. There is a lot going on contributing to all of this.
  19. If that was the case it would be DISGUSTING !!! People should be asking for their subscription back. To think they would change suddenly for cash is a ridiculous suggestion. Think where that money would be coming from ........
  20. It's unbelievable that people on here are thinking we can suddenly have loads of wins and loads of draws coming up .....ON WHAT BASIS ??? We have won TWO games all season and we are now at the back end. We have almost NO league games for a month and Ayr have the chance of stretching their lead before we meet them again. Then we have a month in March of really tough games and also a backlog will be building. Raith have FOUR league games before we meet Ayr. These teams will be out of sight and even if we did win say 17 points more that will still not be enough. That puts us on 31 but Raith and Dumbarton are only SIX away from that now !!! And Ayr are just TEN away. Are you saying Ayr can't win 10 points or that Raith and Dumbarton cannot win 6 more points ??? Don't be ridiculous. People on here are in denial. We won't even win 17 points ....why would we ? We only managed 14 so far with two thirds of the league done. FACE IT !!!
  21. You say a good February ???? We don't have any league games in February !! apart from at the very end. There will be a pile up of fixtures and the gap will be bigger so I hope the players will be ready in their HEADS to think they can catch up. But the thing is March is full of very hard fixtures and then by April it may all be too late. The only team we can catch is Ayr and then two tough play offs face us. We won't win 7 games. We have only won TWO and are now at the back end of the season.
  22. Ha I agree there was probably more dents in them invalid cars and in fact Kane once knocked a bottle of pee out a guys hand just as he was pouring it from his wee car. While I may agree partly with you ........ there is no denying the spirit and the commitment and FIGHT that those players had. As you said yourself Kane's shots were unstoppable !! They were top class in the day especially the time we beat Rangers in the fog and it was Hugh Gilshan scoring a brilliant goal. That spirit must prevail today in Dumbarton.
  23. Yes that would be the ideal way but the only way we can stay up now is to catch Ayr (we cannot now catch any of the other teams) and then win the play off which in my opinion would be against Alloa. And you know what will happen in that game !! ..............I stick by my calculations and it's a proven theory that 26 points takes you down automatically. Dumbarton are only ONE win or a couple of draws from that so Ayr is the ONLY option. You say aim for the Premiership next season ??? There is NO chance of that happening whatsoever. I have supported this club since the early 60's when we had some fantastic players ....Kane, Adamson and Pinkerton etc and any of those at a sniff would score. Now I am seeing St Mirren (sorry to say) as an average !st Division club part time. It's hard to accept but sometimes in life you need a reality check.
  24. It may be much harder than you think to get out of this mess. People think 3 points tomorrow will be a great thing and certainly it will be a start but do you realise if St Mirren were to draw every game remaining they would be down !! If they win a third of games remaining they will still be down !! People are only seeing the 7 points gap but Ayr will be gaining a few more points still. Usually around 26 points takes you down each year. At the moment we have ELEVEN. But for me the worst thing is that soon we don't have hardly any league games for a while with cancellations and New Saints and other cup games. So Ayr can really open up a big gap. Then we will have maybe too many games too close. I honestly believe that the owners would be happy with us in Div One. Think about it. We will have half a million in the bank. Still have the subscription money and have a slashed wage bill as we most likely will be part time. And the "faithful" 2500 will still turn up. It's only a suggestion but it actually makes more sense economically to go down. We need to face facts.
