I think I heard that Chris Sutton was banned from Ibrox when he was due to go there recently as part of a Sky or BT team to commentate. Now I quite accept that Chris Sutton has said a few things in the past that really are pretty basic and biased opinions, but probably fall some way short of what our Chairman said. So do we now have to assume that John Needham is unlikely to be welcome anywhere near Ibrox? If so that puts him in a rather invidious position as we play them at least twice a season at their home ground. That having been said many of their fans have said and sung pretty unsavoury words about St Mirren (and other clubs) in the past, so should they not get banned also?

That corner had mixed memories for me. It was where I usually met my long-term girl friend, but when we had our off moments throughout my formative school years, there were other girls who caught the eye, and needless to say Burtons Corner was the agreed meeting place. I got 'stood up' on more than one occasion

"let he who is without sin cast the first stone." This of course is a suggestion to not criticize others when you personally are not perfect! I'm not suggesting that what he wrote is either correct, or for that matter appropriate, especially for a figurehead of our club, but in this 'woke' society of ours, it takes very little for the media, or a group of 'perfect' individuals to bay for blood. All this suggests to me that maybe society is changing. Are we in the process of becoming much more conservative in our beliefs, but at the same time much more precious in our apparent acceptance of what you say, do or watch? However there are a lot of hypocrites out there In saying that I think there are far too many people who don't engage their brains before they rant into twitter, facebook or some other media and they (and he) need to learn that if you haven't anything appropriate to say, don't rant, just because you can!

A great early photo of the La Scala just after it has been refurbished (if I'm right from the info on the poster). The film that everyone is queuing for is "Show Boat" from 1936 so just pre-war. Just next door was Marks & Sparks and again the influence of the times (probably 1930's) is evident in the architecture.

I've said it in the past, it pays to look up sometimes at Paisley's great buildings.................... albeit, you may well be focussed on what the inside has to offer as an alternative! It was erected around 1901 and the Arts & Crafts influence is obvious on the upper parts of the building as well as the great pub on the GF.

Dire ground conditions, but to be fair to both sides neither seemed overly bothered by it! It certainly showed why we should have underground electric blankets!

I remember Ian as being a good full back. I think he also played golf down at Erskine and may well have played for their club team, certainly I remember bumping into him on the golf course at some point!

There is no doubt that both Saints and others see the potential he has and he will soon become the centre of interest from a much wider field. Watching him on Saturday showed that he is not afraid to tackle, has a lot of talent and enthusiasm. Saints are a good team for him to learn as he would get lost in an Old Firm environment, can you image either of them fielding a graduate 16 year old in the first team? It will be interesting to watch him develop over the next year or two.

It's an interesting post detailing Matt Miller's debut............................😞 However maybe I was slightly remiss in commenting on Ryan Flynn's re-signing in the wrong section, but some seem to have taken that diversification to extremes. You can now add into this mix the ruling by the SNP / Green alliance that you now have to provide a 2 jab certificate to gain entry. .................... I wait with bated breath to see how that is going to pan out with our relative attendances and staff input.

Extending RF's contract was a bit of a no-brainer. JG obviously appreciates certain qualities he brings to the Club, and whilst he may not be the 1st choice on the team sheet he is better by far comparing him with some player he hasn't got and would have to find. He adds a layer of quality that would probably be hard to find, and easier to re-new that contract than trying to replace him. Perhaps "better with the devil you know............." 😈

As I have posted elsewhere on this player: Hopefully he lives up to the comments made by JG and he does bring some width, speed and crossing abilities to the team as they are badly needed from what I have seen so far this year.. Welcome to Saints and if you just want to see what playing for Saints might do for you just have a wee peek at the current Scottish team and squad and see how many players (never mind the manager) have had a direct involvement with the club and also see that we can also sign players that gain a new cap for their country by playing well for us. Welcome to Paisley from the far-flung shores of Oz.

That looks bloody good compared to the last 25 years, and I will give 👍 to the Council for once for coming up with the money and the proposal to refurbish it. (of course nothing to do with the finance convenor skipping across it daily to go and see her granny😜 back in the day!). On a separate entry Schull suggested he was going head down there with his fishing rod, what would you expect to catch down there fairly close to the estuarial waters Schull? I know there is the odd salmon passing through, but what else might you get down there?

I think this is the pedestrian bridge that crossed the Cart as you made your way to Love St. off Abercorn St. It was handy to walk down through there either from the bus stop at the cross or finding somewhere to park the car when there was a reasonable crowd at the ground.

I remember this shop Menzies quite well. Before the days of supermarkets it was one of the better food stores in town. They used to have these very heavy delivery bikes that had a big holding space in the front for delivering boxes of food to customers. No gears on the bikes in these days, so must have been hellish trying to go uphill in one! 😅 Inside they had one of these meat carving machines which they could adjust, varying the thickness of the cut of gammon or bacon. Sawdust on the floors and marble worktops if I remember correctly. Of course they didn't stand a chance once Argyll Stores or Coopers Fine Fayre came along, but it had its day in the 50's and 60's.

If you commit suicide in an Old Firm game by getting sent off early in the game you have seriously let both the Manager and your team mates down 😞

Whilst chances were created yesterday, our age old problems still surfaced. We are in much the same place as the Perth fakes in that they don't have the money (like us) to splash out on a real striker who could regularly contribute 12+ league goals in a season. Watching yesterday's game was like deja vu or maybe Groundhog Day in that we managed to squander chances that others would take (e.g. Hibs against Livi). Whilst I won't disagree that we are in a group in the lower half that can't be separated by much, that surely points to a struggle again for the remainder of the season. A single point here and there will only inevitably lead to pressure later in the season. We desperately need at least one , if not two players that can get to the bye line and cut the ball back.

In fact I have found a little more about Mr Sawers from the entries in the Paisley Directory and general advertiser of that era: "Sawers, Joseph, carver and gilder, 40 High street; tel. No. 52 y1 — house 54 do." It appears as though he was born in 1839 and died in 1910. At some time he also worked from 63 High Street and also the company was known as Joseph Sawers and Son. However there is information out there suggesting his son was a "writer"; "Sawers, Joseph, jun., writer, of Young & Martin — ho. 54 High st." IT'S AMAZING WHAT YOU CAN FIND OUT THERE ON THE WEB! - The world will no doubt be able to catch us all in detail in time to come.

Then and Now Quite a few years ago I bought a job lot of pictures and paintings from an auction house up in Glasgow just to fill walls. One of the pictures was an old photograph in black & white of nothing I could recognise as it was a scene in the countryside of some trees, but it was a good photo of its time and was sharp and quite scenic. I have recently moved house and needless to say all paintings and pictures were removed from the old house and then assessed by she who knows best about these things before being put up in the new house. On the back of this photo was a label from (presumably) 4th March 1907 with the details of the framer etc for 40 High Street Paisley. What's interesting is the telephone number. I had no idea such short numbers ever existed. It must have been the early days of Paisley having a phone system? Can anyone add anything to this detail? The second photo is a screenshot of 40 High Street today on the extreme left of the photo. I think I know which trade I prefer and might make more use of!

Yes as my moniker suggests it was the team that inspired me to become a Saint's supporter. Sad to see him go, but I do remember him as a good integral part of a good team. 😢

The other little matter with McAllister is that when he came back to Saints, he had to be well managed in terms of the amount of time on the park. We did that well, but I think there might be a slight lingering feeling that you might not get a full 90 minutes a game for a full season out of him. I like him as a player and when in full flow he is a handful with a good shot and a great dead ball speciality. If push comes to shove, I would keep him and see if you can get a good season out of him around the No. 10 positioning as said above.
